The Stars Residential College in Short/Denney
Hall is a living and learning community for students, faculty, and staff with a shared passion for
“living the arts.” You are the next generation of artists, communicators, and scholars who will provide leadership in your chosen fields. The college is comprised of the Departments of Art, Communication, Mass Communication and Theatre, Music and Writing, as well as the Reynolds Performance Hall. The many disciplines within the college share a dedication to both rigorous studio practice and scholarly achievement. Through its communication venues such as broadcasts, conferences, exhibits, live performances, publications, readings, recitals and screenings, the college shares its artistic achievements and communication expertise with the general public.

Stars get involved! Why live in a Residential College like The Stars? Residential colleges at UCA provide students with a learning experience unlike any other; you live where you learn and you learn what you love! Residential College students also earn higher grades and are far more likely to return to college after completing the first-year. They also graduate at rates 12% higher than non-Residential College students. And, of course, having an academic advisor assigned to Residential College students helps immensely!

The Stars classrooms also offer the most advanced
educational tools to enhance your learning experience. And yes, many of your classes are in the building so Stars students can attend class without parking hassles or braving the elements. You will rub elbows with other Stars while completing your general education classes (all first-year Stars take three Stars classes in the fall semester and two in the spring semester). The curriculum makes forming study groups a breeze and helps improve your social life and you can take advantage of study sessions and other programs lead by upper-classman advocates. Additionally, the environment of The Stars Residential College encourages creative expression and exploration. With hours set aside for performances, music and other creative endeavors, you never have to worry about disturbing other students not involved in Stars programs. Speakers and artists are regularly brought in to further enhance your experience and broaden your creative horizons.
The Stars offers a wide variety of activities and
social events—cultural trips both inside and outside the state; opportunities to participate in art, music, writing, and film competitions and so much more. UCA has a number of organizations you’ll want to check out such as the Art History Association, Black Box Gallery, Clay Club, Channel 6, Arkansas Shakespeare Festival, the annual piano competition, Lambda Pi Eta, AfterWords, Scroll and the Vortex literary magazine. The Baum Gallery features regional and national exhibits as well as student shows. Only Stars students get to volunteer their time and usher at Reynolds Performance Hall for sold-old performances such as 101 Years of Broadway and STOMP. You’ll love being a Star!
