Street action — residents oppose Hauraki development Close to 20 people converged on a Hauraki property last week to protest about the 12 dwellings planned for the site.

The development is proposed for the corner of Charles St and Francis St. Auckland Council has yet to decide whether to approve the project.

The group was met by Devonport-Taka-

puna Local Board (DTLB) chair Trish Deans and North Shore Ward Councillor John Gillon.

Sue Greenslade, a resident at Charles St who might become a direct neighbour of the proposed development, said she is particularly concerned about the planned carpark. “We already get the runoff from

the back property. What’s [the runoff] going to be like if it’s from something covered in concrete?”

She said the plans suggested lighting poles for the 12 carparks, which she described as “outrageous”.

Police investigations into an assault of two teenage girls on 22 August are ongoing with no arrests so far.

Police say they had “predominantly” identified the youths involved in the assault who were between 12 and 17 years old.

“The two young victims were hanging out with the group around Takapuna for around an hour on Saturday evening, at about 9.30pm the group reportedly turned on the pair,” said detective senior sergeant Mike Williams.

As of Monday, no arrests had been made, said Waitematā East area commander inspector Aron McKeown.

“Police have no tolerance for violence in our communities, and the public can be assured that this is being treated seriously.”

Police said they could not yet share more details with the Observer as the investiga-

tion is still ongoing.

McKeown said police are working with the victims and their families to provide them with support.

Devonport-Takapuna Local Board member and Takapuna Beach Business Association CEO Terence Harpur has been working with police to collect CCTV footage of the incident.

“There is good coverage of the area, and the area inspector has assured me there is a large police team working on the case,” said Harpur.

“He said they are making good progress.

This does appear to be an isolated incident, very uncommon for the North Shore.”

He said police have told him there is no evidence that this is a pattern of offending, and Takapuna remains one of the safest places to live in the country.

Three golds out of eight for Westlake choirs

They were: Westlake Boys’ Voicemale and Westlake Girls’ Cantare and the combined choir Choralation. Westlake took home three of the eight gold awards.

Voicemale was also awarded the trophy for Best Performance of a Work in the Open Choice Category for their rendition of Songs of the Wizard by Stephen Schwartz.

Cantare, a treble voice choir of 47 singers, has been awarded gold every year since 2017, and Choralation every year since 2008. In 2024, both also won gold medals at the World Choir Games and International Choir Festival in Bali.

Musical director of Cantare and Choralation Fiona Wilson said students were feeling “very satisfied and proud”.

“They delivered their best performances of music they love, and the awards are a bonus.”

Westlake Boys’ head of music Warwick Robinson said Voicemale – a 64-person choir conducted by David Squire – had been preparing their repertoire since the start of the school year.

“Right up until the last moment before going on stage the singers were trying to refine and improve their performance,” he said.

“The standard of music making was really high at this year’s event, but despite the pressures felt by all of the singers in the 24 Finale choirs, they were so supportive and encouraging of one another.”

Ukulele lessons feature at Takapuna Library for learners’ week Takapuna librarians James Dunning and Jiehua Ma have included a ukulele session in their BrainCharge event lined up for Adult Learners’ Week.

Promoted as “try a new hobby”, Adult Learners’ Week is taking place across Auckland with 23 participating libraries and over 70 free activities on offer.

Ma said that BrainCharge is a highly beneficial programme, particularly for older adults. “Each BrainCharge session is unique.

It provides opportunities to learn new skills, stay socially connected, and engage in activities that stimulate the brain and help keep the mind active and sharp, supporting overall wellbeing.”

Outside of Adult Learners’ Week, BrainCharge runs regularly at Takapuna Library, every Tuesday from 11am to midday. Ma said spaces were available for more more people.

Auckland Council Libraries public engagement manager Krissy Taylor said Adult Learners’ Week focuses on removing educational obstacles and helping individuals discover new passions they might not have explored previously.

Online education part of Takapuna Primary’s priorities Changes in the digital world are creating new abuse dangers for children, and Takapuna Primary School is taking steps to help parents and students prevent these situations.

Constable Murray Fenton stopped by Takapuna Primary School to support the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme, teaching students, staff and parents how to identify and prevent abuse.

The programme is part of the school’s curriculum every two years, and is a police initiative that teaches students a range of safe practices to interact with others in-person and online, as well as the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships, and where they can seek help if they are being or have been abused.

Teacher Phoenix Ataria said the programme has modules such as “Confident Me”, which aims to help students feel confident enough to say “no” if they encounter abuse. Another module on the “Digital Cyber World” teaches students what is not okay to share online, and what content is objectionable if they come across or are sent it.

Principal Devika Tagg said this is a “really important part of the curriculum.

“It’s about educating staff and students about different types of abuse, understanding their bodies and how to communicate with trusted adults.”

The programme also aims to make parents and teachers more aware of their responsibilities to help students avoid abuse.

Tagg said parents were invited to talk with Constable Fenton one afternoon, and families were particularly interested in learning about how to prevent abuse from online and digital sources.

1966 and all that: Beach meeting marked 60 years later On the 60th anniversary of their first meeting at Takapuna Beach, writer and Te Araroa trail founder Geoff Chapple and his wife Miriam Beatson celebrated with a stay at Takapuna Beach Holiday Park. They spoke to Maria Teape about their memories of that auspicious day.

It was a sunny Sunday on 21 August 1966, and Miriam was sitting on the wall at Takapuna Beach near the yacht club.

She was contemplating the day when two striking redheaded lads jumped down onto the sand nearby.

The lads – cousins Geoff Chapple and Graem Hollis – noticed the pretty young woman sitting on the wall, but no conversation was initiated. Miriam decided to take herself off for a walk along the beach and around the rocks.

Making her way back a while later, with the sun in her eyes and her gaze cast down, two pairs of feet appeared in her line of vision: it was the redheaded lads.

They wanted to know why she’d taken off and what was around the rocks anyway.

“I thought it was a bit cheeky at the time,” Miriam says. But she agreed to join them when they suggested walking around the rocks again.

Later the trio pooled their money and bought fish and chips.

Graem left to visit his aunty who lived nearby. Miriam and Geoff got in Geoff’s Mini to follow the setting sun. They ended up in Paremoremo. When Geoff dropped Miriam home to Takapuna later, she wrote her phone number in the mist on his car window.

Two weeks went by without contact, then they bumped into each other at the University of Auckland where they were both students.

Miriam kept spotting Geoff’s car around the university and recalls leaving notes for him under his windscreen wipers. He was editor of student newspaper Craccum at the time, and before long Miriam joined him there as chief proofreader.

Geoff headed off to Wellington the following year to finish his studies while Miriam stayed in Auckland. In 1968, Miriam headed off on her OE, basing herself in London and not heading home to Auckland until around 1971. By then, Geoff was in Sydney.

Miriam remembers having just a night at home with her family before joining him there.

After a year and a half in Sydney together, Miriam once again returned to Auckland,

Geoff explored Asia, taking the “Hippie Trail”, but it wasn’t long before he made his way back to Miriam. The couple’s first daughter, Polly, was born in 1973. The family lived for a time in Mt Eden then Grafton before settling in Cheltenham.

They had a second daughter, Irene, and a son, Amos, who was born in the Cheltenham house.

In 1984 the family of five spent a year in a converted bus, travelling throughout the South Island. Exploring places as they pleased, they became quite expert at foraging fruit and other food. Miriam says fried puffball mushrooms are quite delicious – as long as they haven’t puffed. “I became good at managing with very little,” Miriam says.

Geoff says she held things together in more ways than one during his main writing years and the years of the Te Araroa Trust and trail development.

They remember the time when Geoff was away from the family writing his book 1981

Geoff says writing about such difficult subjects wouldn’t have been possible without Miriam’s support. Geoff was away for other long stretches, such as when he went to China to make a film about expat Kiwi Rewi Alley. He also wrote an Alley biography.

Geoff and Miriam have now lived in Devonport for 50 years. One of their daughters lives locally. They have two grandchildren.

Twenty-two years after that first meeting on Takapuna Beach, Geoff and Miriam got married on Cheltenham Beach, outside McHughs.

Family and friends were invited to join them in a Valentine’s Day celebratory picnic. “A couple of people worked out what was really going on,” Miriam says.

She recalls that another wedding was being celebrated in McHughs, but her and Geoff’s celebration was such a wonderful event with live music from friend Don McGlashan, that people from the other wedding party came and joined theirs.

Shopkeepers almost run down going about their business Closing up shop in Takapuna almost ended in disaster for two business owners narrowly missed by footpath e-scooter racers.

Music dealer Bruce Farrell and shoe repairman Madhu “Mike” Keshav were taking in their business signs from the footpath at 5.15pm on a Wednesday. Two steps from the alleyway, what appeared to be an e-scooter race between two teenagers came “tearing down” the Lake Rd footpath.

One scooter ran over Keshav’s foot run over, and Farrell noted the person on the scooter was not wearing a helmet.

“Another scooter rider stopped and asked how we were, and we said ‘Okay, but a little shaken’.”

“Worst-case scenario, we would have both been knocked down and the scooter rider would have gone down also.”

Keshav said he was not injured, but the footpath was not the right place for racing.

“It was a bit of a shock.”

Farrell said allowing scooters on the footpath is an “accident waiting to happen”.

“You see them numerous times weaving around people at speed,” he said. “We have elderly and mums with kids and prams on this footpath, and no way of knowing what these kids are going to do next.”

He said e-scooters belong on the road, and riders should wear helmets and have a minimum licensed age of 16 years.

The men are calling for the government and council to make footpaths safer for pedestrians.

Farrell said he has approached North Shore MP Simon Watts about the issue but is waiting to hear back. He also took his concerns to the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board at its community forum.

North Shore needs more economic and tourism emphasis Central Takapuna needs more recognition in Auckland Council’s Economic Development Strategy says the Devonport Takapuna Local Board (DTLB).

Board member Terence Harpur said he was “disappointed” to see the strategy had a focus on the Auckland CBD, with comparitvely little attention paid to the North Shore.

The board asked the council for the

Takapuna area to be formally recognised as a priority economic precinct alongside the City Centre, Drury and Northwest – centres which are already named. The board also asked the council to prioritise investment in North Shore public transport options such as North Shore rapid transit, the ferry and harbour connectivity.

A transparent implementation strategy

and long-term plan for the 2027-2037 funding pipeline was also requested to check that regional economic priorities matched those of local boards.

The board also wants Auckland Council to investigate “highly weighted” policy changes, such as the negative economic impact on a town centre following the raising of street parking rates.

Reclaiming, Enabling & Preserving Stories for Everyone

The concept of ‘Story’ has been hijacked by social media companies. Superficial algorithm chasing trends compressed into 15 seconds are scrolled past and forgotten. Social media didn’t kill story telling, it cheapened it. Swapping substance for reach and meaning for engagement.

But it doesn’t have to be this way, and we can all reclaim our storytelling.

Psychologists have argued for decades that identity is something we build, largely out of narrative. The stories we tell about where we come from, who raised us, what we’ve lived through, are the scaffolding for a sense of self.

When those stories go untold, or get flattened into an Instagram “Story” built for likes, something very important, but harder to define gets lost along with them.

“Everyone has stories worth telling.” says Mark von Roy founder of Bricolage a new creative heritage studio based on the Shore. Bricolage helps families and individuals capture and preserve their stories with substance; through film, audio, print and digital archiving, before they slip away.

For the past decade Mark travelled the world, working as a journalist, director, filmer, producer and editor-in-chief, documenting the exploits of elite athletes. Exciting stuff, but he realised a deeper purpose was missing from his work.

When his father was diagnosed with cancer, something shifted. A quiet urgency set in, less about deadlines and more about time. He needed to capture his father’s life and his family’s heritage in general. The craft, the passions, the small details.

“I think it is really important to preserve these stories, thoughts and ideas for future generations,” he says. “In this fast-paced world, media and stories are often treated as disposable. But actually, they are the glue that holds our sense of identity together.” Bricolage grew from that realisation.

Mark has recently moved back to the Shore with his young family after almost 20 years away, and has set up his one-person-studio at

home, with hopes for future growth into a dedicated space.

A bricolage is something assembled from what’s already at hand, built with care into something new and whole. The idea is to take what someone has already lived and make it permanent. Make something intangible, a little more tangible and accessible.

The studio works across four disciplines. Cinematic film brings documentary-grade production to private stories: considered cinematography, interviews, archival material; a proper film.

Podcast style audio, records a voice, shaped into something a grandchild can sit down and listen to decades from now. Print takes what already exists, photographs, journals, essays, recipes, artwork, and turns it into a book. Digital Archive builds a secure, beautifully designed private website where a family’s stories, history and most treasured media live in one place.

The range is intentional. “The services are broad because different stories and people require different mediums,” Mark says. “A project doesn’t need to be a personal or family history.

It could be digitising and reprinting an important recipe book, or creating an homage film about Rangitoto. For example, before starting Bricolage I made a music video for cricket leg-

end Glenn Turner, which was quite abstract, but also really amazing.” The idea is to capture the essence or feeling of a person, a place or a space in time - so that future generations get a better understanding of their ancestors.

Every project starts with a conversation. Mark listens and asks occasional questions. Nothing is recorded until there’s a good sense of what the story is and how it wants to be told. He’s particular about this. “The experience of capturing these stories should be just as valuable as the end product,” he says. That philosophy shapes how he works. Clients aren’t handed a form and a brief. They’re guided through a process that’s designed to feel good, because for most people, talking about what matters most to them should feel good. The final piece, whatever form it takes, should feel genuinely like a reflection of the person or thing it’s about.

Mark is open about the fact that Bricolage is new. He’s building it carefully, one project at a time. He brings a decade of telling other people’s stories at the highest level, applied now to the stories closest to home.

Bring on the summer pontoons at Milford and Lake Pupuke Two new swimming pontoons are planned for Milford Beach and Lake Pupuke.

The Milford pontoon will be towards the northern end of the beach, around 130m offshore, while the Lake Pupuke pontoon is to be 30m from the shore, near the jetty close to the PumpHouse theatre.

For the Milford Beach swimming pontoon, the mooring will be installed by barge, according to a resource consent lodged by Auckland Council.

Pontoons are usually put in place beforeLabour Weekend and removed after summer around Easter to King’s Birthday.

Milford and Lake Pupuke have long histories as swimming and recreational spots.

“Similar projects at Auckland beaches including Castor Bay, Judges Bay, Stanmore Bay, Manly Beach and Matheson Bay have been highly successful and are well used over summer by older children and youth”

Shore Junction going strong after five years Shore Junction has 7000 members five years after opening.

A carpentry and metal working space is being developed, based on the interests of members and Shore Junction soon hopes to offer a counselling service, which would have its own separately designated space.

Youth development manager, Conin Bowker said because activities are youth-led and unprescribed, they don’t have a programme of activities as such, but there are always things happening.

Bowker told the Rangitoto Observer that Shore Junction’s kaupapa is to provide all the tools and facilities that young people may need to develop their interests - whether it’s dance, skateboarding, gaming, music or art.

The centre operates on a relatively low adult-to-youth ratio with 4-5 adults on site. This is possible because of Shore Junction’s induction process for new members. Bowker explains that through this process, and Shore Junction’s kaupapa, members have a strong sense of ownership and treat the facilities and each other with respect.

Around 20-30 per cent of members are from the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board area and 30-40 per cent from Kaipatiki. Members also come from the Upper Harbour area and from outside the Shore.

Devonport-Takapuna’s youth board, “Younite”, is based at Shore Junction, and up next for the team is putting together a youth focused “meet the candidates” event.

Two nailbiters in a week – but Westlake prevails

Scores locked…but Westlake held on and took out Blues region championship as it scored the first try

It’s not often a rugby side conceedes 40 points in two consecutive championship matches and wins both of them.

But Westlake Boys did just that on succesive Saturdays.

After beating Rosmini 45-43 in the North Harbour championship final, the following Saturday Westlake faced Kelston Boys in the Blues’ regional first XV final held at Westlake.

It was another thriller with the scores locked 40-40 at fulltime. Westlake won by virtue of scoring the first try in the match, and now goes on to the top four national finals this week.

Wing Harper Wilson, had a massive week. Just days before the rugby final, he led Westlake’s Premier Basketball team to an Auckland title.

•Westlake plays Chiefs regional champions and Moascar Cup holders Tauranga Boys today (4 September) with St Andrews playing St Pats Silverstream in the other semi-final.

Westlake Boys won the 2026 North Harbour secondary school title in one of the most exciting matches in years.

It beat Rosmini 45-43 in a match filled with drama right down to the wire.

After an even first half, Westlake sprang ahead in the second toi 45-29 with 15 minutes to play.

Rosmini’s chances of winning seemed to be disappearing but the 2026 side was capable of remarkable comebacks, beating Westlake in its last match after trailing 21-0. And so it transpired at North Harbour Stadium.

In a frenetic last ten minutes, Rosmini needed to score three times to win. Aided by a Westlake yellow card and a knock on in goal, Rosmini scored twice but simply ran out of time to notch an historic win.

It was Westlake’s twenty-third North Harbour title and eighth in row. Westlake’s man of the match was captain and halfback Levi Leith, who scored two tries.

Flood land strategy briefings held in secret More public use of flood prone land in Sunnynook and Milford before it is incorporated into the Ngā Wairau Regeneration Strategy will sought by the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board (DTLB).

But more detailed conversations around the strategy will be held behind closed doors.

The Ngā Wairau Regeneration Strategy is a response after the 2023 Auckland Anniversary floods to repurpose land heavily impacted by the flooding as well as improve and further protect areas safe from flooding.

Parts of the strategy aim to naturalise and widen waterways beside Nile Rd in Milford as part of the Milford Blue-Green Network and increase stormwater detention in Sunnynook Park.

Council staff said a board workshop, which will be closed, will be held in two weeks to discuss the plan..At a recent business meeting the DTLB endorsed

the strategy, which will guide decisions throughout the process.

Board member Terence Harpur said encouraging the use of the land before it is incorporated into the strategy should be “much more emphasised” in the document.

“Realistically, [these plans] are going to take many years to happen. There's a lot of land our community can make use of until it's part of the healthy waters building site.”

The council staff member presenting the strategy said MP Simon Watts had said there will be no more funding from central government for the project.

Harpur suggested he and chair Trish Deans draft a letter to Auckland Council to clarify what the DTLB is asking for regarding the interim use of the land.

Deputy chair Scott Macarthur asked for the council to replace the word “aspirational” with “unfunded” in the document when referring to projects that were upcoming but had not yet been funded.

Well-read – 10,000 books in a week at Sunnynook School

With a book character parade, a visit from local author Sam Smith, and a redecoration of the school’s library and tech room, the students turned their focus on reading into a school-wide goal.

Initially set at 5000 books, a goal the school had already reached mid-week, the Year 6 Book Week leaders decided to double their ambition to 10,000.

Teacher and co-organiser of book week Libby Brereton said one class of Year 5/6 students had even asked the teacher if they could read instead of playing an end-of-day game.The Book Week leaders said they have been working towards this event for almost a term.

She said her favourite result from the week was seeing fellow students “looking at books and actually wanting to read them”.

Just outside the library a series of cushions surrounded a campfire (made of cardboard) where students could read quietly.

The tech room, also the venue of the Scholastic Book Fair, had been transformed into an enchanted forest itself with fairy lights and flowers.

To end the week, princesses, pirates, Pokemon, K-pop Demon Hunters and fairies joined a book character parade, alongside the Avengers, several variations of Spider-Man, creatures from Minecraft and students from Hogwarts.

Young soccer star scores women’s World Cup rep hat trick Year 13 Westlake Girls High School student Charley March is gearing up for her third international world cup after being selected as a member of the New Zealand squad for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.

Charley, a defender, said she worked hard for her spot on the team. “Making the squad was my top goal for this year, and I was preparing for the best-case scenario.”

She has competed internationally twice before, at the past two FIFA U17 Women’s World Cups, one in the Dominican Republic and the other in Morocco.

“It has to be one of my favourite experiences and I’m so grateful that I get to compete internationally again this year,” Charley (18) said.

The U20 draw has pitted New Zealand against some of the world’s best teams in pool play.

“Our pool is very tough as we have Japan, USA and Italy, all strong sides which will be a great challenge. I think representing the fern and playing for New Zealand will be such an exciting moment.”

The tournament takes place this month, and the New Zealand team will take on Japan on 7 September, Italy on 10 September and the USA on 13 September.

Charley said she could not have achieved the selection without the support of her coaches and family.

Looking forward, Charley is still figuring out the next steps in her football career. “It’s so amazing how women’s football has grown and there are so many pathways for young girls like me.

“For now, I want to keep playing, grow as a player and just get better.”

Home is where the art is – and beloved pets Through the creation of unique artworks, fourteen artists have responded to the question, “What does home mean to you?” in Lake House Arts Centre’s latest exhibition: “Home”.

The exhibition was curated in response to interviews with Lake House supporters which were turned into live performance by arts group “Whiskey & Boots”, Lake House Arts Centre Manager Grae Burton said.

Four of the 14 exhibiting artists had their responses included in the performance, A rolling 15-minute summation of the live performance will be shown at the exhibition.

One of the “Home” exhibiting artists, Linda Gair, spoke to the Rangitoto Observer about her paired works, known as a diptych, which feature family pets: Baker the dog in “Waiting Impatiently” and Mushda the cat in “Waiting Patiently”.

“For me, home isn’t about the ‘stuff’ you own—it’s the ‘people’, both two-legged and 4-legged. It’s that comfort, that warmth of knowing where you belong, the security and that sense of belonging that a home provides,” Gair said.

Gair paints in acrylics, nearly always on wood, with “Waiting Impatiently” and “Waiting Patiently” on vintage plywood.

“In a way, the ‘pets’ are painted in a recognisable version of my painting style, but I have never painted animals before.”

Gair said the challenge was capturing the animals’ personalities in their likenesses, adding that her daughter agreed she had succeeded. The paintings are framed by matching bungalow window frames.

Graduating from Elam School of Fine Art in photography, Gair worked with this medium for more than 20 years before picking up a paintbrush. She became a member of Lake House Arts Centre in 2003 the showing paintings in the exhibition “Room With A View” in the Becroft Gallery.

“Quite coincidentally, those works were also framed in vintage villa and bungalow windows and old moulded window architraves. So this work, in a way, feels like I’ve come full-circle.”

“I can see my photography skills in my paintings and the discipline of being able to balance a work.”

Gair said her “Home” works are not only about the occupants, but also the architecture and “vintage” of the home and its setting.

Gair hopes exhibition visitors smile when they see her diptych: “Not just on the inside, but visibly as well, because anybody who has – or has had – a pet will know that ‘longing look’ they give you when waiting for you to pay them attention or are awaiting your return to them.”

Knights become clear as day at Hauraki Primary Hauraki School’s year 5 and 6 cohort are buzzing with excitement to present their medieval musical show in September.

Principal and show producer Clarinda Franklin said the students ‘preparation was “amazing”, and they were very motivated about the whole show.

“There’s a lot of excitement building.”

What A Knight, written by Craig Hawes, is set in medieval times at Camelot Castle, with a “vibrant” cast of characters including squires, precocious princesses, a talking dragon and Merlin and his magic mirror.

Franklin says all are welcome, and those attending can expect a fun show with singing, dancing and lots of laughs.

An opening matinee will be held on Monday 14 September at 1pm, and 7pm showings will be held on 15, 16 and 17 September.

Takapuna Library events • Milford resident David Schnauer will discuss his book Uncomfortable Economics at Takapuna Library on Wednesday 16 September. • On Wednesday 21 October, local author Sarah Ell,will be one of two authors discussing their latest writing. Ell’s historical novel is set against the background of the volcanic eruption which destroyed the Pink and White Terraces in 1886.

Sylvia Sinel: something special for art lovers Artist in residence at Lake House Arts Centre, Sylvia Sinel, is hosting a “Special Meet-Up” at her upstairs studio as part of the venue’s Open Week.

Sinel will talk about her practice and background, focusing on her latest body of work.

She then has a little challenge prepared for visitors, with the winner receiving a piece of her art.

She doesn’t want to give too much away, but says she will share a story, and the winner will be the person who can figure out its meaning.

Originally from Sweden, Sinel has lived in New Zealand since 2013 and on the North Shore for a year and a half. Her involvement with Lake House Art Centre began with teaching art classes to dementia sufferers, which led to her taking a studio at the centre.

Working with a variety of media, Sinel’s practice has more recently evolved to working in the “Carton-Pierre” style, also known as stone paper.

Predominantly a ceramicist since arriving in New Zealand, Sinel began exploring other materials after selling her Waikato property, which housed her art studio and kilns. “The Carton-Pierre technique was used during the 1700s and 1800s in France and England to make sculpture and ornaments.”

“I wanted to do bigger art works and with this technique, I’m not limited by the size of my kiln.” Sinel said the finished product also has a lovely surface to paint on.
