eff Koons é considerado um dos artistas mais importantes, influentes e controversos da era pós-guerra.

Em parceria com o Whitney Museum of American Art de Nova Iorque, o Centre Pompidou, em Paris, vai receber a ‘primeira grande retrospectiva na Europa dedicada a Koons’, com cerca de 150 obras do artista datadas entre 1978 até aos dias de hoje e que incluem obras-chave como a peça de porcelana ‘Michael Jackson and Bubbles’ (1988), ‘One Ball Total Equilibrium Tank’ (1985) e a pintura ‘Olive Oyl’ (2003), da série ‘Popeye’.

Explorando desde há trinta e cinco anos as novas abordagens do ready made e da apropriação, desafiando as fronteiras entre cultura de elite e cultura de massa e transformando a relação dos artistas com o culto à celebridade e com as regras do mercado, a exposição estará patente entre 26 de Novembro e 27 de Abril do próximo ano seguindo posteriormente viagem para o Museu Guggenheim, em Bilbao.

eff Koons is considered one of the most important, influential and controversial artists of the post-war era.

In partnership with New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art, the Centre Georges Pompidou, in Paris, will welcome the “first major retrospective in Europe dedicated to Koons”, with some 150 works by the artist dating from 1978 to the present day, including key works such as the porcelain piece Michael Jackson and Bubbles (1988), One Ball Total Equilibrium Tank (1985) and the painting Olive Oyl (2003) from the Popeye series.

For the last thirty-five years Koons has been exploring new approaches to the readymade and appropriation, challenging the boundaries between the culture of elite and mass culture, and transforming the relationship of artists to the cult of celebrity and to the rules of the market. The exhibition runs from November 26, 2014 to April 27, 2015, before then heading to the Guggenheim Museum, in Bilbao, Spain.

urante anos, Álvaro Macieira dedicou-se a noticiar cultura no Jornal de Angola. Foi pesquisador literário, crítico, escritor e um importante impulsionador no aparecimento de novos talentos artísticos em Angola. Sabe quem o leu que sempre se pautou pelo rigor e pela crítica esclarecida na área cultural. O desejo de ser artista sempre se manifestou, mas Álvaro teve de fazer ouvidos moucos.

Longe vão os tempos em que Álvaro Macieira, sentado na sala da escola, pintava quatro aguarelas em simultâneo, usando apenas um pincel. Fosse Angola nos anos 60, uma terra de oportunidades e Álvaro teria seguido Belas Artes. Mas era impossível, sobretudo para um rapaz vindo de Sanza Pombo. Seguiu atrás da arte de escrever e a arte de pintar estava reservada para quando fosse velhinho. Mas aos 40 anos Macieira decidiu que estava na hora de se reinventar e revelou-se pintor. Nas palavras do artista, renasceu.

Como o próprio defende, foram 40 anos de séria pesquisa artística, estudando muitas correntes e muitas técnicas não numa sala de aula, mas in loco em museus, ateliers e exposições. Macieira é a perfeita personificação da célebre frase de Cezanne ‘a arte nutre-se da arte para produzir arte’.

A arte de Álvaro Macieira nutre-se sobretudo de Victor Teixeira ‘Viteix’, um amigo pessoal que, lamentavelmente nunca viu pintar.

Diz hoje que gostaria de ter visto os grandes mestres a pintar… porque reconhece aí a verdadeira fonte de riqueza, neste tipo de partilha. É por isso que Macieira é generoso e não tem problemas em mostrar a sua técnica a outros pintores, uma técnica que tem tanto de intuitivo como de fascinante. Há algo de muito puro na arte de Macieira, e por isso jura que, cada vez que pinta, talvez, sente-se uma criança a desenhar sobre a areia.

or years Álvaro Macieira dedicated his time to writing features about culture in the Jornal de Angola. He was a literary researcher, critic, writer and an important driver behind the appearance of new artistic talent in Angola. Anyone who read his work knows that he has always been guided by rigour and clarified critique in the area of culture. The desire to be an artist was something he always felt, but Álvaro had to turn a deaf ear to it.

Long ago, as a schoolchild sat in his classroom, Álvaro Macieira would paint four watercolours at the same time, using just one brush. This was Angola in the 1960s, a land of opportunities and Álvaro should have gone on to Fine Arts. But such a thing was impossible, especially for a boy from Sanza Pombo. The art of writing would be his calling, with the art of painting reserved for old age.

But at the age of 40, Macieira decided that the time had come to reinvent himself and made his debut as a painter. In the words of the artist, he was born again.

As the new-born artist insists, he had 40 years of detailed artistic research, studying many movements and many techniques, not in the classroom, but on site, in museums, studios and exhibitions. Macieira is the perfect personification of the famous saying

by Cézanne – ‘art feeds on art to produce art’.

The art of Álvaro Macieira feeds in particular on Victor Teixeira (Viteix), a personal friend, who, sadly he never saw paint. Today he says that he would like to have seen the great masters paint... because he recognises there the true source of wealth, is this kind of sharing. This is why Macieira is generous and has no problems in showing his technique to other painters, a technique that is as much intuitive as it is fascinating. There is something very pure in Macieira’s art, and therefore he swears that every time he paints, he feels like a child drawing in the sand.

O pintor, que há muito se havia afirmado poeta, já expôs em vários sítios do mundo, tendo realizado exposições individuais em Portugal, Rússia, Brasil, França, Alemanha, Itália, EUA e Inglaterra. E em todas as obras que apresenta há duas caraterísticas que saltam à vista: a imensa criatividade e a capacidade de pintar com uma linguagem marcadamente africana.

Tudo fruto da profunda relação que mantém com Angola, da permanente investigação da cultura nacional e das constantes viagens que o levaram até à Angola mais autêntica.

The painter, who long before had made his mark as a poet, has already exhibited his work in many parts of the word, having held solo exhibitions in Portugal, Russia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, USA and England. And in every work that he exhibits, there are two characteristics that stand out: his immense creativity and the capacity to paint with a markedly African language. This is all the result of the deep relationship he maintains with Angola, of continued research into the nation’s culture and of the ongoing trips that take hima around Angola at its most authentic.

O artista, nascido em 1958, é ainda um acérrimo defensor da arte angolana e da promoção da educação e formação artística.

Numa altura em que ninguém sentia falta, já ele reclamava pela existência de um Museu de Arte Contemporânea em Angola. Foi também Álvaro Macieira que começou a clamar publicamente por leis proteccionistas, no sentido de levar a arte angolana para os constantes novos espaços públicos que abrem em Angola. Dois dos muitos exemplos que poderiam ser apontados para provar a visão ampla que este pintor têm em relação à arte que o fez renascer.

Born in 1958, the artist is still a fierce supporter of Angolan art and of promoting education and artistic training. At a time in which nobody felt the need, he was already calling for the existence of a Museum of Contemporary Art in Angola. It was also Álvaro Macieira who began to publically call for protective laws, with the aim of bringing Angolan art to new public spaces that are created in Angola. Two of many examples that could be pointed out to prove the broad vision that this painter has with regard to the art that led to his rebirth.

semelhança de muitas histórias de marcas, também a da Novos Rail começou por acaso, quando, em 1986, o fundador Rohan Vos quis arranjar uma caravana para a família, mas feita a partir de antigas carruagens de comboios. Só que os custos para realizar este sonho eram tão elevados que só havia uma forma de rentabilizar o projecto e abri-lo a mais pessoas. E foi assim que em 1989 Rohan Vos inaugura o seu primeiro comboio da Rovos Rail, o ‘Orgulho de África’. Desde então, Rohan Vos é um comprador de antigas carruagens, que após restauro, se juntam ao conjunto de preciosidades detidas pela Rovos Rail, algumas delas autênticas peças de museu que ganharam uma vida nova.

Neste momento, a Rovos Rail tem três composições de comboios, com carruagens meticulosamente restauradas e mecanicamente renascidas. Cada uma delas permite a 72 passageiros fazerem percursos idílicos entre Pretoria e a cidade do Cabo, irem de Pretoria às Victoria Falls, de Pretoria a Durban, passando pelo Krugger Park e pela Suazilândia, ou ainda de Pretoria a Sun City ou a Swakopmund, na Namíbia, atravessando o fantástico deserto do Kalahari. Quanto à duração das viagens, há opções para vários gostos e podem ir de dois a quinze dias.

imilar to the history of many brands, that of Rovos Rail also began by chance when, in 1986, its founder Rohan Vos was looking for a caravan for his family, one made from old railway carriages, that is. The only thing was, the costs to make this dream come true were too high, meaning he only had one option to make this project viable and that was to open it up to more people. And so in 1989 Rohan Vos launched his first Rovos Rail train, the Pride of Africa. Since then, Rohan Vos has been buying old carriages, which after being restored are added to the series of gems owned

by Rovos Rail, some of which are veritable museum pieces, now endowed with new life.

The company currently has three train configurations, boasting meticulously restored and mechanically revamped carriages. Each of them allows 72 passengers to take idyllic journeys between Pretoria and Cape Town, from Pretoria to Victoria Falls, from Pretoria to Durban, passing through the Kruger National Park and Swaziland, or also from Pretoria to Sun City or Swakopmund, in Namibia, crossing the fantastic Kalahari Desert. As to the duration of the trips, there are options for varying tastes, ranging from from two to fifteen days.

O charme estende-se às amplas casas de banho, aos bares com música ao vivo, e às luxuosas carruagens restaurante com os seus arcos e pilares esculpidos em madeiras nobres, onde se recomenda uma degustação de trufas defumadas. Entre os pormenores que fazem desta uma experiência única está o atendimento de elevada qualidade, o conforto a todos os níveis e a exclusividade de poder tomar uma refeição a bordo do restaurante vitoriano do ‘Orgulho de África’, com iguarias servidas em fina porcelana francesa sobre delicadas toalhas bordadas.

A partida para esta aventura é na estação Capital Park em Pretória, a única estação ferroviária de propriedade privada na África do Sul. E são cada vez mais os turistas que procuram a Rovos Rail para fazer o mais charmoso dos safaris pela savana africana. Esta aposta de Rohan Vos está ganha. A empresa não pára de crescer e neste momento conta com mais de 90 carruagens, 16 locomotivas operacionais e um avião DC de 1944. A aeronave de 21 lugares, totalmente restaurada, realiza um safari air pelo Sul africano com destaque para o Delta de Okavango e para as Vitoria Falls. A Rovos Rail tem ainda dois esplêndidos Convair 440, o que prova que este avião pós-guerra continua a dar provas de ser de confiança.

Mas a empresa não se fica por aqui e já entrou no sector da organização de eventos. Para isso utiliza um dos comboios restaurados para organização de conferências, encontros e festas, com capacidade para acolher 200 convidados. Neste caso, não é possível dormir no comboio e os passeios duram no máximo cinco horas. Todas as estratégias estão a dar fruto e a Rovos Rail já conseguiu um lugar de destaque na oferta turística da África do Sul. Graças ao charme das antigas carruagens, ao conforto das espaçosas suites, à qualidade do serviço e ao exotismo das paisagens africanas a Rovos Rail garante fazer sonhar acordados todos os que embarcarem na mais glamorosa viagem de comboio por África.

Charm extends to the large bathrooms, to the bars with live music, and to the luxurious dining cars with their carved wooden arches and pillars, where the smoked truffles come highly recommended.

Details that make this a unique experience include the exceptionally high quality of service, the comfort enjoyed at every level, and the exclusiveness of being able to enjoy a meal in the Victorian restaurant of the Pride of Africa, with delicacies served on fine French porcelain, laid on delicate embroidered table linen.

Até aqui, e em face do elevado qualidade dos modelos com que a manufatura nos tem presenteado no passado, a saxónica A. Lange & Söhne não nos consegue verdadeiramente surpreender. Mas voltemos ao mostrador regulador, inspirado na criação do relojoeiro e astrónomo Johann Heinrich Seyffert, e cujo relógio de bolso atualmente exposto no Salão de Matemática e Física de Dresden, tem a particularidade de atribuir escalas e espaços individuais aos ponteiros das horas, minutos e segundos. Um tipo de mostrador muito apreciado no seu tempo, não só por observatórios astronómicos e serviços horários, mas também por manufaturas de relojoaria que utilizavam a sua peculiar indicação do tempo para acertar os relógios que construíam. O génio de Seyffert acabaria por contribuir para que Dresden se viesse a transformar num centro de relojoaria de precisão durante o século XIX. Mas para além das horas, minutos e segundos, o mostrador inclui também as indicações inerentes a um calendário perpétuo programado até ao ano 2100, com janelas para as indicações do dia, da data e do mês, assim como uma pequena abertura circular á direita ,dedicada a assinalar o ano bissexto. Estas indicações são todas de salto instantâneo, um processo que recorre a uma mola que vai acumulando gradualmente a energia necessária através de uma came, apenas para a libertar de uma só vez, precisamente á meia noite.

first glance at the details of the new Richard Lange Perpetual Calendar ‘Terraluna’ reveals a regulator dial, with typically German looks following the finest traditions of this type of watch. Up till now, and given the exceptional level of the watches the manufacturer has presented us with in the past, Saxony’s A. Lange & Söhne doesn’t quite manage to surprise us. It’s only when you see the back of this watch that the real surprise is revealed. The complex interior mechanism, conducting the whole orchestra of functions and indications, is presented in all its glory, astounding through its beauty, perfection and conceptual innovation.

But let’s return to the regulator dial. It was inspired by the 1807 creation of watchmaker and astronomer Johann Heinrich Seyffert, a pocket watch currently on display at the Mathematics and Physics Salon in Dresden, Germany, with a ‘regulator’ arrangement of three separate but overlapping sub-dials for hours, minutes and seconds. This style of dial was appreciated in its time not only by astronomical observatories and timekeeping services, but also by clock and watchmakers who used these unique sub-dial time displays for synchronising the clocks and watches they made. Seyffert’s genius helped transform Dresden into a hub for precision horology in the 19th century.

But in addition to the hours, minutes and seconds, the dial also features the indications of a perpetual calendar, calibrated until 2100, with apertures for the day, date, and month, as well as a small circular aperture to the right, indicating the leapyear. These indicators switch instantaneously, in a process that uses a spring that gradually accumulates the necessary energy through a cam, releasing it at precisely midnight.

Impulsionada por um mecanismo que reproduz um mês sinódico de 29 dias, 12 horas, 44 minutos e 3 segundos (29,531 dias), será apenas ao fim de 1058 anos que o sistema exigirá ser corrigido em apenas um dia.

As constelações representadas no disco celeste orientam-se em relação ao sol, simbolizado pela oscilação continua do conjunto balanço espiral. O seu movimento completa uma rotação completa de 360º a cada 29 dias, 12 horas, 44 minutos e 9,6 segundos, aproximando-se do mês sinódico com uma precisão de apenas 6,6 segundos. Ao centro, a terra representada pelo hemisfério norte roda sobre si mesma a cada 24 horas permitindo uma leitura aproximada dos fusos horários com recurso á escala que circunda o trio de discos astronómicos. Um conjunto que flutua de forma descentrada sobre o magnifico movimento mecânico do calibre L096.1, e cujos 787 componentes representam a mais pura precisão, inovação e design.

Uma outra característica notável do “Terraluna” é a inclusão de um escape de força constante. Uma característica sem a qual a força do tambor de corda com capacidade para 14 dias seria demasiado alta para ser aplicada diretamente ao trem de engrenagens correndo-se o risco de comprometer o isocronismo do relógio á medida que se aproximasse do final da carga. Ao libertar pequenas quantidades de energia a intervalos de 10 segundos cada para o trem de engrenagens, o sistema de força constante da Lange garante um torque constante capaz de induzir uma amplitude de oscilação do balanço regular. O resultado é um nível de precisão superior.

Finalmente o verso, a face sobre a qual o “Terraluna” revela a verdadeira inspiração dos seus criadores, abrindo-nos a porta para um fascinante microcosmos digno de Galileu Galilei. O destaque vai na sua quase totalidade para a indicação astronómica composta por três discos em ouro que permitem múltiplas leituras com destaque para a posição da lua relativamente á terra e ao sol, algo que representa uma estreia absoluta num relógio de pulso.

Another notable feature of the ‘Terraluna’ is the inclusion of a constant-force escapement.

Without this feature, the torque of a fully wound spring, all the way to its 14-day capacity, would be too high to be applied directly to the gear train, running the risk of compromising the isochronism of the watch as it approaches the end of its power reserve. In releasing small quantities of energy at 10-second intervals, Lange’s constant-force system ensures constant torque, thus inducing unvarying amplitude for the balance, which produces exceptional accuracy.

Finally the back of the watch, the side on which the ‘Terraluna’ reveals the true inspiration of its creators, opening the door on a fascinating micro-cosmos worthy of Galileo himself. This is the highlight of the watch, an astronomical display comprising three gold discs that show the location of the moon relative to the sun and the earth; the first time this has been done in a wristwatch.

The moon can be seen in all its phases through an aperture in the celestial disc studded with stars and constellations, orbiting around the earth in an anticlockwise fashion (east to west). Powered by a mechanism that reproduces the synodic month of 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 3 seconds (29,531 days), it will have passed 1058 years before the display needs to be corrected by one single day.

The constellations represented on the celestial disc are guided with relation to the sun, represented by the constant oscillation of the balance. The disc makes a full rotation of 360º every 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 9.6 seconds, close to the synodic month with an accuracy of just 6.6 seconds. At the centre, the earth is represented by the northern hemisphere, rotating once every 24 hours and allowing an approximate reading of time zones using the scale around the three astronomical discs. ust months off commemorating 20 years of career, it can be said in all certainty that painter Natália Gromicho already boasts an exceptional portfolio.

With more than 70 exhibitions around the world, a host of awards and her work represented in private collections and public institutions from London and Paris to the United States, Italy, Australia, the Netherlands and Portugal, the Lisbon born artist has stood out as unrivalled and unique through her work.

Mais acessível e visualmente mais espectacular, é o Old Head Golf Links, situado em County Cork, na Irlanda. Este campo de 18 buracos é um dos mais bonitos do mundo. Tem uma vista deslumbrante, 100 metros acima do mar, com os seus três faróis antigos, o som das ondas a bater na falésia e o permanente cheiro a maresia. E do mais belo passamos para o mais relaxante, o Pinehurst n.º 2, e peça central do Pinehurst Resort, na Carolina do Norte, EUA. Começou por ser um resort de saúde mas acabou por tornar-se no mais relaxante circuito de golfe do mundo, graças à sua paisagem descontraída e natural, habitat de muitos esquilos, à brisa suave, aos muitos pinheiros e ao badalar de um carrilhão de sinos.

Number eight on the list goes to the West Course, at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club, considered Australia’s finest course and one of the oldest in Oceania. Staying in the same region, another highlight is Cape Kidnappers Golf Course, in New Zealand, referred to by some players as the world’s most difficult course. A course that could never be left out of any golfing top ten is the Old Course at St. Andrews, in Scotland. The birthplace of golf, this is where it all began in the 16th century. This is Europe’s most iconic course and, fortunately, still a public course and hence, open to all. Fifth place is occupied by Augusta National Golf Club, in Georgia, USA. It is seen as the top course in America and known for being one for being one of the world’s most exclusive clubs, in which women were excluded until recently.

More open and visually more spectacular, the Old Head Golf Links, in County Cork, Ireland. This 18-hole course is one the world’s most beautiful. Located beside three old lighthouses, Old Head enjoys stunning cliff top views over the ocean, with the sound of the waves breaking below and shifting sea breezes providing challenging play. From beauty we move on to tranquillity, with Pinehurst no. 2, the centrepiece of Pinehurst Resort, in North Carolina, USA. It began as a health resort but ended up being the world’s most relaxing golf layout thanks to its squirrel-dotted scenery, gentle breezes, pine trees and the chime of church bells on the hour.

eve leve’ é uma expressão comum entre os habitantes de São Tomé e Príncipe e descreve na perfeição a cadência do tempo nas ilhas. eve leve”, roughly meaning easy living, is a common expression among the inhabitants of São Tomé and Príncipe, describing to perfection the pace of life on the islands. Forget the rat-race, take off your watch and head off in discovery of the archipelago where time glides by, allowing visitors to soak up a colourful cultural mosaic created over the centuries. Located in the Atlantic Ocean, in the Gulf of Guinea, the two islands of São Tomé and Príncipe lie on the imaginary line of the equator. You can bathe in warm and invigorating sea waters every day of the year here, with their varying palette from turquoise or emerald to even black, when volcanic rocks so colour them. The setting, wherever you go, is dominated by imposing and majestic tropical vegetation, far removed from the arid image often associated with Africa. There are no boutique hotels here, no luxury restaurants or boutiques, but they aren’t missed either.

Para turistas mais exigentes, no que toca ao conforto, existem duas opções na capital: o Pestana São Tomé e o Omali Lodge. É uma das capitais mais pequenas do mundo, por isso deslocar-se por aqui é seguro, fácil e barato. Os táxis, velhinhos carros amarelos, são uma alternativa barata (50 mil dobras que equivalem a dois euros) para quem não gosta de andar a pé, assim bem como as inúmeras motas que vagueiam pela cidade em busca de clientes. Uma viagem de moto dentro da cidade custa 10 mil dobras, menos de 0,50 cêntimos de Euro. Passear pela cidade é marcar um encontro com a antiga arquitectura colonial portuguesa, alguma dela ainda do século XVI, como é o caso do forte de São Sebastião, que acolhe actualmente o museu nacional. As inúmeras casas coloniais, com os seus rendilhados de madeira, apesar de muito degradas, conservam um charme de outrora, dos tempos em que o país era o rei mundial da produção de cacau.

Visitar o mercado é uma experiência obrigatória. As ruelas que o circundam enchem-se de vida desde o amanhecer, espalhando pela cidade cheiros de frutas exóticas e peixe fresco, muita cor de flores e especiaria exuberantes e pregões. Entre as paragens obrigatórias na cidade estão ainda: a famosa fábrica de Claudio Corallo, onde pode degustar um dos melhores chocolates do mundo; os jantares no quintal da Dona Tété; o restaurante-miradouro ‘O Bigodes’, com o seu caril de camarão e ananás; e a Cacau, um antigo armazém que acolhe, entre outras iniciativas, espectáculos de música tradicional de Puíta e Dêxa e jantares de degustação. Vai reparar que por toda a cidade há muita gente, nomeadamente crianças, a tentarem ganhar uma esmola dos turistas. For more discerning tourists, when it comes to comfort there are options in the capital: the Pestana São Tomé and the Omali Lodge. It is one of the world’s smallest capitals, so getting around is safe, easy and cheap. The taxis, old yellow cars, are a cheap alternative (50,000 dobras, equivalent of two Euros) for those who don’t feel like walking, as are the many motorbikes that roam the city in search of customers. A motorbike ride in the city costs 10,000 dobras, less than 50 Euro cents. Strolling around the city is like paying a visit to the old style of Portuguese colonial architecture, some of it dating from as early as the 16th century, as in the case of São Sebastião Fort, which now houses the national museum. The many colonial houses, with their wooden filigree, despite their tired condition, retain their olden day charm, from the times when the country was the world cocoa production king.

Visiting the market is an experience not to be missed. The lanes surrounding it are packed with life from dawn, the cries from stallholders, the exuberance of colourful flowers and spices, while the scents of exotic fruit and fresh fish carry across the city. Must-see sites in the city also include: the famous Claudio Corallo factory, where you can enjoy one of the world’s finest chocolates; dinners in Dona Tété’s backyard; the “O Bigodes” restaurant-lookout point, with its prawn and pineapple curry; and the Cacau, an old warehouse hosting, among other initiatives, performances of traditional Puíta and Dêxa music and tasting dinners. You’ll notice that throughout the city there are many people, mainly children, begging for money from tourists. If you want to help, and at the same time be a responsible tourist, look for one of the many associations supporting local communities. You will be helping to ensure that a healthier image of tourism is fostered in younger citizens.

It’s probable that by your second or third day you’ll be ready to leave the city to discover the rest of the island. To get to the best places the best thing is to hire one of the tour guides recommended by the hotels. Start by discovering some of the roça farmsteads, such as the Monte Café or the Roça Saudade, where Almada Negreiros was born, or the Botanical Garden, and refresh yourself in the many waterfalls of crystal-clear water flowing down the slopes.

On the trip to the North make a date with the Praia das Conchas beach, the indescribable ‘Blue Lagoon’ and the fishing community of Neves, where they serve the best crabs on the island, accompanied by the lightness of a Rosema, the local beer.

É sobre este ilhéu que passa a linha imaginária do equador, possibilitando ao turista ter um pé no hemisfério sul e outro no hemisfério norte. ideia de criar perfumes ‘à medida’ com o nome Cartier surgiu em 2005 em comemoração da inauguração da boutique da rue de La Paix em Paris. No entanto, a aventura da maison no mundo das fragrâncias tinha começado muito antes, em 1908, quando o joalheiro decidiu criar o seu primeiro frasco de perfume. Estilizados e inspirados em civilizações misteriosas e longínquas ou baseados em peças da antiguidade, os frascos cristalizavam a tradição de uma casa que ainda hoje coloca o objecto de arte decorativo no centro do seu ímpeto criativo.

Mathilde Laurent é herdeira desta tradição, e a actual perfumista da casa francesa. Elevada por muitos ao mesmo patamar de excelência como Jean-Claude Ellena (Hermès), Jaques Polge (Chanel) ou François Demachy (Dior), e considerada brilhante pelo próprio Luca Turin, Mathilde cresce numa família com uma estreita ligação à arte em geral, razão que poderá explicar o fascínio e a paixão que desenvolveu pela expressão artística.

Licenciada e com um mestrado em Química, inicia-se nos mistérios da perfumaria no Instituto Superior Internacional do Perfume, da Cosmética e da Aromática Alimentar (ISIPCA), que terminou com 24 anos, seguindo directamente para uma carreira de uma década na Guerlain. É aí que, sob a inf luência directa do lendário Jean-Paul Guerlain, Mathilde cria perfumes como ‘Attrape Coeur’, ‘No 68’, ‘Pamplelune’ e ‘Shalimar Eau Légère’.

he idea of creating “bespoke” perfumes featuring the Cartier name came about in 2005 to commemorate the opening of its Rue de la Paix boutique, in Paris. However, the maison’s foray into the world of fragrances began long before this, in 1908, when the jeweller decided to create its first perfume flacon. Stylised and inspired by mysterious and distant civilisations, or based on pieces from antiquity, the flacons crystallised the tradition of a house that to this very day places the decorative objet d’art at the forefront of its creative drive.

As the current perfumer of the French house, Mathilde Laurent has inherited this tradition. Deemed to occupy the same level of excellence as Jean-Claude Ellena (Hermès), Jaques Polge (Chanel) or François Demachy (Dior), and considered brilliant by Luca Turin himself, Mathilde grew up in a family with close ties to art in general – hence the fascination and passion she developed for artistic expression.

With a degree and master’s degree in chemistry, she gained her first insight into the mysteries of perfumery at the Institut Supérieur International du Parfum, de la Cosmétique et de l’Aromatique Alimentaire (ISIPCA), from where she graduated at 24, before embarking on a career lasting a decade at Guerlain. It is there, under the direct influence of the legendary Jean-Paul Guerlain, that Mathilde created perfumes such as Attrape Coeur, No 68, Pamplelune, and Shalimar Eau Légère.

Nos anos que se seguem, Mathilde dá asas à sua criatividade e, em 2008, imagina o Perfume ‘Roadster’, seguindo-se em 2011 ‘Cartier de Lune’ e ‘Baiser Volé’. Mas seriam as treze fragrâncias que compõem a exclusiva colecção ‘Les Heures de Parfum’ que elevavam definitivamente o estatuto de Mathilde Laurent a um nível de excelência, que acabam por lhe valer o reconhecimento ‘inter pares’ na edição de 2010 da ‘Fragrance Foundation of France Awards’ (prémios FIFI). O perfume ‘La Treizième Heure’ ganharia neste evento duas distinções prestigiadas nas categorias de ‘Perfumers Award’ e ‘Specialists Award’.

Hoje, Mathilde Laurent vê o perfume como uma visão estética e uma afirmação olfactiva, construindo fórmulas directas e concisas com novos ingredientes que dão origem a perfumes ricos em inumeráveis nuances.

A um ritmo constante, tem vindo a criar uma série de fragrâncias para a Cartier onde se incluem, entre as mais recentes, ‘Baiser Volé Lys Rose’, ‘La Panthère’, ‘Oud & Musc’, ‘Oud & Oud’ e ‘Oud & Rose’, todos lançados este ano.

Mas, o mais relevante na criatividade de Mathilde Laurent e nos perfumes que cria para a Cartier, é a sua afirmação de que ‘um bom perfume começa sempre com uma grande ideia’.

On February 14, 2005, she began her career at Cartier, helping the brand to develop a range of “bespoke” fragrances offered through a service provided in the select and exclusive environment of the Salon des Parfums, located inside the Rue de la Paix boutique. An entrance that definitively placed the maison within the world of haute parfumerie. In the years that followed, Mathilde gave free rein to her creativity and, in 2008, she created the perfume Roadster, followed in 2011 by Cartier de Lune and Baiser Volé. But it would be the thirteen fragrances making up the exclusive Les Heures de Parfum collection that would definitively lift Mathilde Laurent to the status of excellence, and which would end up earning her the recognition of her peers at the 2010 edition of the Fragrance Foundation of France Awards. The perfume La Treizième Heure won two prestigious gongs at this event in the Perfumers Award and Specialists Award categories.

Today Mathilde Laurent sees perfume as an aesthetic vision and an olfactory affirmation, constructing direct and concise formulae with new ingredients that give rise to perfumes rich in countless nuances.

At a constant pace, she created a series of fragrances for Cartier, including, among the latest, Baiser Volé Lys Rose, La Panthère, Oud & Musc, Oud & Oud and Oud & Rose, all launched this year.

But, the most important thing in Mathilde Laurent’s creativity and in the perfumes that she creates for Cartier is her belief that “a good perfume always begins with a great idea”.

he decoration of the 2014 edition of the Biennale des Antiquaires transformed the Grand Palais in Paris into an authentic garden inspired by the examples designed by André le Nôtre in 1661 for Louis XIV’s Versailles. The theme, which inspired Jacques Grange, was the ideal setting for Bulgari, which, in addition to being the only Italian high jewellery representative, was also commemorating the impressive age of 130 years. An anniversary for which the calibre and splendour of the 100 pieces of jewellery presented by the house founded by Sotirio Bulgari proved to be the cherry on top of a beautiful birthday cake.

As colecções apresentadas pelo joalheiro italiano fizeram plena justiça ao crescente prestigio que a Biennale des Antiquaires tem vindo a alcançar globalmente como a mais importante mostra de alta joalharia de todo o mundo. Uma importância que Lucia Silvestri, Directora Criativa da Bulgari neste segmento de produto, confirma, não só pela selecção de marcas congéneres que expõem na Biennale mas também por ser um enorme desafio criativo.

The collections presented by the Italian jeweller fully lived up to the growing prestige that the Biennale des Antiquaires has achieved as the world’s most important high jewellery show.

An importance that Lucia Silvestri, creative director at Bulgari in this product segment, confirms, not only for the selection of fellow brands exhibiting at the Biennale, but also for being a huge creative challenge.

Razão pela qual uma parte das peças em exposição ter sido criada especificamente para este evento parisiense que ocorre a cada dois anos. Concebidas em torno de pedras excepcionais adquiridas ao fim de longas viagens de prospecção em redor do globo, a joia final acaba por ser o resultado de um exercício criativo que Lucia Silvestri não se iniba de descrever. ‘Uma das primeiras coisas que o Sr. Bulgari me ensinou foi que quando seleccionamos pedras de excepção temos de pensar primeiro no que vamos fazer com elas. E temos de fazê-lo de forma apaixonada sem nos deixarmos subjugar em demasia pela pedra em si, definindo logo no nosso subconsciente o que podemos fazer. Às vezes acabo por mudar de ideias, porque encontrei outras pedras durante as minhas viagens, concebendo um novo desenho e dando um destino totalmente diferente à gema.

Trabalho muitíssimo para conseguir encontrar a combinação final que, além disso, ainda tem de obedecer ao estilo único da Bulgari’.

For this reason, some of the pieces on display have been created specifically for this Parisian event, which takes place every two years. Designed around the exceptional stones acquired after long prospecting trips around the globe, the final jewel ends up being the result of a creative exercise that Lucia Silvestri is happy to describe. “One of the first things that Mr Bulgari taught me was that, when we select exceptional stones, we first have to think about what we are going to do with them. And we have to do it passionately without allowing ourselves to be swayed too much by the stone itself; defining from the outset in our subconscious what we can do. Sometimes I end up changing my mind, because I find other stones during my travels, coming up with a new design and giving the gem a whole new destiny. I work very hard to manage to achieve the final combination, which, in addition to this, also has to match the unique Bulgari style.”

Muitas das peças expostas nesta Biennale foram inspiradas por colecções eternas da marca como a Serpenti, MVSA ou Diva, conhecidas pelas suas cores marcantes, volumes sensuais e combinação de talhes criativos. Uma realidade que é particularmente marcante na colecção Serpenti, que desde os anos 40 tem vindo a simbolizar a eternidade e feminilidade na Bulgari.

Já as novas criações da colecção Diva inspiram-se na beleza intemporal de divas como Elizabeth Taylor, um símbolo que ecoa nos padrões em mosaico retirados da antiga arquitectura romana num claro tributo à herança criativa da marca italiana.

No que se refere à colecção MVSA, são as nove irmãs nascidas de Zeus, segundo a mitologia da Grécia antiga, que são homenageadas por serem uma fonte de inspiração ao longo dos tempos incorporando múltiplas facetas da criatividade humanas. Many of the pieces on show at this Biennale have been inspired by eternal collections from the brand, such as Serpenti, MVSA or Diva, known for their striking colours, sensual volumes and combination of creative cuts. This is especially true in the Serpenti collection, which since the 1940s has symbolised eternity and femininity at Bulgari.

The new creations in the Diva collection find their inspiration in the timeless beauty of divas such as Elizabeth Taylor, a symbol that echoes in the mosaic patterns taken from ancient Roman architecture in a clear tribute to the creative legacy of the Italian brand.

With regard to the MVSA collection, the nine daughters, which, according to Greek mythology were sired by Zeus, are honoured for being a source of inspiration throughout time, incorporating many facets of human creativity. In a harmonious ode to fine gems, the pieces of jewellery in the MVSA collection are based on the beauty of the precious stone, reinterpreting the myth of the muses in a modern collection with dramatic colours and forms.

hen João Silva and Luís Duarte decided to create Space Inverters in 2011 they had no idea success was just around the corner. An innovative approach to designing spaces soon aroused the attention of major brands, leading to names such as Lacoste International choosing this studio as a partner. Since then, Space Inverters has been responsible Lacoste stores and Lacoste L!ve corners across Europe and America. This was the studio that created the first ever Lacoste Premium Store, on London’s Regent Street. Add to this client list Galp, Peugeot, Siemens, Škoda and Sony Playstation and the size of the success becomes all the clearer.

Em conversa com a DIAMOND, os sócios da Space Inverters defendem que ‘a loja é o ponto de encontro entre a marca e o cliente, é neste território que a marca pode transmitir tudo’. Por isso é natural que muitas marcas no mundo já olhem para as suas lojas com a devida atenção, se bem que há ainda marcas que delegam para segundo plano esta oportunidade de chegar ao cliente. Quanto a conselhos, a Space Inverters recomenda três premissas na hora de pensar um espaço comercial: não ter medo de arriscar, atitude nas intenções e humor no processo. Claro que para cumprir estas três premissas, e não falhar, o melhor é contar com a experiência de bons profissionais, o que não implica obrigatoriamente um grande investimento, porque há muitas ideias boas que não exigem grandes orçamentos. Neste momento a Space Inverters conta com uma equipa de 12 pessoas, mas deverá crescer até ao fim deste ano. 2015 deverá ser outro ano forte para o estúdio, que vai dar o primeiro passo para internacionalização estruturada com a abertura de um escritório em Paris. Confirma-se assim a capacidade destes dois sócios criarem um projecto local pensado para as necessidades do mercado global.

Talking to Diamond, the founders of Space Inverters believe that “the store is the meeting point between the brand and the customer; it is in this territory that the brand can transmit everything”. Hence it is no wonder that many brands in the world already give their stores due attention, whereas there are others who only see this opportunity to reach out to customers as a secondary consideration. When advising, Space Inverters recommends three premises at the time of configuring a retail outlet: don’t be afraid to take risks, attitude in your intentions and humour in the process. Of course, to fulfil these three premises and avoid failure, you’d be best off relying on the experience of qualified professionals, because there are many good ideas that don’t imply big budgets. At the moment Space Inverters has a team of 12 people, which should grow by the end of this year. 2015 looks set to be another strong year for the studio, with its first step towards structured internationalisation through the opening of an office in Paris. The ability of these two partners to create a local project designed for the needs of the global market is thus confirmed.

ascida e criada em Luanda, a cantora Aline Frazão começou por soltar a voz ao sabor do fado. Era menina. A brincadeira valeu-lhe um convite para fazer parte de um grupo coral. Aí, a partir dos nove anos, habituou o ouvido e a voz a todos os estilos musicais.

Mas quem a ouve cantar, facilmente percebe que a bossa nova ganhou um lugar de destaque na vida da cantora. Ainda adolescente, e longe de saber que seria a música a dar-lhe um rumo à vida, começa a tocar guitarra, a compor e a escrever canções. Ao contrário de outros fenómenos musicais que desesperados procuram por todas as formas darem-se a conhecer, Aline continua a viver a música como puro prazer. Mas quando o talento é grande, ninguém o consegue calar. Foi o que aconteceu quando em 2010 Aline foi convidada para participar no festival galego Cantos na Maré.

‘Depois dessa experiência incrível, ao lado da Uxía, da Guadi, do Lenine e do António Zambujo, decidi que ia gravar o meu primeiro disco’, partilha Aline Frazão em entrevista à DIAMOND. A primeira experiência discográfica viria em meados de 2011, em parceria com César Herranz, num álbum dominado pela flauta transversal e percussão, ‘A minha Embala’. Mas não será errado dizer que que o primeiro ‘filho’ da artista nasceria passados uns meses e receberia o nome de ‘Clave Bantu’. Este trabalho veio revelar que, além de cantora, Aline é uma empreendedora. Este disco foi uma produção independente e era vendido através dos correios.

Era a própria artista que se encarregava de enviar os envelopes contendo o seu primeiro álbum autografado. Em pouco tempo, a voz de Aline Frazão soava nas rádios e a artista percebia que todo o trabalho tinha valido a pena porque o mundo estava rendido à sua voz e ao talento de quem a apoiara, como Ondjaki ou Agualusa, que cederam duas letras inéditas ao álbum.

orn and brought up in Luanda, singer Aline Frazão began by loosening her voice to the sounds of fado. She was a girl. Her playful singing earned her an invitation to join a choral group.

There, from the age of nine, she accustomed her ears and voice to every music style. But anyone who hears her sing easily sees that bossa nova has become a highlight of her singing life.

While still a teenager, and far from knowing that music would guide her through life, she began playing the guitar, composing and writing songs. Unlike other musical phenomena, Aline continues to live music as pure pleasure. But when the talent is great, no one can keep it quiet. This is what happened when in 2010 Aline was invited to take part in the Galician Cantos na Maré festival. “After that incredible experience, alongside Uxía, Guadi, Lenine and António Zambujo, I decided that I was going to record my first record,” Aline Frazão reveals to Diamond magazine. The first recording experience would come about in mid 2011, in collaboration with César Herranz, on an album dominated by the flute and percussion, A minha Embala. But it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the artist’s first ‘offspring’ would be born a few months later and would be given the name Clave Bantu. This work revealed that, in addition to singer, Aline is an entrepreneur. This record was an independent production and was sold by post. The artist herself was responsible for sending the envelopes containing her first autographed album.

In little time, Aline Frazão’s voice could be heard on radios and the artist understood that all her work had been worth it because everyone was captivated by her voice and the talent of those who had supported her, such as Ondjaki or Agualusa, who had both written lyrics for the album.

Profundamente influenciada pelos nomes maiores da música angolana como os N’gola Ritmos, Ruy Mingas, André Mingas, Filipe Mukenga, Paulo Flores ou Belita Palma, a artista prefere não ser catalogada em nenhum estilo. Aline quer a liberdade de poder abraçar todas as linguagens do jazz ao indie-rock, do hip-hop ao soul. Ainda no capítulo das inspirações, é inegável a sua paixão pelo calor da música brasileira e, verdade seja dita, que bem lhe fica na voz esse sabor a Brasil. O trabalho criativo de Aline Frazão é como uma busca de uma linguagem própria capaz de transmitir tudo o que sente e pensa. Isto fica ainda mais claro quando olhamos o segundo álbum, editado em 2013, ‘Movimento’. Com participação de músicos que conhecera quando estava na faculdade, em Lisboa, este álbum tem a vantagem de ter no seu ADN muito improviso e espontaneidade, algo que a artista privilegia quando cria. A crítica a este trabalho não podia ser mais positiva e foi o ‘desenrolar da passadeira vermelha’ para que Aline possa agora entrar em grande.

This is even clearer when you look at her second album Movimento, released in 2013. With collaboration from musicians she had met when at university, in Lisbon, this album has the advantage of featuring a great deal of improvisation and spontaneity, something the artist favours when she creates. The reviews of this work couldn’t have been more positive, helping the ‘red carpet to roll out’ so that Aline could now enter in style.

Estudar guionismo é apenas mais uma porta que abre nesta procura incessante da sua linguagem para comunicar com o mundo e que tem sempre por trás a sua paixão pelo cinema, pintura, dança e literatura. Um dia destes ainda teremos o privilégio de ver o talento de Aline Frazão expresso num vídeo clipe ou num filme. É tão certo como, em breve, vermos chegar um novo trabalho discográfico de Aline, que confessa, já começou a escrever novas canções. Até que isso aconteça, ainda há muito ‘Movimento’ para desfrutar. Acabam de ser lançados cinco vídeos de Aline a cantar ao vivo, no B.Leza, canções do segundo álbum, que já vai na segunda edição. Os vídeos do ‘Movimento Live Sessions’ são a forma que Aline Frazão arranjou para celebrar tudo o que este disco lhe deu e lhe vai continuar a dar, pelo menos até à Primavera do próximo ano, altura em que acabam os concertos marcados um pouco por toda a Europa. And new projects are already in the pipeline. After living in Luanda, Lisbon and Madrid, the artist has moved to Barcelona. She had gone, this time, to learn how to write with images. Studying scriptwriting is just another door to open on this constant quest for her language to communicate with the world and which always has her passion for films, painting, dance and literature behind it. One of these days we will also have the privilege of seeing Aline Frazão’s talent in a video clip or in a film. This is as certain as, shortly, seeing the arrival of a new recording by Aline, who admits to having already started writing new songs. Until this happens, there is still much Movimento to enjoy. Five videos have just been released of live performances at B.Leza with Aline singing songs from her second album, now in its second edition. The videos from Movimento Live Sessions are the way that Aline Frazão chose to celebrate everything that this record has given her and continues to give her, at least until spring next year, when her concerts booked across Europe will come to an end. Gratitude and generosity are two other qualities that need to be added to the list of attributes that make up Aline Frazão, one of the greatest artists of her generation.

manpuri is a treasure. There are very few resorts in the world with this level of excellence, and so it’s no surprise that Amanpuri has often been voted one of Thailand’s best resorts. It’s not easy writing about places like this; as the saying goes, a picture is worth more than a thousand words. And in this case, the saying couldn’t be truer.

Stood within a coconut grove, this resort, housing 32 villas and 40 pavilions, is located on a promontory perched above the Andaman Sea, on the island of Phuket. The setting is truly idyllic, with the villas and pavilions distributed well apart amid the luxuriant greenery of the island and with a permanent blue in the sky and the sea. Opened in 1988, the resort was a pioneer in the ‘super exclusive’ concept, as the Aman Resorts group, the developer behind this project, didn’t give into the temptation to build a mega development here, creating a paradise in the process.

ara os amantes do mundo automóvel, o ano de 1961 ficou marcado pelo lançamento do Jaguar E-Type, considerado pelo ‘Daily Telegraph’ o carro mais bonito do mundo, numa lista de 100 automóveis. Conta-se até que Enzo Ferrari terá assumido que gostava de ter feito este carro. O criador de tal beleza foi Malcolm Sayer, um desenhador de aviões durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial, que se inspirou na forma de um torpedo para criar um carro mais veloz. O motor XK, que garantira cinco vitórias nas 24 Horas de Le Mans nos anos 50, foi utilizado no E-Type. 240 km por hora era a velocidade máxima e fizeram dele, durante anos, o carro de produção em série mais rápido do mundo. Esta fera da estrada viria a ser produzida até 1975. Ao todo, saíram da fábrica da Jaguar 72.500 unidades. Alguns deles foram parar a mãos bem distintas como a lenda do Manchester United George Best, o actor Tony Curtis, a bela Brigitte Bardot ou George Harrison dos Beatles.

A versão do E-Type para competição viria a ser lançada em 1963 pelo departamento de competição da Jaguar. Graças ao facto de ser mais leve, devido ao uso do alumínio, ganhou o título de E-Type Lightweight. Os Lightweight foram homologados para competições de GT como um E-Type descapotável de dois lugares de série e participaram em várias competições, tendo sido pilotados por nomes como Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, Roy Salvadori ou Briggs Cunningham. Sendo uma verdadeira joia, não admira que apenas 12 carros tivessem sido produzidos na altura. Onze deles ainda existem e continuam a ser as estrelas nas competições de veículos clássicos.

or fans of the automotive world, 1961 will forever be known as the year of the launch of the Jaguar E-Type, considered by The Daily Telegraph the world’s most beautiful car, in a list of 100 cars. It is believed that even Enzo Ferrari said that he would have liked to have made this car. The actual creator of such beauty was Malcolm Sayer, an aircraft designer during the Second World War, who took inspiration from the shape of torpedoes to create a faster car. The XK engine, which ensured five wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the 1950s, was used in the E-Type. Its top speed of 240 kilometres per hour made it the world’s fastest production car for years. This street beast would be produced until 1975. In total, 72,500 units left the Jaguar factory. Some of them passed into very famous hands, such Manchester United legend George Best, actor Tony Curtis, the beautiful Brigitte Bardot or George Harrison from the Beatles.

The competition version of the E-Type would be launched in 1963 by Jaguar’s competition department. Thanks to the fact that it was lighter, given the use of aluminium, it was called the lightweight E-Type. The lightweight E-Types were homologated for GT competitions as a standard convertible, two-seater E-Type and took part in various competitions, driven by names such as Graham Hill, Jackie Stewart, Roy Salvadori or Briggs Cunningham. As a real jewel, it’s no wonder that only 12 cars were produced at the time. 11 of them still exist and are still stars at classic car competitions.

Por tudo isto, a Jaguar Heritage, que integra a divisão Special Operations da Jaguar Land Rover, decidiu que a primeira réplica a ser produzida por este departamento seria o E-Type Lightweight.

Mas apenas seis sortudos, que serão seleccionados pela marca, poderão ter a honra de vir a possuir um destes tesouros. Cada um deles será construído artesanalmente, respeitando as especificações exactas do último E-Type Lightweight produzido há 50 anos, em 1964. Outra curiosidade, os carros serão produzidos nas mesmas instalações da Jaguar onde o E-Type foi construído pela primeira vez, em Browns Lane, Coventry, na Inglaterra, mas agora com uma nova fábrica. O modelo será vendido como veículo de competição histórico e poderá ser homologado pela FIA para competição.

Na realidade, este lançamento acaba por ser o encerramento do projeto Special GT E-Type, iniciado em Fevereiro de 1963. Na altura, o objectivo era construir 18 unidades, mas acabaram por sair apenas 12. Os seis números de chassis que não foram usados vão ser agora atribuídos a cada um dos carros. O primeiro protótipo foi apresentado a 14 de Agosto na recepção inaugural do Pebble Beach Automotive Weekend, o maior evento mundial de automóveis clássicos.

Apesar dos 50 anos de diferença, a construção em alumínio dos seis novos E-Type proporciona-lhes uma afinidade imediata com os modelos F-TYPE e XJ da gama actual da Jaguar, que são construídos com carroçarias em alumínio. Efectivamente, a Jaguar é o principal fabricante mundial de veículos com carroçaria em alumínio e a empresa desfruta de uma experiência inigualável nesta área. Nesta e noutras. A prová-lo estão o prestígio e a longevidade de 92 anos de vida desta marca que não pára de nos surpreender com carros elegantes e velozes que nem jaguares.

With all this in mind, Jaguar Heritage, part of Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Operations division, decided that the first replica to be produced by this department would be the lightweight E-Type.

But only six lucky people, to be selected by the manufacturer, will have the honour of possessing one of these treasures. Each one will be hand-built, respecting the exact specifications of the last lightweight E-Type produced 50 years ago, in 1964. Equally of interest, the cars will be built in the new workshop facility, located on the site of the now-defunct Browns Lane factory, in Coventry, England, where the first E-Types were made. The model will be sold as a historic competition vehicle and can be homologated for FIA historic motorsport.

In actual fact, this launch will mark the end of the Special GT E-Type project, begun in February 1963. At the time, the aim was to build 18 units, but only 12 cars ended up being built. The six chassis numbers that weren’t used will now be given to each of the new cars. The first prototype was unveiled on August 14, at the opening reception of the Pebble Beach Automotive Weekend, the world’s greatest classic car event.

Despite the 50-year age different, the aluminium construction of the six new E-Types will give them an immediate affinity with the F-Type and XJ models from Jaguar’s current range, which also feature aluminium bodywork. Indeed, Jaguar is the leading manufacturer of vehicles with aluminium bodywork and the company enjoys unrivalled experience in this area. Proving this, the prestige and longevity of 92 years of life of this brand that never stops surprising us with elegant and fast cars worthy of the animal that they represent.

ack in 2007 the Enoport United Wines Group decided to kick off its strategy of internationalisation. Angola was a priority market. And so, in 2008 EnoAng was formed, a firm established under Angolan law, dedicated to distributing wines from Enoport and those it represents. As the years have passed, looking at the results posted by EnoAng each year, the decision was a good one.

Thanks to this company, today we can enjoy two major brands, which have already won over the Angolan drinking public.

The first of these is Big Boss gin, produced and distilled entirely in Portugal by the famous Caves Neto Costa. This gin originates from a secret, original formula featuring 11 botanicals, distilled four times, with artisan production. The reception of this gin in Angola has been surprising. The other drink delighting the Angolan palate is the famous Balblair whisky. This whisky is so special that it is only produced during certain years, to ensure the highest quality standards. Interestingly, one of the best years was 1975, the year of Angola’s independence. This particular vintage was aged in sherry casks and boasts f lavours rich and creamy, touching hints of chocolate with a long and smooth finish.

Balblair is considered one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and is located in the Speyside village of Edderton, also known as Spirit of the Air following studies made by the University of Aberdeen, which claimed it has the cleanest air in all of Scotland. In addition to the 1975 edition, the 1990 and 2003 vintages are also special years.

Both Big Boss gin and Balblair whisky are drinks worthy of slow and deliberated attention, because their exceptional quality demands it. And when you’re enjoying these two precious f lavours, don’t forget to raise your glass and make a toast to EnoAng for having invested in the Angolan market.

This year is without a doubt Portugal’s finest year for top restaurants. In the 2015 edition of the Michelin Guide to Spain and Portugal 14 Portuguese restaurants were recognised. José Avillez, from the Belcanto in Lisbon, which received its first star in 2013, has become the first chef of Portuguese nationality to head a restaurant with two stars from the respected guide, thus joining the two establishments in the Algarve already boasting two stars – Vila Joya, of Dieter Koschina, and the Ocean, of Hans Neuner. Heading northwards, the restaurant of Pedro Lemos, in Oporto, made its debut in the ‘red’ guide, receiving a star for the first time, while back in the Algarve, the São Gabriel restaurant celebrated getting back the star it had lost last year, thanks to the excellent work from Leonel Pereira and his team. In brief, an historic year for Portugal’s restaurants.
