Long closure looms for Bruce Mason Centre

Repair and upgrade work at Takapuna’s Bruce Mason Centre could result in a lengthy closure from mid-2027. A number of sources have told the Observer the facility could be out of action for up to 12 months. The building, which opened in 1996, is understood to have had leaks.

Tātaki Auckland Unlimited acting chief executive Justine White says no decisions have been made about the timing or duration of any “potential disruptions or closure”, and planning for the work is still in its early stages. “Programming and availability beyond mid-2027 are being carefully managed while

this work progresses to allow flexibility once the scope and timing are clearer,” she says. White says potential hirers have been made aware of alternative venues. “A more detailed update will be provided once the scoping phase is complete.” • Venue turns 30, page 18
