Biography

homas Adekunle Adetomiwa Sr AKA (Daddy-O, Big Daddy, Pastor, Tommy-ewa, Elder) was 63 years old. He passed away in Atlanta, Georgia on January 23rd, 2021.

He was born to the parents of Salimon Osuolale Adetomiwa & Fatimat Abeke Ajengbe Adetomiwa in Lagos Island, Nigeria on October 13th, 1957. His father’s lineage is from Owu Kingdom Abeokuta (Amororo compound, Akogun Oke). The reigning king now is a distant cousin of his. His mother’s lineage is from Akerin Ajengbe family (Agbole Akerin). He lived predominately at Moloney bridge street where he ran about and learned the lessons of life at a young age. He attended primary school at Victory School Oke Ado, Ibadan. He attended Fatima college Ikere, Osun State for high school/ secondary school. He impacted so many lives at that tender age, from being a joyous and hilarious person. Everyone from that time remembered him in that light and were happy to have known him. His nickname during that time was Tommyewa due to his love for beans made in any shape or form. He was that type of person that by simply just seeing him eat beans made people happy. His sister recalled during this time he had so many friends and was always embarking on so many adventures; some of which landed him in trouble with his mom several times. There was a time he went to a farm to enjoy some free corn, he loved agbado so much, let’s just say that story ended with him being chased out by the farmer.

There are too many stories to tell concerning his early life adventures. However even during his mischievous “boys will be boys” phase he was still a delight to everyone around him.

H

e unfortunately lost his father at 16 years of age. But that did not stop him from being a pillar of service to others and a solution center to everyone he met. His father worked predominately in oil and gas, building oil stations. Unaware to him at that time he developed that love for oil and gas later in life. While it was unfortunate his father passed, he then picked up the mantle of the head of the

house and did everything in his power to support his family while furthering his education. While working several jobs back home in Lagos he met a man who changed his destiny and enabled him to move to Houston, Texas, 1980. This all occurred while working in Nigerian National Oil Cooperation, now known as NNPC. Upon his arrival to Houston, Texas he began his undergraduate studies at the University of Houston while working three jobs fulltime. He did everything in life with so much vigor.

Business wise ,he started in real-estate, now over 25 years. Most of his clients have now become family members. He never approached anything with a mindset of money first. He would often give advice free of charge to anyone who needed help finding a home. He truly used this as a form of ministry as well. He understood the need of creating a home and more so creating a house filled with warmth and comfort. During this time his real passion resurfaced, and he started his own company called Texas global systems in 1990. Before he died, he was the chairman/CEO of Movido Exploration and Production Limited. He was making bounds and leaps in his businesses.

He really picked himself up by the “bootstraps” and continuously sought-after avenues to better his family’s life. One of those avenues was his walk with God.

He soon began to make it his dedication to spread the word of God to whomever he met. From preaching the gospel all over the globe from China, Kenya, South Africa, Belize, Comoros Island, Surinam and of course Nigeria. He dedicated his life to the works and assignments of God and everyday he made it his purpose for others to make heaven. Even during his hospitalization and last days of his life he was ministering to the medical staff. We recalled talking to the nurses at that time and they always made it a point to mention he was one of the easiest patient and always had a smile on his face. He never caused

...continued from page 2 them trouble and went out of his way to minister to them. There was one nurse who also played a kirk franklin song and attempted dancing with him while he was laying on the bed.

He was involved in several church planting in Surinam, Venezuela and in Houston, Texas. This man, this great man went about everywhere doing good. He was truly a bible teacher who taught the word of God with so much genuine passion and vigor. He truly took his baton and ran his race with reckless abandonment.

H

e met the love of his life during high school in Lagos Nigeria in 1975, He later married her in 1987, and they have been inseparable since. Out of the fruit of their loins, they gave birth to three beautiful children: Adebayo Anthony, Adedayo Oluwatosin, and Adekunle Thomas Jr. Adetomiwa. He loved and adored his wife and children very much and made sure they never lacked in anything that was needed. During his later years with his travels for work he made sure the family never lacked. He was a family man with family principles that impacted all things he did.

He called his wife countless times during the day while away and longed to see her. His love for her was and still is immeasurable.

They truly were 5&6, 7&8, 9&10. Best friends, lovers, confidants, prayer partners and business partners. There was nothing that was not discussed, and they tackled everything together.

He always adamant on having family meetings and ending them with a cup of tea nightly. We always joked that he was a tea connoisseur.

Daddy made sure the children had a relationship with God. The family meetings consisted of daily check ins, devotions, as well as praise and worship. He continuously impacted his children and to the glory of God they are doing well today. They are all in their own individual fields from Supply Chain Management & Procurement, Senior Digital Consultant, and Pediatrician.

his was a man who truly walked his life like Christ. 1 Corinthians 11: 1: Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

Romans 12: 9-18 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

I believe this is his wish for everyone. Let us all continue his honor by carrying on in his example.

I

got to know the Adetomiwa family when I started going to Houston, to see my daughter and granddaughters. Pastor Adetomiwa was an amazing man, and I was fortunate enough to get to know the kind, loving and generous soul he was. He loved his family dearly and he had a passion for the gospel and the church. That’s why it’s HARD to accept the death of someone so loved and cherished, like Pastor Adetomiwa, even more especially when you didn’t know that the last time you saw him was going to be the very last time you would see him again in this lifetime. This is what makes the grief and pain unbearable, but one thing we can be confident in is that, even though we mourn his passing, we do not mourn as one without hope, because I know he has gone to be with the lord, abiding forever in his presence. That is why it is with honor, I join the host of heaven to say Pastor Adetomiwa fought the good fight of faith, he finished his race and now a crown of life is laid before him. well done! thou good and faithful servant, Rest easy in the Lord.

TRIBUTE TO UNCLE TOMMY ADETOMIWA he news of your demise came as a rude shock. Words cannot describe this difficult moment, who are we to question God for calling you to glory at this time.

You were to me a very dear, one in a million Uncle ,an all-round pillar of support to my family ever since we relocated to the US. You were always there when I needed you, always going above and beyond to help. The door to your home was open anytime. You possessed the rare quality of lighting

up a room just by being there. You were humble, caring, kindhearted, loving, sweet ,thoughtful, gracious inside and out, a remarkable soul Sleep on dear Uncle and rest peacefully in the bosom of Jesus Christ whom you served and loved diligently to the end. It’s funny how you take people for granted thinking that they would always be there, I wish I had loved you more, I wish I had called you more, I wish I had spent more time with you whenever you were in Nigeria!!!!!

oo Soon…Elder Adetomiwa (For My Elder, Uncle, Father, Who Died at Age 63) I have an urge to say aloud, “You went too soon,” but then I think, What would that mean and who’s to say What too soon is? Well, it was way too soon for me. I still cannot believe you’re gone.

The world should have you in it still; It needs your love. Your smile was contagious and inviting.

It was too soon for us your friends, children and family.

Why should you die now when there are still many things we planned to do together.

It seems there is a plan in which your death occurred just when it should.

God could have kept you well or else Have healed you, no? Who can question God.

Somehow the ones you left behind Will be all right. I don’t know how.

It was too soon–much, much too soon– For all of us.

But it was just in time for you, And just in time for God, it seems.

And this I know: that something good Has come from it.

You left us with good legacy. Since you became born again, you never looked back. Your passion for souls was incomparable. God used you to plant many churches for the Redeemed Christian Church of God. You were instrumental in Firm Foundation Parish and opportunities you made possible for us in Nigeria.

Your death has made me want to love the way you And for that matter, you might not have come into loved. I feel a need to honor you by being kind, this dreary world at all, and yet you did and died As you were kind. Participate more in mission to Too soon for us. nations as you did. es, a few days before I got the dreaded call, you very clearly appeared to me, and in the name of the Most High, you were in high spirits. A voice called your name, I heard it clearly, you turned back from heading towards an exit door, and you told me, I WILL ANSWER THE CALL! Yes, you did answer the call.

You Served God, you feared God and you were completely sold for God. This is our consolation that you have only gone to take your rightful place at your Father’s side.

I

’ve known Pastor Thomas Adetomiwa for a year and a few months. From all that many people have said about him, the same notion is stated that he was a humble man, respectful and loved the Lord along with his family.

When my dad took the position as an assistant pastor for the church, RCCG Overflow Assembly, I was skeptical of how the church as a family would receive us.

They welcomed us with open arms. Pastor had

a warming aura about him and the one thing I noticed about him was his smile. I don’t think I’ll ever forget his smile and him always calling me his daughter. I personally know that he is in heaven worshipping his Creator and from his life on earth, it is an admiration to want to embody all that he had done for Christ. He will be certainly missed.

am still at a loss that Pastor Tomiwa is gone, I am utterly short of words and the person of Pastor Adetomiwa cannot be described in one sentence. The news of his death hit me like a tornado. What a nice, gentle and easy going personality. A father and advisor. The cold hands of death snatched him away from us. He was very passionate and dedicated to the cause of human kind. We cannot question God’. May God give all of us the strength to bear the loss and grant all his family members and associates goodness. He was a Christian and I am Muslim and I have just named my new child after him, Tomiwa Anofi. Thank you.

ust like yesterday we all gathered for Bayo’s wedding in Houston. You were an extremely proud / happy Daddy as you danced continuously to all the latest Nija vibes. Someone near us said e wo Pastor ton jo Nija vibes and I responded saying seeing your first fruit get married was not something that happened twice. You gave Bayo a run for the money and I must say you were the better dancer.

You were a very kind hearted and down to heart gentleman that loved God and family unconditionally.

Your kindness and infectious smile will always be remembered. Your love for your immediate family, the church of God and loved ones was second to none. Rest on Uncle Kunle till we all meet to part no more. You will be surely and greatly missed Egbon.

ay God accept daddy’s return and make his grave a true resting place for him.

Amen The news of daddy’s death came totally unexpected even though I had become a quite worried that I was calling him and he wasn’t returning my calls which was so unlike him.

We shared a very close father/ daughter though our relationship started out as client/attorney.

Though we were of different faith, he would always say to me, my daughter let us pray, and I obliged him every time. He was a very devout Christian

and would spend more than half of his time in Nigeria at the place in the Redeem Camp outskirts of Lagos.

I knew him to be a very dedicated husband and father, I remember all the stories about planning his daughter’s wedding in Cancun and how excited and happy he was days leading to the wedding.

I will definitely miss him a great deal. May God in His infinite mercy console and comfort mummy and the children. Amen.

hen you spend at least 1-2 hours in close contact with someone every single week for over 10 years you get to know the person very well. You know their character, their heart and their motivations. We have been privileged to spend such quality time with our dear brother. As a prayer group, together we have interceded on behalf of one another and others, we have celebrated God’s victories and answered prayers, and we have mourned when God had other plans better than ours. The latter presents itself in the home going of our dear brother, pastor and friend.

I also recalled how you used both hands, I’m sure if it wasn’t for Alhaja (late-grandma), you would make an awesome ambidextrous one.

was very emotional about this assignment of writing a tribute to my friend that was closer than a Brother, Pastor Kunle Adetomiwa.

Tommy the last thing I could imagine I will be doing this year is writing you a tribute for your loyalty and friendship with me in all our years together.

I met Pastor Tommy in March/ April 2003 in Houston and as we got talking we realized we had many friends in common and that was it. We got along like David and Jonathan, a bond I could not describe.

Tommy was so caring, he was an altruist of uncommon pedigree. He was a role model, an astute business man who knew his onions. He was focused and eminently knowledgeable in diverse areas and business ventures. An enlightened and friendly partner you can rely upon. Pastor Tommy was prepared to share what he had to make everyone happy.

Pastor Adetomiwa was a true man of God who feared and loved God. He was always eager to do

astor Adetomiwa’s involvement on the mission field as part of DBM&M: Pastor Adetomiwa impacted the ministry as an all-rounder, who was fully engaged in missions and never shy to pick up tasks no matter how challenging.

In addition to his involvement on Nigeria missions, he was instrumental to establishing an access into China for DBM&M and was in China a few times with the ministry for market evangelism and medical outreach. He was part of the team that planted two RCCG parishes in Suriname.

He’s the vice Chairman of RCCG Overflow Assembly in Wanhatti and Treasurer of RCCG Dominion Chapel Paramaribo. He was part of the medical and evangelical outreach to Comoros 13

more for God, His Church and family, not minding the cost. He was always excited to go on assignment that will enable him touch lives. Several times they came on Mission trips to Nigeria and went to the hinterland on Medical Aid to areas where they may not even get a hotel to lay their heads. Each time, he came to share the experience with me with so much joy.

What a time to sheath your sword when we have a lot of grounds to cover. Your sudden departure is a lesson to me that what we call our time is really a “Gift of Life” which God has the prerogative to reorder. The one that is Sovereign, who reigns in majesty has called Tommy home. May the Lord comfort and console your dear Wife, Children, siblings, family and even RCCG Overflow Assembly, where you made us your International Congregation.

Sleep on my brother till we meet to part no more on the resurrection morning. Adieu a worthy Servant of God. Rev. Bayo & Pastor Mrs. Toyin Okuwobi Island in the Indian Ocean. He was a fearless intercessor amongst us and on the mission fields.

He loves to impact others and even while in Nigeria he readily maintained US time in order to be a blessing to others in intercession and teaching amongst others.

In addition, he was part of the team that ministered and cared for the genocide survivors in Rwanda and part of several medical missions to Kenya and South Africa. He was ready for any available task; he could seat to package medicine and next minutes counseling, preaching and praying for the sick.

He was a man with heart set on mission.

he news of the passing of Pastor Adetomiwa was indeed a rude shock to my wife and I which we are yet to get out of. We tried to reach him throughout December, (Christmas holidays) and into the new year, and noticed that he was not reading his messages nor responding to them. This was very unusual because on the night he left Nigeria, I ran into him and his wife at the airport and he was not his usual shining self, so I wished him a quick recovery and had assumed that he had recovered.

Pastor Adetomiwa came into our lives like someone we had known forever and was loved by all the members of Ayodele Akintunde & Co, and us. He was filled with the holy spirit and he served God diligently. We travelled many times from Lagos to Abuja for work and with time I grew very fond of him. I loved his nature, easy going, always smiling, soft spoken and caring. I shared my plans for my family with him and he counselled my wife and I on our plans. In fact, he would call my wife to pressurise her to take prompt decision about this plan. He was easy to talk to and very approachable.

He treated everyone he came across with respect and dignity. He touched many lives in so many ways. He developed fatherly relationships with Abisola and Toluwalope in the office.

TRIBUTES He was a committed family man. He loved his wife and always behaved like a newlywed.

The way he walked briskly and smartly anytime we alighted from a flight made me ask him whether he used to be a sportsman.

He was a prayer warrior. Always praying. He was a member of different prayer teams and he strengthened my prayer life. Sometimes he will allow me join some of the online prayer sessions by prayer teams in the US while we waited for our flight. He was a consummate and very pragmatic.

He put all his trust in God always and this was always and inspiration for me in the various court battles that we were up against in the oil industry in Nigeria. I pray that the success he prayed for and worked for concerning an issue in the Nigerian oil and gas space will be resounding.

This indeed is like a dream but we cannot fault God for wanting this precious wonderful son by HIS side in heaven. Pastor, You ran the race and fought the good fight. Pastor Adetomiwa rest in the bosom of the Lord. You will be sorely missed.

e met Pastor Adetomiwa a few years ago as complete strangers who later became family through marriage. Pastor Adetomiwa was not just our in-law but he was someone we could count on. He attended our daughter’s wedding and our grandson’s naming ceremony while he was in Nigeria.

He was a kind, generous and prayerful family man who treated everyone with love and respect. He always showed up for people when needed. The news that he’s no longer with us is still daunting but we believe he has gone home to rest at the bosom of the Holy Spirt. We will forever remember him for all the great things he did, and we pray for healing for his wife and children.

astor Thomas Adetomiwa was a gift to the Church of Christ. The Bible College – RCCGNA Seminary, was especially blessed by the giftedness of this great servant. Pastor Adetomiwa was relevance personified.

• He was critical to the sustenance of one of the longest sustained centers of the RCCGNA Seminary – Houston Center.

• He taught multiple classes every year for many Sessions at both the Main Campus and the Houston Center Operations.

• When it was time to revive the Alumni Group, the Seminary turned to Pastor Thomas Adetomiwa and requested that he help lead the Alumni Group.

He accepted to serve as the first Chairman of RCCVGNA Seminary Alumni Group.

t was with complete shock that I received the news of the passing of a Dear Brother. I am still in deep shock.

Uncle T was very dear to me. We were in the trenches together on many occasions. I got to meet Uncle T when he took over as Chairman of our Joint Operations Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of Movido over a couple of years ago. It was like we had known each other for years. Funny enough, I found out during our numerous conversations that he hosted my Late Father in Houston during the crazy Abacha days.

That made me admire him the more since most Nigerians were scared stiff in those days. I still

commitment to Global Mission. He led Mission operation in North America, South & Central America, Asia (in the Heart of China) and in Africa.

We who worked with Pastor Adetomiwa will remember his gentler Christlike Spirit, we will remember his amiable collegial spirit, we will remember his commitment to excellence, we will remember his steadfast dedication to the call of God’s word. The Bible College has lost an irreparable gem. We mourn Pastor Thomas Adetomiwa.

r. Adetomiwa Thomas was part of Makon family for over 15 years. We used to call him “pastor Tomiwa” or “Uncle Tommy”, not only in the office , but wherever we met; matter of fact, for awhile I thought that he was a full time pastor, what an embodiment of virtue!

Uncle Tommy demonstrated good leadership!

My colleagues at work will agree with me that late Uncle Tommy was humble, peaceful, inspiring, compassionate, brilliant, intelligent observant, kind, merciful and a complete gentle man. Those qualities come from Jesus himself.

Uncle Tommy was willing to listen and never short of advice and opinions. He never cuts short a conversation, he listened, even when he disagreed.

Those who worked closely with him know that one session with him could easily take up to an hour.

One would wonder how vast he was.

“IT’S OKAY”, those words of his still ring in our ears everyday. No matter how disappointed he was

He saw this as an opportunity to give back. This was over five years ago. He was dedicated, hardly missed any of his classes and was loved by all the instructors and the students. He was a patient teacher, a dedicated tutor. One who ensured he gave his students the best he could offer and showed uttermost respect to his fellow instructors.

Dearly Beloved family, CONDOLENCE AND ENCOURAGEMENT ON THE HOME-CALL OF PASTOR THOMAS ADETOMIWA I greet you in the name of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, the Son of God and our Comforter.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort, who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which. are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.” The call to glory of our beloved brother, friend, partner in kingdom exploits, pastor and a selfless soldier of Christ remains a shock to practically all of us in the RCCG Prayer Ministry. However, we have solace in the fact that he served God till the very end.

I am encouraging you all to be thankful to the Almighty God, even as we all submit to His will in a time such as this.

Truly, Pastor Thomas Adetomiwa, a man ever ready to spend and be spent for God, humility personified, kind-hearted, a generous man of God, a hardworking leader and visionary has gone to be with the Lord. I counsel you as the family and loved ones not to sorrow as those that have no hope (1 Thessalonians. 4:13).

Condolences for Pastor Thomas ‘Kunle Adetomiwa On behalf of The Redeemed Christian Church of God The Americas and my family, I express sincere condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of Pastor Thomas ‘Kunle Adetomiwa. He was the Parish Pastor of RCCG Overflow Assembly, Houston, TX, and was passionate about the teaching of God’s Word and soul winning. He also served as a National Usher for RCCG North America Operations as well as actively participated in the National Prayer Team. Until his passing on Saturday, January 23, 2021, he was a devoted and loving husband to Pastor (Mrs.) Abosede Adetomiwa, and father to Adebayo, Adedayo, and Adekunle Adetomiwa.

We understand that RCCG Overflow Assembly, Houston, TX will never be the same again for its parishioners. Pastor Adetomiwa had only recently returned from a trip to Nigeria, arriving in Atlanta, where he was hospitalized briefly before transitioning to glory.

We who remain, and are in the LORD ourselves, must acknowledge that this is a “see-you-later” and not a goodbye (1 Corinthians 15:55). Through the hope we have in Christ, we can look forward to seeing our brother again in glory (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14). May we live lives that are rewarded by this desire in our hearts – to make heaven and take as many people with us as possible.

For his wife and children, we thank God for the time and the love you were able to share with your husband and father, and for the gift of memories you will always treasure. May the hope of heaven give you peace, and the tender touch of the Father bring you comfort. The hands that fashioned the universe are strong enough to heal you. Praying that the LORD will refresh your heart as you hope in Him (1 Peter 1:3). “…God will shower [you all] with His comfort through Christ” (2 Corinthians 1:5, NLT).

Be strong in the LORD and in the power of His might. You remain in our prayers as you process this new reality of family dynamics due to Pastor Thomas Adetomiwa’s passing. May his loving memories bring comfort to you all, in Jesus’ most precious and matchless Name!
