Birth slump in Devonport hits school rolls The number of babies born to Devonport parents has plummeted in the past decade, taking a toll on the rolls of local schools. Only 40 births were registered by local parents last year, compared to 151 in 2008, ac-
cording to Department of Internal Affairs data. Stanley Bay School, along with other schools at the Devonport end of the peninsula, has faced challenges with its roll over the past 10 years, according to principal Lucy Naylor.
“The school’s roll 10 years ago was approximately 14 per cent higher than it is now, and fewer school-age children living within the school zone is the major factor,” Naylor says. To page 5
