Life Changing events to share Ben & I married June 9, 1990, just a few days after each of us graduated. We headed off to Arkansas Tech University that fall. During the first year, Ben accepted a call into the ministry, so we also began a ministerial internship. Ben finished his math education degree in 1994, while I took a short hiatus to have our two boys, Marcus (1994) and Jonathan (1995), and then finished my business education degree in 1996. We consecutively served in several churches as youth, music
and associate pastors, including spending a couple of years back in Mena from 1995-1997, during which Ben taught at his alma mater, Acorn. In 2000, we were given the opportunity to pastor River of Life Church in Hot Springs with the stipulation that Ben would be full-time; however, he had just signed a contract at a new school district. They miraculously agreed to run his position and found someone to take his place, so they released him from his contract. Many times, we’ve stood on that decision as a sign that we are where God placed us. In 2002, I was offered a job as Special Ed Designee in an elementary school, which was a miracle to be offered a job for which I was not certified, neither special ed nor elementary. In 2005, I finished my master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education and am coordinating the SPED services at Oaklawn Magnet in Hot Springs. Ben finished his Master of Divinity from Regent University in 2009, which he earned while continuing to pastor our church. While working toward his master’s, Ben also completed certification to become a Life and Leadership Coach. He currently is working to help churches and other organizations to shift their leadership culture to a coaching style. He also is focused on helping individuals who are seeking to make changes in their life including, but not limited to, wellness and weight loss. This is an area that is near to Ben’s heart because he has lost over 100 pounds in the last couple of years. In 2001, Ben and I began the process of assisting needy students in Garland County by raising funds within our church to purchase 30 backpacks full of school supplies. This rapidly grew into what is known today as Project Backpack – a 501c3 dedicated to showing the love of Christ to families from single parent homes and grandparents raising grandchildren by providing back-to-school needs each year. To date we have given away over 6,000 backpacks full of school supplies. Finally, but most important, we are very proud of our two sons, Marcus and Jonathan. Marcus has excelled in the area of music and is already an accomplished jazz pianist and tenor saxophonist. Jonathan is showing great interest and skill in sports, particularly tennis. Both are doing great academically and we anticipate a bright future for them. Family is very important to us and we are very blessed that our extended families have become one and have celebrated holidays together for the last 20 years. My dad passed away in 2006, so we are thankful to still have my mom, Donna Ashley, and Ben’s parents, Benny & Jo Ann Wiles, in good health. Most of all, we are thankful to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who has kept us and directed our paths. We look forward to His plans for the next 20 years!

Moved BACK to Washington State in 2004 for 2 years. Divorced Brandon in May 2006 and moved BACK to Memphis area! Jamie was a friend from my 1st stay in Memphis. He & I started dating and married in November 2007. Was diagnosed with Stage II Breast Cancer August 25, 2008. Had a bilateral mastectomy September 16, 2008 (had tissue expanders put in during this surgery too), started chemo October 23, 2008, implant surgery March 12, 2009 and complete hysterectomy December 1, 2009. I am pleased to say I am now CANCER FREE!!!!! I have 4 horses, 3 dogs, 2 cats and 10 chickens. I have a stepdaughter that I claim as my own….. Between work and the critters at home, I stay pretty busy. I visit Mena as often as I want or need to. I like being close to home, but would love to move back some day.

Life Changing events to share Married Randy Nov 1990, became a Christian, graduated from RMCC 1992, worked at Mena title Co 92 – 97, Nov 94 Randy had a job-related accident that kept him home
for 9 months. Miscarried 1st pregnancy Jan 95. Had 1st daughter 1996, quit work to stay at home Aug 97. We became self-employed purchasing a log truck in 98. Big decision for us! Had 2nd daughter May 98. 2002 because Randy broke his leg, we had no income and I had to go back to work, began cleaning vacation cabins in Watson at the Rivers Edge Cottages. Also in 02, Randy began filling the pulpit at a small church in Octavia, OK (suburb of Smithville, HA HA!) because they didn’t have a preacher. Randy felt called into the ministry to preach and in 03 took the position of pastor at Trinity Baptist church of Octavia and was ordained, therefore, I became a preacher’s wife (not ever on my list of “things to do before I die”). 1999 – 2006 we enjoyed a lot of camping and 4-wheeling and time on the lake together. Our children practically grew up in our camper. We were very blessed by the Lord in our business but sold out of the trucking business in July 06 because trucking 14 hours a day, pastoring a church and having a family don’t mix very well! Our marriage and his health were beginning to suffer. Big test of our faith and obedience! Immediately God provided Randy with a Road Grader Operator job with McCurtain County, so now he pastors Trinity and works for McCurtain County OK. 2005 or 2006? I got involved with a local bible ministry for the public school system where we get to take the children off campus for bible teaching once a month. We began at Smithville School and now also have it in Watson. 2009 our small school at Watson (kindergarten – 8th grade) was on the verge of closing and we were under great stress as a pastor’s family struggling for family time so after much prayer we decided to begin homeschooling our two girls which would be in the 6th & 8th grade. I quit my job at the Rivers Edge to be home full time. God has taken me through some very tough and trying times in my marriage and in my walk with Him but He has always brought me out the other side hopefully more like Him to be able to minister to others. I think it is so funny to look back at the path I’ve taken and remember back 20 years ago knowing that I could’ve never imagined this is what my life was going to be like. I have been abundantly blessed!

Wish your children could grow up in the Mena you grew up in? Mmm, yeah Life Changing events to share Jr & I married 2 weeks after we graduated (20 years!!) We lived in Mena and he built houses, I took some classes at RMCC. We bought a sawmill and found out we were going to have our first child in 1991. Jake was born June 16, 1992, our house sold and we moved to Oden, when Jake was one year old. Our second son, Tate, was born 2-10-94. We continued to operate our sawmill for about four more years. I went work in Mt Ida, and Junior got a dump truck, and in 1998 Junior began building portable buildings at Oden. He took some displays to Lowes stores and that is how The Outback Barn, got started. We have worked hard and have been very blessed these last 10 years, and are looking forward to the next 10!! We took an amazing trip last summer- we went to Nebraska to visit my brother, on to Cody, WY. – 3 days in Yellow Stone, where we white water rafted- traveled thru OR and into CA were we were awe struck with the grandeur of the Red Woods- went to Yosemite, where Tate rock climbed and the grand finale was the 2009 X Games in LA! Of course we couldn’t pass up Vegas and the Grand Canyon. (21 days is a long time for two teenagers to be stuck with their parents) But was I ever glad to see that Arkansas sign. All in all we have been very blessed in our 20 years. Jake graduated this year- and as we reflected back on our lives we can give God the Glory for all He has brought us thru – the good and the bad. He has used both to mold us into the happy family we are.

Life Changing events to share I met my husband June 1, 1991 and we married July 1991. It is the best decision I ever made! He is the love of my life and the father of my wonderful boys. Seth is 14 years old and plays basketball, throws the shot-put and discus and shoots trap. He is 6’1” tall and 220 lbs already (big kid!) Zane is 10 years old and plays football. They are both straight A students and so sweet and funny. Mike, my husband, teaches school and is a LTCol in the National Guard. He is my hero. He spent a year in Iraq and may have to go to Afghanistan in the next couple of years, but we are hoping the war will end before that time comes. We live in Mena and attend church in Cove.

Life Changing events to share I made the most pivotal decision of my life when I was 17. Everything else has kinda fallen like dominos. I chose to forgo my scholarship offer in an attempt to stay with
my sister and watch out for her. After a few months, I became so frustrated that I left home on a day’s notice and moved in with Mike, who I’d known since age 14. We were married 6 weeks later, and I became pregnant with Tyler within the first couple of months. Neither of us were really prepared for marriage or a family. It lasted 5 years. After we split, I moved back to Mena (’96) and met Shane. I became pregnant with Marcus shortly after. We were not even dating when he was born, but got back together at his 1st birthday party and married a year and a half later. I never wanted that marriage to end. As the saying goes “It takes two” and unfortunately, he just wasn’t in it the same way I was. It lasted 7 years. Still reeling from the second divorce and grasping for something to make me feel whole again, I married a third time. It was complete chaos. We only lived together 4 months before splitting and filing for divorce. I’ve dated quite a bit since then and refuse to settle. I even had a radio segment last year called “Disaster Dating”. You wouldn’t believe the stories……quite entertaining! On the job front, I made a career in Ad Sales. I loved it! However, the economic conditions of the past couple of years have taken their toll on media sales. In an oversaturated market such as Fort Smith, many who could find an alternative career path took it. I was very fortunate to be recruited by Tankersley Foodservice as support for their sales team. And yes, I plan to be back out pounding the pavement someday.

Life Changing events to share Two weeks after graduation, I married, and then 2 weeks after that, I started nursing school (LPN). Now, looking back I can determine at least one of those was a good choice. I remained married for the next 12 years and had 2 beautiful girls from that relationship. During that time, I worked various positions in the health care profession and went on to obtain my RN in 1997. In 2002, I remarried, this time the man I am meant to spend the rest of my life with. We had an “instant brady bunch” it seemed. Our blended family now consisted of my 2 girls, his 2 girls and his 2 boys. Life was good-no-life was Grand. Over the last 8 years, Doug and I have worked hard in our professions; me in nursing and him in construction. We’ve been thru many ups and down with our children growing up. We keep telling ourselves it’ll get easier when the last 2 are finally over 18 and out doing their own thing, but sometimes we wonder. We’ve been diligent in raising them and teaching them right from wrong and now just hope they all make the best choices for themselves. We’re grateful for the lives we have.
