n accordance with our bylaws, an election for Officers and Directors will be held in con junction with our annual member ship meeting on Saturday June 18, 2022. Officer positions have a two yearyear term. Director terms are for four years. This year, in addition to the four Officer positions, there are three Director positions up for election. In accordance with our bylaws, any member in good standing who is at least 21 years of age may serve as an Officer or Director. If you are interested in serving your community and working to con tinue to improve the Property Owners Association, you may pick up an election package at the POA offices, The deadline for candi date registration is April 1, 2022. Any propositions to go on the ballot must be submitted by April 1st as well. Election packets can be picked up from the main POA office during regular office hours start ing Wednesday, March 3, 2022. Completed election packets must be returned to the main POA office before midnight April 1, 2022. All of these positions are volunteer positions. Daily activities at the Club are basically back to normal at this time. Inflation is having an effect on purchasing food and drink, similar to what’s happening to all of us, personally. The price of meat has in

creased significantly. The Club is investigating beef purchase procedures that would result in lower overall cost to the club. The bid to remove the remain ing pilings, etc. in the marina was approved in midDecember. Work was scheduled to start in January. The contractor incurred problems with staffing and is now sched uled to start in late February. Bids to install new floating piers are scheduled to be opened in early March so that actual construction can begin once the bids are opened, reviewed and the con tract awarded. Our Harbor Masters have been working out of their cars due to requirements implemented by FEMA/MEMA. They are thanked for their work under lessthan ideal conditions . The POA has been working closely with the city to develop a solution to the Ship’s Store and ADA compliant restrooms re strictions set by FEMA/MEMA. We now have a specific, doable vision which we believe can be fully implemented by this sum mer. The number of hours involved with this project, at this point, has been substantial. Overhanging tree limbs on the taxiways at the airport have been trimmed, some bushes removed, and trash picked up. This was needed for safety reasons because the wings of some planes were interacting with limbs on the taxiways.

Dr. William Burnett is the new director of the National Data Buoy Center, which is under the umbrella of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration at Stennis. He is a DH resident and is congratulated for his accomplish ment. There are several national golf trends based on 2021. The per centage of female golfers has increased to 23% of total golfers and also represent 31% of begin ners and 36% of junior beginners. According to the National Golf Foundation, the average number of rounds per player in 2019 was 18.2. Baby Boomers are now over 75 years old and continue to play a much higher number of times. With two golf courses in DH, the number of rounds played per year is significantly higher than the national average. We recently had 144 golfers play two rounds of golf here dur ing a twoday period. The group came mainly from St. Louis and continue to come here every year because our courses are in great condition. In addition to golf fees, they spend a considerable amount of time and money in our food and beverage areas. Tennis play continues to in crease and there are options to play in a variety of events. Pickle ball, which is one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S, contin ues to gain players every Wednes day night starting at 6 pm.

Everyone is encouraged to try this activity, since you may find it easy to play and simply a lot of fun. Cornhole toss continues to have a good turnout of players every Wednesday night in the patio area of the Club, weather permitting. As the weather warms up, we

hope to see you enjoying yourself at one or more of our $20+ mil lion dollars’ worth of amenities. The deadline for this article is February 10th, so this is an update for members based on that date. The deadline to submit information for the April Diamondhead News is March 10TH.
