It’s almost Spring on the calendar, but in real estate the Spring Market has been going strong for over a month. DICKENS MITCHENER ANNOUNCES AN EXCITING PROGRAM TO BEGIN IN 2020 TO HELP THE HOMELESS. Kathy Izard, author of “The Hundred Story Home” and “A Good Night for Mr. Coleman” spoke at the annual Dickens Mitchener Awards Breakfast and shared her story and passion to help rectify homelessness in the community. Kathy kept hearing a Whisper that encouraged her to take action and Moore Place was born. Housing the chronically homeless and getting vulnerable neighbors off the streets. Vicky Mitchener, owner and founder of Dickens Mitchener, also had a whisper that she couldn’t ignore, and contacted the one person she knew that could help her on her way. Vicky just knew there had to be something the real estate community could do to help the homeless population.

Mitchener had a vision from her early days on the board of the Women’s Impact Fund. She remembered that in the beginning days of that organization, they could pull together and get big things done collectively. This experience helped to found the Homeowners Impact Fund. The foundation of the organization will be this: During every real estate closing, Dickens Mitchener agents' will ask the key participants to donate at least $10.00 in celebration of the home closing. This would raise $85,000 annually just from Dickens Mitchener agents closings. Dickens Mitchener plans to create a foundation and then expand this concept to other real estate firms in the area. The numbers will be staggering with the support of other real estate companies joining the efforts and will make a tremendous impact on our local community. The funds will be allocated to established organizations in our area that know how to help subsidize rent to make existing housing more affordable to families and individuals. In addition, the fund will assist with case management and support services to ensure households don’t just move home, but remain home, by working through underlying issues that may have led to homelessness. The goal is to end homelessness in our Charlotte community. In 2020, Dickens Mitchener has allocated the funds to predominately go to Urban Ministries and Charlotte Family Housing. Charlie Burgess is a native Charlottean. She went on to earn degrees in Strategic Communication and Fashion Merchandising at Miami of Ohio. FOXCROFT

Nestled between Sharon Lane and Fairview Road just below Myers Park, the neighborhood of Foxcroft is known for its winding, tree-lined streets, sprawling manicured lots and large, stately homes. Conveniently located just moments from the shopping and dining options of SouthPark Mall and Phillips Place, this upscale community offers its residents the perfect blend of in-town convenience, suburban serenity and overall quality of life, making it easily one of Charlotte’s most coveted neighborhoods. The Foxcroft neighborhood was first developed as an upscale residential subdivision in the 1940s, and in the years since, many of the original historic homes have been updated while retaining their original stately charm. SouthPark Mall was built along the western edge of Foxcroft in 1970, bringing with it a surge of popularity as an alternative to driving uptown. Today, the SouthPark area not only hosts the largest shopping district in Charlotte, but also a bustling business/residential community. Even so, Foxcroft’s Homeowners Association continues to preserve the neighborhood’s tradition as a quiet family neighborhood. Foxcroft is partially located within SouthPark and it’s also just a few miles south of Uptown Charlotte, where you’ll find a variety or restaurants, entertainment and major event venues for concerts and sports.
