News from DPOA President By Ernie Knocloch
W
e have some good news to an nounce. The law suit involving the POA versus The Peoples Bank has been resolved and a settle ment reached. This process was started by previous Boards and they are thanked for their forwardlook ing thinking. The present Board continued the process and nego tiated a positive settlement for the POA. The settlement results in the POA receiving $1.125 million. After paying attorney fees and related expenses, the net amount that the POA received is $875,000. These funds will be held in a Reserve Account placed in a reputable bank/ financial institution. Access to these onetime funds will require Board approv al and the plan is to use these funds only for onetime capital expenditures, except in extraor dinary circumstances. The number of people eating/ drinking in Latitude 30 Grill & Patio, plus The Oak Room, con tinues to increase. If you wish to eat in The Oak Room, reservations are now suggested. This has resulted in a need for additional furniture and some updated equipment. Some of the kitchen equipment must be fabricated due to the design of our kitchen.
Additional chairs and tables for Latitude 30 have been or dered, but vendors are having a difficult time getting the materi als and then seem to be having additional problems in shipping large items due to a shortage of truck drivers. Hopefully, every thing will be received sometime in June. Various activities, including Trivia contests, special food events, music and karaoke are being held on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. If you’ve never tried one of the Sunday omelets, con sider giving it a try. You pick the ingredients that you want to include from a wide variety of choices, and it’s cooked in front of you. Most diners take enough omelet home to enjoy another breakfast. According to a local real estate broker, in April 2021, 31 single family homes were sold, nine condos and five townhouses. There are around 27 single family homes for sale, four con dos and one townhouse up for sale at the end of April. Prices for singlefamily homes range in price from $50,000 to $750,000 based upon location and types of construction. Buyers are coming from Cali fornia, Texas, Louisiana, the midwest and the northeast. Just a few years back, there were 300plus properties for sale. Both tennis and golf usage

continue to increase. There have been golf groups from all over the U.S. who have played here. I try to welcome as many visiting golf groups as I can. The leader of a group of about 40 golfers from Texas said that one of the reasons that they enjoy coming here is because residents go out of their way to talk to the players when they see them. Just thought that was an interesting comment. Summer camps are available for both tennis and golf. Specific tennis information can be ob tained thru the tennis facility at East Rec and golf information is available thru the Pro Shop. Several residents have crit icized the POA for allowing cer tain homes to be built in close proximity to the water tower. The land in question was not originally platted by the devel oper. The POA has never had any legal relationship with those parcels of land and is not re sponsible for development in that area. According to a recent con versation with the Hancock County Assessor, property value from Diamondhead is approxi mately 26% of the entire proper ty value in Hancock County. If you removed some of the industrial areas, such as Port Bienville, from the equation, Diamondhead would generate an even higher percentage of the total value in Hancock County. Ella Nolan will represent our
community in the DeepSea Fishing Rodeo Princess Pageant this year. The rodeo occurs around July 4 and the Club at Diamondhead will host a breakfast for all of the contestants, including interviews for local TV. Congratulations and good luck to Ella and her par ents. This is just a reminder that the POA is responsible for super vising and maintaining proper ties estimated to be worth be tween $15$20 million. Obviously, these amenities
add to the value of our commu nity and property values. Look around at home construction and the small number of homes for sale. Realtors will tell you that our amenities play a significant part of why new residents choose Diamondhead as a location for their home. In my opinion we don’t want to lose property values so it’s important for all of us to pay our fair share of dues on a timely basis in order to maintain every thing that we have at this time.
