As of February 2013 with Hiroyuki Nishimura as director of Niwango, nikoniko's atmosphere and cultural context are close to those of the 2 channel or the Futaba channel. Many popular videos on this site have otaku flavors, such as anime, computer games, and pop music. nikoniko provides a function for users (not just video loaders) to tag videos. Each video can contain eleven tags, up to five of which the magazine can block. Often, this functionality can be used not only as an assortment, but also as an important commentary, satire or other humor related to the content of the video. The site is also known for its mix of popular songs on its MAD videos and website, most notably Kumayoku Nico Nico Dooga. nikoniko also distributed some original network animations, such as Candy Boy, Tentai Sensei Sunread and Penguin Musume Heart.
