Button Masala

- Button Masala is a brand with a unique technique of Joinery systems to make products and elimate stitching.

- The technique uses Rubber Bands and Buttons only to create the joineries and textures.

- The designer was inspired by hastily fastened shirt buttons and innovated the technique.

- The Brand promotes idea of Funtionality, Simplicity, Versatility and Inexpensiveness - Product Range includes Garments, Accessories, Home Decor and Utility wear.

- Anuj Sharma found Button Masala in 2009.

- Today he uses various exploratory materials like Plastic Balls, Paper cups, Plates etc as insert materials.

- Natural Fabrics like Khadi, Cotton, Raw Silk are majorly used but occasionally materials like plastic, Knits are also explored.

- Collabs and shows- Levi’s India, Multiple Lakme Fashion Weeks, Taiwan Design Expo 2011 - He says-’If you don’t make the garment with the AESTHETICS of INTENT, it doesn’t make sense.’.

The Dark Shades Protecting my eyes.

The Gushing waves crashing the stones My ears filled with the pleasant Noise.

Everything so nostalgic Like a dream in Sepia filter.

Just when I realized it was the dark brown shades I bought hours ago.

- The rust effect is given by soaking the garment in plain water of 8 hours.

- As the rusting develops over time , so will the garmnet.

-As it is buttoned it is Stretchable and hence can fit anyone.

-The skirt can also be worn as Tube top.

My Experience

Button Masala is a simple technique that can be learnt by anyone, but to learn it from the designer itself is a different experience.

It was a very fun yet knowledgeable experience to make explorations in class and see how different fabrics show up once buttoned.

As he said , most important aspect in your designs is your intent and I think learning that we could explore more and go beyond our limits.

Using unconventional materials along with the conventional ones to develop innovative textures was a new experience.

Regular feedbacks and presentations helped me keep up with regular progress and hence a final ensemble.
