Welcome Fellow Cattlemen, Friends & Neighbors, Although this is our First Annual Production Sale; the Klompien Red Angus program is backed by 45 years of breeding for productive and functional cattle. Klompien Red Angus was established in 1990, when Dave & I (Kay) purchased all of the CK Red Angus replacements and leased the rest of the CK herd. Mom and Dad (Clint & Doris Kallestad) established CK Red Angus in 1968 – 45 years ago. The last 45 years have been committed to producing reputation cattle that are backed by integrity. We believe in longevity in our cattle and longevity in the business. You may notice the CEK prefix on a few of the bulls – these are owned by our daughter Kara. She continues the CK Red Angus legacy. Currently we run 160 mother cows and retain about 60 replacement heifers. The mama cow has always been the foundation of our program; from mothering traits, excellent udders, dispositions, calving ability with performance and structural soundness. Each cow is required to meet very high standards within the herd. We strive to continually improve our cattle with the help of new technology and new genetics. Problems (including feet, udders, attitudes, structure, fertility and calving) are simply eliminated. This philosophy increases the probability of buyer satisfaction; along with continuing to build the ultimate cow herd. The Klompien Red Angus herd is composed of well-balanced, maternal, and functional cattle. Extremes are avoided. We hold true to our slogan “Breeding the Best – Cutting the Rest”. Our calves are raised on their dam’s side with no creep. Since they were weaned last fall, they have been in the capable hands of Phil Veltkamp; where they have been fed a mixed, high-roughage ration with a target weight gain of 3 lb/day. This common sense program helps protect the feet of the bulls and also promotes their longevity. All bulls have been ultra-sound carcass tested; fertility tested and have met soundness exams. We are very pleased with this set of bulls and encourage your evaluation as well. The bulls are available, now through sale day, for your inspection at Veltkamp Livestock (where our sale will also be held). EPD Possible Change EPDs are predictions, and while an animal’s true genetic merit will never change, it is safe to assume that their EPDs may change from one calf crop to the next, as more information (i.e., progeny data) is evaluated. A possible change value is an estimation of the change potential (in trait units) for a given EPD. The true genetic value of each genetic prediction would be expected to fall within (plus or minus) one standard deviation 2/3 of the time. (The other 1/3 of the time, bulls EPDs could change more than one standard deviation.) The possible change chart (below) shows the potential variation in EPD values that could be observed at different levels of accuracy for the various traits. For all traits, as accuracy increases, the possible change value decreases and vice versa.

Klompien Red Angus Recipe 2013 Marinate for Beef-Kabobs ½ tsp garlic powder
2/3 cup soy sauce
2 tsp ground mustard
4 T water
2 T salad oil
2 lbs of Red Angus beef-kabobs
Marinate beef-kabobs for at least 6 hours. You can add peppers and other veggies on the grilling stick if desired. Happy Grilling!
