OF POA OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS In accordance with our bylaws, an election for Officers and Directors will be held in conjunction with our annual membership meeting on Saturday June 18, 2016. Officer positions have a two year term, Director terms are for four years. This year in addition to the four Officer positions there are three Director positions up for election. In accordance with the bylaws, any member in good standing who is at least 21 years of age may serve as an Officer or Director.

If you are interested in serving your community and working to improve the Property Owners Association, you may pick up an election package at the POA offices. The deadline for candidate registration is April 1, 2016. Any propositions to go on the ballot must be submitted by April 1st as well.

By John Fletcher Mardigras has passed and lent has started. Valentine’s Day is next Sunday. I say this to give you an idea of when this written.

The major event was the reopening of the Harbor House Friday February the 12th. Your board has been accused of flying by the seat of its pants due to the cost of repairing the Floor in the Kitchen and restrooms. First I am a pilot and good pilots “Fly by the seat of their pants” so I consider this a compliment. We become one with our aircraft and feel it’s every motion so as to anticipate the corrections needed to keep it flying. Much the same happened with the Harbor House in the way we repaired the water damaged floor. Let’s investigate the events leading up to the damaged floor.

First, originally the floor was planned to be constructed out of concrete. Since this put the project way over budget a previous board approximately 10 years ago, elected to have it constructed out of wood.

Some years ago it was found the floor was deteriorating so a band aid was applied that did not solve the problem. So the present board, fearing that the floor would collapse, and someone injured, elected to properly correct the problem. Replacing the floor with treated trusses, and sealing it with a welded membrane was seen to be the only possible economically feasible solution, so this was done at great expense. We considered using a concrete floor but we were told the entire structure would have to be reengineered and the cost would costprohibitive. So we elected to stay with the present type construction except to seal the floor so water could not destroy it. Was this the correct solution? Only time will tell. Watch to see if it keeps flying. And, by the way, the Termite Contract (with no replacement clause) was in effect for years before this board came into being. The Termite Company, after inspecting the repairs that were done to the building) has agreed to offer us a contract with Replacement Coverage in the event of future Termite damage and we have secured same.

The termites involved were Formosan, which fly into the structure, (they do not enter from the ground) and so were only detectable upon the disassembly of the building.

Next, I promised last month to examine the covenants and their transfer as concerns the general terms of this agreement. The intertwining of the covenants, the takeover agreement, and the bylaws is a very complex method of self-government, so bear with me as I try to make some sense of it.

Diamondhead So, we have three basic documents determining the governing of the Diamondhead POA: the covenants, the takeover agreement, and the DPOA bylaws. The first is primary because the covenants were the first attempt at establishing self-rule, and the takeover agreement transferred the covenants to the DPOA. It can be argued that the DPOA must enforce the covenants because they agreed to do this in the Takeover Agreement.

But on the other hand the penalty for non-enforcement is simply that Purcell would then have the right of first refusal to purchase back all the amenities from the DPOA. Think they want them back? Actually all of the amenities were promised to purchasers of Real Estate in Diamondhead

by Purcell. Their transferring this entire obligation to the DPOA relieved Purcell of the obligation of maintaining the Amenities. Smart move. Now the property owners, thru their dues, shoulder the burden of maintaining the amenities, that were promised to them when they purchased their property. And Purcell kept the right to vote in DPOA election, other than for DPOA Officers, without paying dues.

So it boils down to this. The Bylaws are connected to the Takeover agreement, the Takeover agreement is connected to the Covenants, the Covenants are connected to the Purcell Corp., and Purcell is connected to the property owner’s property. Also, when the City was formed it was touted that the City would provide most of the services then provided by the DPOA. Actually only maintenance and ownership of the streets and security have been transferred to the City. In all fairness the City did adopt ordinances and building codes quite similar to the Diamondhead POA Covenants and bylaws making conflicts minimal.

Thus we have 2 forms of Govern-

ment, the City’s and the DPOA’s not to mention County, State, and Federal Government. I suggest that we are over governed. Also what happens in 2020, when most of the Covenants are set to expire? We can’t wait until 2020 to solve this problem.

Therefore we have discussed on a novel approach to the solution to this problem. Let the DPOA Members vote on the fate of the Covenants. I will keep you informed on when this will take place. Next month I will examine the case of what happens if the Covenants are not extended. As always I welcome any suggestions.

FROM THE DESK OF THE GENERAL MANAGER Work progresses on 2016 projects, the new Administrative offices are continuing on schedule with an anticipated transition to the new spaces mid-April. The Harbor House Restaurant repairs are complete, the contractor was able to meet the time line established to minimize down time for the tenant. As usual with repair project there were a lot of surprises that resulted in additional expenses. A full report on what caused the issues and what was done during the repairs to prevent recurrence in the future will be published at a later date. The Country Club pool and East Rec pool are presently being replastered, these projects are scheduled to be completed in time for the start of pool season on May 1st. Work has commenced to upgrade the Country Club pool bathrooms, new paint and fixtures, and air conditioning are the main focus of the project. The Grounds crew is finishing work on the baseball fields at East Rec and a contractor is making a small addition

The January edition of the Newsletter had the year in review article to summarize 2015 accomplishments, this edition has a summary in photos of the projects we completed last year. Quite a lot if you think about it. Also in this edition is more information regarding the upcoming POA elections. Election packets are available at the POA offices and a reminder, the deadline for candidate submission is Midnight April 1st. And for those that are not aware of the change, Absentee Ballots will be accepted in addition to proxies for those unable to attend on election day.

Revenue for the month was $100,162 above the budgeted $594,227; Cost of Goods Sold was $3,803 over budget and Operating Expenses were $43,555 above the budgeted $403,830.

For fiscal year 2015 (Year-to-Date), the POA has an Operating Profit of $1,574,642 resulting in a Net Income of $826,951 after depreciation, which is $642,645 more than was budgeted for the period. Revenue for the year was budgeted with membership assessments of $60 per month, while actual billing has been $65 per month. Operating Expenses (Year-to-Date) are $1,574 below those of the same period last year.

PUBLIC SERVICES FROM THE DESK OF FIRE CHIEF JERRY DUBUISSON Please, Dial 911 for ALL emergencies in, or near Diamondhead. We ask that you do not try to call the Fire Station directly to report an emergency, as all emergency calls should be routed through our county-wide Dispatch center. We’ve seen instances in which folks drive to the Station to report an emergency, and that wastes valuable time. For any non-emergencies, you can call our Dispatchers 24-hours a day at 228-255-9191. During the month of February, we responded to 76 emergency calls throughout Diamondhead, and once again, the majority of those emergencies were medically-related incidents.

On average, every 9 hours and 10 minutes you, or one of your neighbors had a serious emergency that required assistance from our Firefighters &/or EMT’s.

Speaking of Emergencies, will our crews be able to locate your home if you need us in a hurry?

Are your house numbers clearly and prominently displayed, and can we see them from the street, at night? Everybody knows (or they should know) that the simple act of buckling your seatbelt can reduce injuries and even save your life in a car crash. However, we regularly see people who have chosen not to wear their seatbelt and were involved in an accident. At high speeds, and even at low speeds,

unrestrained occupants get thrown around inside a car, resulting in unnecessary injuries. Worse than being thrown around inside the car is being ejected! Several of us (Firefighters, Law Enforcement Officers, and Paramedics) have seen the gruesome results of such accidents, and the sad thing is that if seatbelts had been worn, injuries and death could have been prevented. All of us at DFD ask you to take an extra second to click that seatbelt every time you get into a car. Besides, it’s the law. Personnel Update…. Congratulations to Lieutenant George Lear as he completes his 15th year of service with DFD this month…Good job, Sir.A couple of weeks ago, DFD had some of our equipment inspected and tested by a UL-certified independent company. This is part of our annual equipment safety and maintenance program, and during this phase, all of our ladders (aerial and ground) were subjected to nationally accepted, standardized testing. This equipment, which is vital to us as we serve the community, is usually very expensive, so we try to maintain it in the best possible condition. As a reminder, Outdoor (Open) Burning…is only allowed under certain circumstances! The City

has adopted Ordinance #2012-023 regarding those circumstances and restrictions, and that Ordinance can be reviewed on the City’s website or at City Hall. Basically, it says that you can only burn clean, dry, seasoned firewood, and only in an outdoor fireplace, or a fire pit.

A third option allows the burning of scrap wood at construction sites (for the purpose of creating heat for the crew) in a burn barrel.

The Ordinance requires that an approved method of extinguishing the fire must be located within 25feet of the fire, and there is a maximum fine of $250.00, plus court costs, for violations. Our Monthly Business Meetings…are scheduled for the third Thursday of each month at 9:00am in the Conference Room of Fire Station #1, located at 4440 Kalani Drive. Notices are posted in the lobby of the Business Office at Station 1. These meetings are always open to the public, and if you’d like to be on the agenda, please try to call us or stop by at least a few days in advance. This allows us to prepare any documents, or to research an issue for you in advance, so that it can be fully discussed at the meeting. If you have comments, concerns, or questions, but are unable to attend one of our meetings, feel free to communicate those to us (preferably in writing) and we’ll have our Commissioners address the topic, and then provide feedback to you afterward.

COMMUNITY ST. THOMAS EPISCOPAL CHURCH St. Thomas Episcopal Church invites all to our Sunday services at 8 AM or 10 AM. We will be having a Lenten program that began on February 17th and continues through March 16th.

The program follows our worship service at 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday. A soup and salad meal will be provided. The subject is “What Do You Value The Most in Your Life.”

John Wesley Diamondhead United Methodist Church will be hosting an Easter Egg Hunt on the church grounds on March 26th at 10:00 a.m. for the community. A pancake breakfast will also be served to anyone who wishes to join us prior to the hunt at 9:00 a.m. Bring your kids and their baskets for a wonderful event!

Our Good Friday service will be at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary.

READY OR NOT-I’M COMING BACK…..Jesus “RISEN” is the name of a new movie. It portrays the most important event in human history-the death and resurrection of Jesus. It tells the story of the Resurrection as experienced by a Roman soldier, an atheist, who is given the job of figuring out what happened to Jesus after the crucifixion. Can’t have any stories of a risen Jesus inciting the masses! He slowly learns what Jesus and His mission were-could one man bring down the Roman Empire?? “How can this be?”, asks the soldier.

Let’s think about this…all other religious leaders throughout time have been buried somewhere.

Buddha in Sri Lanka, Confucius in China, Muhammad in Saudi Arabia, Moses in Jordan, Joseph Smith in Illinois, Martin Luther in Germany, and on and on. But Jesus Christ?

Several theories have been advanced as to what happened to Jesus’ body. Stolen by his

enemies-but never revealed to stop the spread of Christianity?? Stolen by friends-but why keep preaching and risking their lives for a hoax??

Jesus didn’t really die on the cross, He was just unconscious when buried and woke up and rolled back the huge stone and fought off the guards? Really?? Even the Romans didn’t buy this one. Only explanation that works-God raised Jesus as foretold. He was seen after his death by lots of people.

Check out the gospels of Luke 24, verses 13 to 22, and Mark 16, verses 12 and 13.

GERONTOLOGIST TO CONDUCT FREE MEMORY SCREENINGS Event Stresses Importance of Proper Detection Individuals can take advantage of free, confidential memory screenings as part of Community Memory Screenings and Awareness-Raising Education (AFA C.A.R.E.S.), an initiative of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) to promote early detection and intervention for those concerned about memory loss as well as to educate the public about successful aging. to assess memory. They do not diagnose any illness, but the results can indicate whether someone should follow up with a comprehensive medical examination. Not all memory problems are related to Alzheimer’s disease. Some cognitive changes are normal aging or are have other causes. Lifestyle changes—diet, stress management, physical and mental exercise—can help people age successfully. The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America is a New York-based national nonprofit organization focused on care for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related illnesses, and their families.

SPCA OF DIAMONDHEAD MS INC. Question I’ve heard often lately – where is the SPCA located? The SPCA of Diamondhead is a group of volunteers who work out of their houses, use their own cell phones and drive their own vehicles – all in the work of helping animals.

We have a phone number that is answered by a volunteer. We have an email address that is managed by a volunteer. We have volunteers who use their own vehicles to pick up and chauffer feral cats that have been trapped to be neutered. We have foster families who take of animals until the owners can be located.

We are always looking for volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering, send us an email or give us a call. There is a job for everyone, no matter your skill set.

We have started another fund raising program. Claiborne Hills grocery in Waveland will donate a percentage of food bills to local charities. We are collecting receipts from Claiborne Hills grocery for the SPCA of Diamondhead. Betty Maxwell has volunteered to collect these receipts at her office, Coldwell-Banker realtors located on E. Aloha Dr. Amazon.com also has a program that allows purchasers to designate their favorite charity to receive a percentage of the amount spent with Amazon.

CLUBS VFW POST 2880 Donald E. Ball, Adjutant The VFW Post 2880 monthly meeting was held on 3 February 2016. The meeting was called to order by Post Commander David Motz with the Pledge Of Allegiance to our flag and opening prayer by Chaplin Robert Garrett.

Commander Motz announced that Post 2880 has formed an alliance with the Boy Scout Troop of Diamondhead. He and Chaplin Garrett recently visited the Troop and briefed the scouts on proper procedures to retire the American Flag. The visit proved to be well received. The scouts were eager to learn and were invited to attend our next flag retirement ceremony.

Post members voted to discontinue our monthly donation to the Wounded Warrior Foundation of America due to unfavorable publicity regarding spending practices of the foundation.

Junior Vice Commander briefed the Post on the upcoming Memo-

rial Day Celebration, the annual VFW Golf tournament on 17 September and the VFW Crawfish boil on 11 May at the Twin Lakes pavilion.

Congratulations to Bob Hill who was presented an Appreciation Award for his hard work and dedication with the Post “Poppy” program. Commander Motz announced that State VFW Commander Steve Irvin will visit us on 25 February.

It was also announced that our Homeless program is going well.

We recently furnished sheets, air mattresses, sweepers, pots and pans to local needy veterans . This a primary mission of Post 2880 and we will continue to monitor this program closely. Let us keep our hearts open. The meeting adjourned with closing prayer and salute to the flag.

Her majesty Queen Barbara Zitzmann received a basket of Spa goodies donated by our guest speaker Rachel Bidwell of Renewing Touch Therapies Day Spa. Her maids were Darlene Walters, Sandy Price, Dinah Knobloch, and Kim White who each received a red rose as a token of their Royalty. The members had a great time as they viewed the decorations which a number of ladies brought home as prize winners.

Our guest speaker, Rachel Bidwell, treated the membership to an explanation of the various types of massage offerings, facials, AntiAging methods, Aroma therapy, deep tissue massages for various

ailments including those related to sports, manicures, pedicures, Hot Stone massages, and facials. Besides this informative presentation, a chair massage was awarded to a lucky member. The membership truly enjoyed the presentation by Rachel. We thank her for expanding our views of Spa possibilities.

9th Olympus Queens’ Luncheon Past Queen’s from the Krewe of Olympus welcomed new Queen Hera IX Pat Robertson by treating her to lunch at the Great Southern Club in downtown Gulfport on Friday the 10th of February. This tradition started our second year by treating and welcoming the new reigning Queen to the Queen’s fold. We are now in our 9th year of celebrating the new Queen by taking her at the Great Southern Club which has the most spectacular views,

special service, and great food. A champagne toast was made to Queen Pat and a delicious lunch was enjoyed by all. A special thank you to King George Baker for presenting a lovely bejeweled Queen votive to each lady in attendance, and to Queen Shirley for filling it with special chocolates.

We are all excited about the upcoming year which will celebrate the Krewe of Olympus tenth year, and our number ten Queen yet to be announced.

BOATERS BRING BRIGHT LIGHTS OF BROADWAY TO BALL

By Sue W. Foster The Diamondhead Krewe of Kamehameha celebrated its annual Mardi Gras Ball under the bright lights of the Great White Way, honoring King Akua Kai the 41st, Ron Rech, and Her Royal Majesty, Queen Paula Gonzalez, with all of the glamor and glitz of New York’s famed theater district.

The ballroom was elegantly decorated in black, silver, and white, with silver bows accenting the black-covered chairs. At each table setting there were programs and miniature bottles of wine for each guest, courtesy of the King and Queen. The talented Pam Marshall created an enormous skyline of New York City for the stage backdrop, setting the tone for the evening that began when Ex-Officio Commodore Harry LaCoste introduced Master of Ceremonies, Chuck Ingraham.

MC Ingraham entered the ballroom replete in top hat and tails, sauntering to the podium surrounded by a bevy of beautiful show girls in red fringe and white feather boas, as dashing, debonair, and downright good lookin’ as Cary Grant ever hoped to be.

Visiting royalty from the Krewes of Selene, Diamondhead, and Olympus were introduced as were past royalty from the Krewe of Kamehameha and members of the Royal Order of the Dolphin in attendance. Family and guests of the King and Queen were also recognized and included Sue Foster of Diamondhead and Doug Shaw of Clinton, North Carolina; Rick and Stacy Gonzalez, Dr. Louis and Susan Gonzalez Passauer and Margaret Joly of Covington, LA; Brad and Mariland Hendley of Madison, MS; Christopher Yaniga of Kiln MS and Kirby Rhodes of Bay St. Louis, MS; Kellie Miller Delattre and her daughters Ashley and Alyssa from New Orleans, LA; and from Diamondhead, Joe and Judy Lakota, Terri Downie and Helen Taylor, and Jack and Leslie O’Neill. Also in attendance were the Queen’s grandchildren, Caitlin Gonzalez, Ryne Passauer, and Reid Passauer.

The Royal Court was presented and entered the ballroom, almost dancing down the aisle to their favorite Broadway show tunes amid rousing rounds of applause: Duke Wayne Cooper and Maid Peggy Cooper—“I Could Have Danced

All Night” from My Fair Lady; Duke Val Miller and Maid Barbara Miller—“Oh, What A Night” from Jersey Boys; and Lady-in-Waiting Bobbie Yaniga-Brown and Equerry Dick Brown—“You’re the One That I Want” from Grease. The maids wore beautiful black gowns with beading, black gloves, rhinestone headbands, and carried black and silver Mardi Gras masks.

The introduction of the King and Queen was the next order of business: King Ron and Queen Paula received a most royal welcome as they entered the ballroom to the familiar strains of “If Ever I Cease to Love” and proceeded to the stage, followed by Royal Trainbearers Masters Chase Gonzalez and Roth Passauer. Queen Paula was stunning in a white chiffon gown with gold applique’ and beading and King Ron just as handsome in white tails—both adorned with their glittering crowns and mantles.

Upon reaching the stage, King Ron read his delightful royal proclamation, wishing “success for all who traverse the fairways of Diamondhead in their fiberglass chariots” and included “swift and accurate serves and returns” for the tennis players, “unlimited visibility and safe landings” for those who fly, “winning hands” for the card players, “calm waters and…abundant

catches” for boaters, in addition to a salute to the past year and the New Year. Toasts were offered by King Akua Kai the 40th Fred Dack and King Ron, followed by the first dance led by King Ron and Queen Paula to “Memories” from the Broadway musical, Cats.

The King, Queen, and the Royal Court were escorted to chairs lining the dance floor for their Orchestra seats for viewing the show that was the highlight of the evening.

Under the direction of the incomparable Mary Mizell, the fabulous Broadway Entertainers danced and mimed to some of the biggest Broadway hits ever! Performing to “Another Opening, Another Show” from Kiss Me Kate were Leslie O’Neill, Barbara and Ken Quebedeaux; Charlie Hense, Dorothea Kolf and Gayla Torguson were hilarious with “Beauty School Dropout” from Grease; “Hey Big Spender” from Sweet Charity showcased Suzy Fair, Joann Fried, Pam Hense, Dinah Knobloch, Mary Mizell; “There is Nothing Like a Dame” from South Pacific sported a cast of the roughest and toughest sailors from the high seas around the Bay of St. Louis and in-

cluded Hank Fried, Ernie Knobloch, Pat Laird, Jack O’Neill, Jim Ross, and Larry Torguson; Marcia Frisina, Pam Marshall and Audrey Ramirez reprised their fan favorite interpretation of “Dancing Queen” from Momma Mia; and all participated in the grand finale of “There’s No Business Like Show Business” from Annie Get Your Gun. The show was outstanding and a huge hit with Court and “Commoner” alike.

One can only wonder who, other than the members of the Carnival Krewes of Diamondhead, Mississippi, could possibly have more fun!

training in restaurant, job, and life skills. Along with learning culinary skills, they also learn anger management techniques, financial literacy skills and enjoy mentoring by professionals in the service industry. These skills help them to find jobs in the industry upon completion of the program. An escrow account for each student is set up where they receive $100 per week, but it is only redeemable in the year following their graduation from the program. The program receives no government funding.

Its financial demands are met from sales at the restaurant and private donations. We encourage everyone to patronize the café and support this wonderful effort!

On Wednesday March 2nd, we start at 11:00 with socializing and meeting guests and new members.

Our guest speaker will be Tish Williams, Executive Director of the Hancock County Chamber of Commerce. She will get us up to speed on current events in the county and tell us how the chamber helps to promote Diamondhead in regard to tourism. By Peggy Glynn, Director We all enjoyed having our “King Cake” Mardi Gras party and second-line dancing at the Welcome Center to greet our out-of-town visitors. Our group would like to have some new friends to join us for line-dancing to old and new songs. We have been doing this and socializing together for many years. Our class is on Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. til 6:45 pm. in the Community Center.

DIAMONDHEAD GARDEN CLUB Members and guests were treated to a flower arrangement design workshop presented by flower show judge and DHGC member Brierley Acker at the February meeting. The Diamondhead Garden Club will be staging a flower show at the April 20th meeting at the Diamondhead Country Club.

Members of the Diamondhead Garden Club as well as the BayWaveland Garden Club will exhibit floral arrangements in 4 different categories in the design portion of the show. Various exhibits of plant life including flowers, shrubs, trees and others will be featured in the horticulture section of the show.

Mississippi Extension Service will be our guest at the March 16th meeting held at 9:30 a.m. at the Diamondhead Country Club Emerald I ballroom. He will be discussing fire ant control in the garden.

Guest speaker was Judge Jennifer Schloegel 8th District Chancery Judge. Judge Schloegel explained the workings of the Chancery judge court.

The next meeting will be Thursday March 3, at the Diamondhead Country Club. 11:00 am for buffet lunch with meeting starting promptly at 12:00 noon. Speaker will be National GOP Committeewoman from Mississippi Jeannie Luckey to explain the precinct, county and state caucuses.

TENNIS/YOUTH TENNIS WORLD SPRING LEAGUES League season is now in full swing. With 14 teams playing out of Tennis World it is important to remember to book your courts. The court resurfacing has been approved by the board, we plan on starting in mid-April . this will probably be a two week project, at least 4 courts will be available for play at all times. Our next junior tournament is scheduled for March 12th. This is an entry level tournament for all age groups, 10 and under thru 18 and under.

By Joan Parmelee Kudos to Steve Garman, who is entering his 19th year as Tennis Director at Diamondhead’s Tennis World. Steve was born in Sussex England and has been the top tennis player in the State of Mississippi for the past ten years.

He is currently ranked SIXTH in the State.

Kudos to Andrew Garman, Steve’s 22-year-old son, who is currently ranked FIRST in the State. Andrew was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and is an assistant teaching pro at Tennis World. He is currently playing the Futures Circuit which is the entry level for the pro tour.

Kudos to Matt Garman, Steve’s 28-year-old brother, who is currently ranked SECOND in the State. Matt has been the head teaching pro at Tennis World for the past six years.

We are indeed fortunate to have the Garman men in our midst in Diamondhead and having them as teaching pros at our own Tennis World here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Congratulations to Steve, Matt, and Andrew on all of your fine accomplishments over the years!

SPORTS DIAMONDHEAD GOLF Chris Altese, PGA Head Golf Professional Spread the word! Please help us spread the good word about golf in Diamondhead. We continue to hear all of our golfing guests, from near and far, compliment Diamondhead Country Club on our service, hospitality, facilities, golf course conditioning, and our community as a whole. While many golf facilities around the country are trying to figure out their secret for success, Diamondhead CC has been seeing an uptrend but it will take all of us that love Diamondhead to share the good news and keep the momentum going in our favor.

March. The PGA Tour Champions Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic Qualifiers are again being held on our Pine course on March 25th and March 29th. We also will be hosting the Diamondhead High School

Golf Invitational, the first high school major championship of the season, on March 1st. These events along with a few others and the increased activity from snowbirds should make for a busy month.

Would you like to help? Help Diamondhead leave an impression by getting involved. Whether it be playing in the pro-am, sponsoring, or volunteering during the event, we need your help and all of our community’s support. Call or stop by the DCC Golf Shop to get more information on how you can do your part! The opportunities to help are plentiful. The PGA Tour Champions Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic is a first class event that needs our help. If you did not register to volunteer at Fallen Oak and you prefer to serve closer to home then keep in mind we will once again host the qualifiers for the PGA Tour Champions Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic on

March 25th and March 29th on the Pine golf course. Thanks to all of our residents and members, the Gulf States PGA and PGA Tour thoroughly enjoys coming back to Diamondhead and calling us as their second home.

Due to the weather we’ve only played a couple of time since the last article. In the POINTS format, the team of Charles Cangelosi, Bill Williams, Ernie Knobloch and Michael Cavataio led the scoring with a +13 followed by Gene Bordelon, Renny Pangan, Bill Roofner and Joe Murray with +8. Two teams earned money with scores of +6. They were John Sneddon, AJ Dilly, Ron Reach, Pat Laird and Val Miller, Robert Baker, Larry Popovich and a Ghost. There was a difference of 27 points between the first and last place team.

In another POINTS format the team of Charles Cangelosi, Ernie Knobloch, Pat Laird and a Ghost led with a team score of +19. Pat Laird recorded a +10, Charles Cangelosi + 9 and, since Ernie Knobloch recorded a score of -8 that day, it’s obvious that the Ghost played really, really well. The second place team posted a +18

the Ghost must have played well.

The best individual scores during the month were posted by Val Miller (+10), Pat Laird (+10), Charles Cangelosi (+9), Jim Brown (+8) Bill Williams (+8) and Warren Alexander (+8). No one won the Closest to the Flag competition more than once.

In the early results for money won in 2016, Charles Cangelosi is in the lead ($32) followed by Chick Baerson ($27), Val Miller ($26), AJ Dilly ($22), Gene Bordelon ($20) and Dutch Vandervort ($20).

So far in 2016 no player has more than one win in the Closest to the Flag competition.

Rules Question—I hit my approach shot into a bunker and the ball stopped on top of a rake. What can I legally do? Bunker rakes are considered movable obstructions. Per Rule 24-1b, you must lift your ball from the rake, move the rake and then take a drop as near possible to the spot beneath its original position, and then play without a penalty.

During this time of the year we usually have a lot of snowbirds playing here. This is especially true since the courses are in good shape.

DIAMONDHEAD YOUTH BASEBALL OPENING CEREMONY ON MARCH 6TH There are some very exciting things happening for our youth here in Diamondhead.

The first one to mention is our Diamondhead Youth Baseball will be having its opening ceremony on Sunday March 6th. Damon Foy from the POA’s grounds maintenance and his crew have worked especially hard over the past few months getting the fields in tip top condition. The League would love to have

your support on opening day. Festivities will begin around 2:00pm. As soon as the game play is finished and the sun sets we will play a movie “The Rookie” on our outdoor movie screen. Concessions will be available for purchase all day. Please share this with your family and friends. It is going to be a wonderful day.
