ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION PLAN, SCOTTS VALLEY, CA PROJECT COST: $30K The Scotts Valley Active Transportation Plan provides a comprehensive set of strategies to ensure better options for biking and walking in Scotts Valley. Interest in walking and biking for daily trips is growing among Scotts Valley residents and employees. Some students walk, bike, or skateboard to get to school. Scotts Valley is a destination for recreational bike trips, both for road cycling and on the Glenwood Preserve mountain bike trails. Some residents walk or bike to work, and some use active transportation for daily errands or trips to the park or library.

As an assistant transportation planner, I prepared design recommendations, citywide maps and conducted transportation data analysis. I was also involved in public engagement efforts.

ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION PLAN, PATTERSON, CA PROJECT COST: $99K The City of Patterson is developing an Active Transportation Plan (ATP) which will focus on non-motorized forms of travel, promote the use of pedestrian and bicycle facilities, identify challenges to the current non-motorized network, propose improvement solutions, identify potential funding sources, and provide substantial conformance with the other plans and policies.

I am leading the public engagement efforts by preparing presentations at the community workshops and stakeholders' meetings. I am involved in the preparation of the final Plan. I assisted in identifying the potential projects and programs that can help achieve Patterson’s vision of becoming a walking and bicycle-friendly city.

ENVISION PITTSBURG GENERAL PLAN UPDATE ,PITTSBURG, CA

PROJECT COST: $150K The General Plan update addresses a range of important community topics like land use, housing, economic development, transportation, parks and recreation, public safety, and more. As a transportation planning task lead, I was responsible to address the circulation component of the General Plan.

I assisted in developing guidelines that will support and complement existing and planned city’s mobility network. The goals of the Transportation Element include ensuring that transportation and land use decisions are coordinated, promoting the safe and efficient transport of goods, making efficient use of existing facilities, and protecting environmental quality.

OAKLEY GENERAL PLAN UPDATE, OAKLEY, CA PROJECT COST: $50K In this citywide focused general plan update, I helped in the development of existing condition report and maps. I also assisted in the development of VMT Strategies and Policy guidelines. The Plan update will include complete streets components, updated street classifications to incorporate multi-modal components. Opportunities for enhancing multi-modal mobility will be identified based on the existing conditions review, review of current plans, policies and planned improvements, and public input.

DINUBA COMPLETE STREETS PROGRAM, DINUBA, CA PROJECT COST: $59K Assisting in providing planning services for Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety and Connectivity Study. Tasks include developing a complete street policy that is contextualized for the City of Dinuba, planning a public outreach program with community meetings, and walk and bike tour, analyzing collision data, assessing existing conditions and generating reports. The project also involved the development of a neighborhood traffic calming program.

located in the City of Sunnyvale, with the intent of improving traffic circulation, providing a safer environment for pedestrian and bicyclists, enhance business vitality and creating an environment conducive to economic vitality. I assisted with calculation of capacity analysis along the roadway segments and identification of circulation loop alternatives.

METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION PLAN, ROCKFORD, IL PROJECT COST: $162K The Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) 2050 will address the transportation system in the Rockford Region, providing an innovative and sustainable framework for the region’s transportation network over the next 20 – 30 years. The purpose of this plan is to identify the region’s transportation vision, strategies, and priorities for the transportation system including highways, bridges, public transit, freight, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

As a metropolitan planner, I was involved in providing assistance with research, preparation of public engagement materials and data collection. Some of the public engagement maps for Downtown Rockford that were developed by me are shown here.

BICYCLE FACILITIES IN THE REGION

HISTORIC DOWNTOWN STREETSCAPE PLAN, CEDAR HILL The tiny settlement of Cedar Hill was established in 1846.

The streets around town square became the hub of local government, business and social activity, but the actual town square piece of property remained vacant for decades as a park. In the early 1900’s a thoroughfare was created that bisected the square diagonally and featured a landscaped median. In the 1940s a bandstand was constructed and the square served as the site for the annual fall festival that became Country Day on the Hill.

A Streetscape plan is a document which prescribes improvement and is prepared for the following reasons: 1. To provide adequate street amenities such as streetlights, benches, sidewalks, trees and landscaping.

2. To create and pedestrian-friendly environment and promotes business in historic downtown.

3. To reflect the community’s vision for the downtown.

GRAPHICAL INTERFACE FOR DEVELOPMENT APPLICATIONS City of Cedar Hill has a population of 44,470 (2012).

Statistically, it is more livable due to high median household and family income as compared to Texas and U.S. The purpose of this project is to identify graphical trends within the historical development application data from the city of Cedar Hill, Texas. In order to study this data, an interactive graphical interface is created by utilizing the capabilities of ArcGIS. This interface will integrate the Planning and Zoning development applications for the city into GIS. The application locations do not show a consistent proximity to areas of denser population distributions. Only when using a perspective from a very high altitude can you observe a general centroid within the densest applications. The application locations are mainly associated with local retail district. It is recommended to pay attention towards highway oriented developments.

This project is intended to come up with a land-use (zoning) map for the Joe Pool Lake Peninsula using ArcGIS. It is assumed that the area is undeveloped having some streets, water and sewer lines, along with a residential building. The purpose is to allocate six potential land uses Open Space, Single Family, and Multi- Family Residential, Commercial, Industrial, and Land-Fill.

The factors are primarily identified based on scope of the study. There can be many other factors that might affect the suitability of the land uses. In this project, we will be looking over the eight factors. These factors can be natural or man-made. The factors will be converted into common measurement units with the help of standardization rating technique. Finally, as the factors will not affect the suitability in equal manner, weights will be assigned to factors based on their impact on the respective land use. In the end, suitability maps will be prepared for each type of land use, which then will be overlaid on each other to come up with a land use map (Zoning Map).

METHODOLOGY

LAND SUITABILITY ANALYSIS – JOE POOL LAKE PENINSULA

ANALYSIS OF RED-LIGHT RUNNING, ARLINGTON AND GRAND PRAIRIE In August 2015, the City of Arlington officially shut down its red-light camera system following the referendum outcome that 59 percent of voters supported banning the cameras. This research attempts to find the effectiveness of the camera system in reducing crashes in Arlington by comparing it with ongoing Red-Light Camera enforcement in the neighboring City of Grand Prairie. The study conducts a paired T-test analysis to compare the before and after observation of crashes in the city of Arlington. Furthermore, the research intends to apply the theory of crash spillover effect in the study area in order to understand the impact of the termination of the red-light camera system. The crash spillover phenomenon in the study area is explained with the help of Optimized Hot Spot Analysis Method (using ArcGIS Mapping Cluster Toolset).

It is concluded that the number of increase in crashes was due to other factors instead of the shutting down of RLC program as there is no statistical difference in the change in crash density between Arlington and Grand Prairie. In addition, it is also observed that the commercial and industrial land uses are found in the proximity of major accident hotspots.
