Certainly, it would be absurd to deny the concrete specificity of a painting –frame, canvas, color, paint, touch and gesture of the outline – but the image forms the point of rupture within the assurance of this propriety, precisely because it carries with it the indication of gaze, the means by which the invasion of the outside will occur. If the history of painting has never stopped playing tricks with figuration, it is, without a doubt, in order to attain a maximum purity no longer interfered with the appeal of the outside.
