Spring in Charlotte is my favorite time of year. I’m always excited to see the first blooms of crocuses, forsythia, redbud, and see the streets lined with magnificent Bradford pears. Soon after, the crepe myrtles bathe entire neighborhoods in splashes of color. I hope you enjoy our new Spring issue of DM Style magazine. In it, we highlight the towns of Weddington and Waxhaw, where the lifestyle is more relaxed, yet it is close to top quality restaurants and other amenities. Recently, we introduced our new video series, CLT in 3. Read about the videos, which explore area venues and goings-on in short, 3-minute bites. And don’t miss our interview with Jordan Siragusa, local elementary school teacher, Ellen Show guest, and our amazing client. Please feel free to reach out to one of our experts for more information about Charlotte and our wonderful community.

A Classroom Built on Kindness & Dreams by Lindsay Hotmire

O

ne year ago, Montclaire Elementary School teacher and Dickens Mitchener client, Jordan Siragusa got the surprise

of her life. For more than a decade, she’d been trying

to earn a seat to The Ellen Show. She’d written letters, made phone calls, and crossed every finger she could count. Hoping her luck would finally strike gold during a visit to California in early 2018, Jordan got as close as she could to the set of the show. But luck wasn’t on her side and she returned home empty-handed, convinced that her quest to find tickets just might drag on for the rest of her life. The Ellen Show, however, had different plans for Jordan. When she returned home to North Carolina, Jordan went back to business as usual, until the phone rang. The Ellen Show had received her letters, and they must have read every last word because instead of tell-

“She made me feel smart, capable, and like I was like everyone else,” says Jordan. “She inspired me to be the best version of myself, and I knew I wanted to be just like her.” Step just a few feet inside Jordan’s classroom, and there’s no doubt: Mrs. Pendley would be proud.

HER STUDENTS ARE CHANGING THE WORLD “I’ve only ever worked in Title One schools,” she says. “I’m at Montclaire because I wouldn’t be who I am today without all the people who rallied behind me to make me feel successful. I want to inspire my students to love learning and love school. I want to encourage them to better themselves and treat others the way they want to be treated. I want to inspire them to be good people.” When it comes to Title One schools, everyone knows the stories: high rates of poverty, at-risk students, cashstrapped districts. But it’s the stories that aren’t told, says Jordan, that need to be heard. These are the stories that will change the world, and they’re unfolding inside the walls of Jordan Siragusa’s classroom.

DESIGNER TRENDS :

Steven Rasnick Interior Design

TODAY’S RESIDENTIAL INTERIORS ARE INCREASINGLY MORE TAILORED, EDITED, AND FREE OF CLUTTER. Yet a home that veers toward the sparse, need not be Spartan, sterile or minimal in effect or essence. A thoughtful, layered and well-curated mix of art, textiles, objects and accessories can warm and soften a space; yield sensuous comfort and luxury; and define and establish the personality and charm of a room. The reemergence of Old World crafts and artisanal goods is providing a rich source of inspiration for today’s home interiors. Many ancient motifs and icons from globally diverse ethnic and tribal designs are being beautifully infused in a wide range of contemporary artwork, fabrics, rugs, pottery, lighting, and accent furniture. Organic in form and timeless in simplicity and restraint, present-day tweaks of multi-cultural designs in color, shape, scale and technique are resulting in fresh and compelling interpretations and new applications. All blending seamlessly and naturally to both compliment and enhance any residential style or preference.

W

e at Dickens Mitchener are so grateful to live and work in this beautiful city! Whether you, your friends or your family are moving

to or from Charlotte, we can open the right doors for you to make your transition a pleasant one. Referrals are the best compliment a RealtorÂŽ can receive, so if you have friends, family or colleagues looking to buy or sell, please suggest they reach out to your preferred Dickens Mitchener real estate expert. We will ensure they receive the same excellent service you did!

We want you to be our client for life, and we take the challenge of earning your trust and loyalty completely to

heart.

Far more than business, it is a personal matter to us whether you are merely satisfied or absolutely delighted with our services. And so, more than an agent, we offer a highly

experienced team. More than their experience, we dedicate hours upon hours of hard work. More than such

diligence, we add original ideas and remarkable touches that excite you about buying or selling a home. And finally, more than all our efforts, we give you our sincere

appreciation for choosing our way.
