President’s Report

For December 2022

As of December 1, 2022, your green and white ID card is no longer valid. We have been reminding everyone of this change for the last several months. If you’re a member in Good Standing, go to the con cierge desk in the lobby of the Club to have a new card made. There is no cost for the new card and the desk is manned during regular business hours M – F and also 9-12 noon on Saturday and Sunday. You can use the picture that’s already on file or supply a new picture. The new card has a magnetic strip on the back that allows us to scan your account for upto-date information. If you’re a member in Good Standing you automatically receive a discount on items that you purchase. The NEW card will be required for entrance to the pools next swimming season. Information on the new cards will be updated every night to reflect any change in status of your account.

Annual dues have NOT IN CREASED and, if you pay the

total of $646 before the end of the business workday on Janu ary 31, 2023, you will receive $40 of credits that will appear on your account. When scan ning your new ID card in or der to pay for a purchase, the credit will appear, and you can use the credit to help pay for the purchase. This will elim inate the use of the four $10 gift cards that were used in the past.

The POA owns the land, building and contents of the Lazy Gator. The POA is re quired by the “Takeover Agreement” to have a restau rant in that area. The “Take over Agreement” is the doc ument that outlines what the developer turned over to the POA years ago. It’s possi ble that there will be a name change of this facility by the time you read this. The build ing has needed various updates for several years and the POA recently started repairs and re modeling at a cost of around $90,000.

If you pay your annual 2023 fees for golf, tennis or pickle ball by the end of the workday on December 15, 2022, the fee is the same as the 2022 listed fee. This does not apply to the trail fee. Annual membership fees, in their respective catego ry, have increased minimally to help cover inflation costs. If you pay through ACH install

ments, this will automatically continue, and monthly rates will adjust per the 2023 fee schedule. Our annual mem bership fees are still one of the best values in the country.

Golf credits in the Pro Shop will not carry over to 2023. The last day to spend the cred its is December 26, 2022. The 12 Days of Christmas Sale in the Pro Shop will run from De cember 6 – 17.

dh gEaux hiKing cluB News for December, 2022 Deck the halls with boughs of holly as you enjoy this festive holiday season!

The DH Geaux Hiking Club has managed to get in a few hikes along with this year’s celebrations. We went back to Fountainebleau and enjoyed ourselves once again (October is the best time of year for hik ing) and “pigged out” at Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen after the hike… and, as Elmer would say, it was “vewry vewry good!”

But, sadly, our overnight trip to Avery Island got rained out. Stay tuned for the date of the rescheduled trip. And, um… yes… we lied… we did not go to Red Bluff… again… ( sigh…) That hike got re- re-scheduled… now to December 1 (it’s a long story…) But we’re really gonna go… promise… uh, unless the leader has to change the date or the weather doesn’t cooperate, or we come up with another rea son not to go…

Sooo, instead of Red Bluff on November 10, we did a lil’ stroll along the beach in Pass Christian. And the weather was perfect! And it was maybe the last “really really nice day” un til next Spring. Afterwards, we had lunch at the ‘lil dive diner (shack?), Sea Level, right there on the beach. We had fish ta cos (these got the Linda, Tobey, Deborah and Marian “seal of ap proval”) and also found the chilli dog and burger & hand-cut fries to be above average, too! While we lunched, we also enjoyed the extremely cool (and up-close) company of a Blue Heron, who had to work a bit harder to get his meal. Kali, Linda’s very welltrained Border Collie, kept a close eye on the bird for us.

On December 14, we’ll travel to the zoo in Hattiesburg, MS., where we’ll walk around and

look at the animals and then stay to see the holiday light dis play after dark. We’ll have din ner somewhere in Hattiesburg before returning to Diamond head. For more details on this hike, please check out our DH Geaux Hiking Club Facebook Page or come to our monthly planning meeting on Tuesday, December 6, Kanaka Room, DH Country Club at 6:00pm.

Diamondhead Boaters Asso ciation celebrates Halloween Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Bee tlejuice…said it three times and multiple Betelgeuse’s appeared at the fantastic Halloween event chaired by Joanne and Hank

Fried and their committee on Saturday October 29. The theme of the night was derived from the 1988 fantasy horror come dy film. The Fried’s committee, which included Al and Sylvia Corban, Eddie and Therese Mauterer and Stephen and Kris tin Hooks were costumed as the characters in the movie repre senting not only Betelgeuse, but Adam and Barbara Maitland the “ghost owners” and the new owners, the Deetz family, in

cluding Lydia. The movie itself was streamed during the party.

It was a tremendous turn out of Boater members with almost 140 guests dressed in various costumes including scary clowns, Stick People, Dis ney’s beloved Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Mustard & Ketchup, Riverboat employees and gnomes. Costumes did not hamper anyone’s dance moves as the band Southern Voice packed the dance floor.

The costumes this year were amazing, both creative and imaginative. The judges found it quite difficult to select win ners in the Best Costume event, but both Dinah and Ernie Kno bloch individually claimed the prizes for the Best Man and Woman’s costume dressing as Beetlejuice characters. The Best Dressed Group Award went to the cast of Snow White. But, the Stick People, which included the 2023 Krewe of Kamehameha Court were a very close second, with the Halloween committee receiving an honorable men tion. Either Mr. Knobloch or Mr. Mauterer could have served as Michael Keaton’s stand-ins as their resemblance to the charac ter was spot on.

Bill Roofner is the oldest, active golfer in DH as far as we know. He will be 96 years old on December 7, 2023 (Yes, he was born in 1927!) and made a Hole-in-One on #4 of the Cardinal on November 13, 2022. The hole was 95 yards long and he used a sand wedge to hit the shot. Maybe there’s hope for the rest of the golfers in DH.

Great golfing gals!!

Tuesday, October 18th, was to be our “All Par 3s” competition; howev er, mother nature had other plans and only a couple of brave souls turned out to play. So, there were not enough players to have a proper competition. On the 25th we sched uled our “Beat the Pro” competition. Heath Necaise went out to play the front nine of the Cardinal Course.

His gross score is posted and then 26 of our gals tried to beat that num ber using their Net Scores. What a day! 24 gals Beat the Pro gaining a “I beat the Pro” pin. Me thinks, Heath was going easy on our group. But then again maybe our gals are getting better each year.

No one scored a Chip-In but two gals had Birdies: Pauline Singer (hole #4) and Toni Rossol (hole #7).

Until next month as we look forward to cooler weather and more opportunities to hit that little white ball into the very small hole.

Keep hitting them long and straight. And, remember that old saying, “drive for show and putt for dough!”
