SEA Founders Forward thinking, culture and creativity are the type of words that describe the Founders of the Southern Entertainment Awards. Created in 2003 by Jesse Johnson Jr and Janiro Hawkins II in the halls of Platinum Bound Records on Historic Jefferson St. in Nashville, TN these two individuals have collectively been immersed in the music and entertainment industry for more than thirty years. As our founders will tell all, the Southern Entertainment Awards was created to celebrate the accomplishments of those making noise in the South and provide an outlet for networking. An event created after seeing a gap and lack of recognition for the DJs and their contributions to the advancement of the culture, the Southern Entertainment Awards quickly grew into a must attend event throughout the South.

About SEAs

Guidance Dave Lucci is a Nashville based rapper who takes a storyteller’s approach at sharing his personal experiences on the street. He describes his musical style as “not hood, but from the hood” referencing common struggles and topics that bond him with his audience. A seasoned veteran on the rap scene, Lucci has 13 albums and over 300 shows under his belt. Lucci got his first real experience as a performer at the young age of twelve-years-old when he reenacted Kris Kross’s “Jump Jump” in front of a crowd of over 500 during a Nashville street festival. This experience drove Lucci to start writing and by using a pair of headphones as a microphone, he began recording over industry beats in his bedroom closet. Dubbing for family and friends quickly gained him attention from local rap artists such as Boogie, signed with Street Flavor and Blow Pop from Walter D and the Blow Pop Crew. After working with a variety of local artists, Lucci decided to make his rap career a main focus in his life , and in the process started the rap group, Murda Squad. Completing four mixtapes, Murda Squad volumes 1-4 from 2001-2004, and selling over 30,000 copies, Lucci’s recognition began to span far outside of just Nashville, but to cities all across the South.

Kenneth Lowery also known by his stage name S.U.G was born June 7th of 1990 in South Carolina, life in the South Carolina was short lived due to his family moving to Nashville. He began writing at the age of seven from songs to poetry to story lines for comics. He won his first writing contest at the age of 10 years old. A lot of his inspiration comes from lessons he’s learned from trials and triumphs that he experienced as well as the growth and evolution emotionally spiritually and mentally. His dream was to become a Firefighter which he had achieved in Memphis, but due to illness his dreams were cut short.

So He moved back to Nashville to regroup and refocus and through many ventures and some time reflecting he decided to start focus on his own passions. He started performing in 2020 days before the pandemic hit full force, the idea of performing started off as a bucket list wish but the spoken word scene wasn’t as prevalent in Nashville as it once was. So he decided to create is own brand Southside of 65 and began hosting his own showcases and created a platform for himself to get on stage but also to give opportunities for local and surrounding talent.
