Our training center, DW Akademie, passes on these values and expertise to our partners all over the globe.

From the heart of Europe Deutsche Welle keeps people connected to Germany and Europe by providing them with the content they need, in the formats they want and in their own languages. We incorporate TV, radio and online services under one brand – DW. Our TV news show Journal keeps viewers up to date with the latest and most important developments in Europe and on other continents. Business Brief covers the top stories in business and finance. Pressing issues of globalization, climate change and the environment are tackled in TV magazines such as Global 3000 and radio shows like Living Planet and WorldLink.

The weekly TV shows Made in Germany, Arts.21 and Bundesliga Kick off! offer insights into the economy, the creative scene and football in Germany. The lifestyle magazine Euromaxx is a one-of-a-kind kaleidoscope of the continent’s people and places, arts and fashion, music, culinary treats and much more.

Our extensive portfolio of features, magazines and documentaries is bolstered by extensive collaboration with other German public broadcasters.

A trusted guide in the digital world DW has a unique online presence, which, besides the latest news and background information on politics, business, science and culture, is characterized by its diversity of languages and regionalized content. Our website www.dw.de is home to a multi-lingual audio and video treasure trove. The Media Center gives users convenient access to live streams, on demand content as well as to picture galleries. Mobile users are fully catered for at m.dw.de or via the DW apps.

Culture lovers can find in-depth coverage of major events such as the Berlinale Film Festival, the dOCUMENTA art exhibition in Kassel and the Beethovenfest Bonn, all of which DW actively supports.

For more than 50 years, DW has offered German courses for learners of every level, from beginners to expert.

Today’s language courses in 30 languages represent a broad spectrum of multimedia information and learning formats such as interactive courses, the telenovela Jojo sucht das Glßck (Jojo’s Search for Happiness), audio and video content, podcasts and even a large fan community on Facebook that is growing by the day.

An international brand with local flavor Transcending borders through dialogue, DW champions regional partnerships to reach local audiences with the issues that are most relevant to them.

We produce TV shows on sci-tech, environmental, health and European issues in several local languages such as Portuguese for Brazil and Hindi that are broadcast by premium partner stations in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

The Spanish talk show Claves, co-produced with partners from Mexico to Chile, focuses on the special challenges for Latin American countries in a globalized world.

The Arabic talk show Shababtalk is jointly produced with one of our partner stations in Egypt. It brings together young people from Egypt and Germany to discuss current developments and their impact on youth culture.

The needs of younger audiences have a special place in our programming. With the Learning by Ear series, we provide young radio listeners in Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan with interactive, educational programs tailored to the realities of their daily lives.

Sustainable media development DW Akademie works to support free and independent media in developing and transition countries. Most projects are conducted on location around the world.

The focus is on workshops for radio, television and online journalists, advanced training for media managers, media consulting for private and public broadcasters and media training for non-governmental organizations.

Cross-media, 18-month traineeships offer aspiring German and international journalists an opportunity to gain

additional skills at DW’s broadcasting centers in Bonn and Berlin.

DW Akademie also runs a bilingual International Media Studies Master’s program together with the University of Bonn and the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences. The course provides an unparalleled mix of research, lectures and practical experience and prepares international students for careers in the communications and media sectors.

Working for better understanding For decades, DW has been committed to promoting diversity of opinion and intercultural understanding. We actively support the efforts of today’s generations to understand the world around them. Informed, participatory decision-making can shape a better future – individually, regionally and across cultures.

This is reflected not only in our programming, but also in the many special projects initiated by DW, like the annual

international Best of Blogs awards (The BOBs). Encompassing blogs written in 11 languages, the awards honor those who champion the open exchange of ideas and freedom of expression.

The Internet portal Qantara.de is a platform for EuroIslamic dialogue, and is the result of DW’s cooperation with respected German institutions such as the Goethe Institute.

A proud tradition Deutsche Welle first went on air on May 3, 1953. Over the years we have grown to become a key player among international broadcasters.

People from more than 60 nations work at our headquarters in Bonn and Berlin. We have permanent bureaus in Washington, Moscow, Brussels and Buenos Aires as well as a network of hundreds of freelance correspondents all over the globe.

Along with a global satellite network and thousands of international partner stations, DW seeks to expand the borders of traditional broadcasting and embrace new technologies. In the mid-1990s, we were the first public broadcaster in Germany to go online, and our podcasts were among the first to be available for mobile devices.

But there can be no substitute for face-to-face dialogue. That’s why DW hosts the annual Global Media Forum in Bonn. Up to 2,000 representatives from diverse professions and from more than 100 countries meet each year to discuss the relevance of the media in issues ranging from conflict prevention and peace-building to climate change and education.
