We're
Each year, our team is honored to support the wellbeing, connection, and joy of families across the region—and this guide reflects the many ways we strive to deliver exceptional recreation opportunities to our community.
Our parks and green spaces are truly the heart of Dickinson. With more than 2,700 acres of parkland, 29 developed parks, and miles of scenic trails, Dickinson Parks & Recreation continues to provide some of the most beautiful and accessible outdoor amenities in western North Dakota. Whether you’re exploring a new sport or program, enjoying fresh air at Heroes Park, fishing at Turtle Park, or trekking the stunning Crooked Crane Trail, we invite you to make this season filled with movement, mindfulness, and memorable moments.
We’re excited to once again offer dozens of programs designed to engage the youngest learners all the way to our most seasoned community members. From youth sports and creative classes like Tiny Sports and Little Artists, to friendly competition through pickleball

nights and adult leagues, our activities continue to foster growth, confidence, and camaraderie—serving as an essential part of our mission to create “endless possibilities” for recreation in Dickinson.
I want to extend my sincere gratitude to our dedicated staff, community partners, and volunteers who help bring these opportunities to life. Most of all, thank you to our residents—your enthusiasm, involvement, and support inspire us every day.
As you turn the pages of this guide, I hope you’ll discover new ways to explore, play, and grow. Let’s make Summer 2026 a season to connect, recharge, and celebrate all that makes Dickinson such a remarkable place to live.

44. WESTEND PARK

The goal of this project was to bring the first community orchard to the City of Dickinson to promote fruit production in North Dakota by educating the community on the wide variety of fruits and berries that are hardy enough to survive the winters in SW North Dakota. The orchard utilizes a previously undeveloped park property in the Nuhaven subdivision. Our first planting in May 2025 consists of 46 trees with many varieties of apple, cherry, pear, and plum trees provided by a generous donation from TJ Herauf (Coca-Cola of Dickinson). Additional supplies were provided by a North Dakota Forest Service Community Family Forest Grant. Berry rows will be added in the spring of 2026. When the fruit is ready for harvest in late summer, access to the orchard will be available by appointment. The Park District will be looking for volunteers to help with pruning, watering, and harvesting in the coming years.
You can reserve picnic shelters at Lions Park, Eagles Park, Jaycee Park, Turtle Park, Rocky Butte Park, Gress Softball Complex, or the old Archery Range for your group gatherings. To book, contact Dickinson Parks & Recreation at 456-2074 or visit dickinsonparks.org/parks-and-trails. Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance and cannot be scheduled more than 365 days ahead.
A nonrefundable fee of $55.00 per shelter is required for all parks except Eagles Park and Lions Park, which requires a nonrefundable fee of $60.00 per shelter. Payment must be made at time of reservation. This may be done during regular office hours.

The Crooked Crane Trail, established in 1999, is a multi-surface trail that winds around the Patterson Lake Recreation Area, which is owned and operated by the Dickinson Parks and Recreation District. The Stranski segment of the trail extends through the northwest portion of the recreation area, connecting the Nyoda (Trap Club) Trailhead to the Stranski Trailhead. The goal of this project was to construct a permanent and sustainable 4-foot-wide natural surface trail suitable for both hikers and cyclists along this 1.3-mile section. Two new loops were added, incorporating a variety of cycling features such as tabletops, rollers, and small berm turns, increasing the total trail distance to 2.37 miles. Additionally, culverts were installed at four drainage crossings to improve water management. As part of the overall project, the Nyoda (Trap Club) Trailhead was expanded and upgraded in conjunction with the construction of the new trap club facility. Funding for the project was provided through a Recreational Trails Program (RTP) grant, with matching contributions from Marathon Petroleum and material donations from Stark County.
