General
• SANCTUS is preferably to be performed in a church or hall of equal acoustic qualities (four or more seconds).
Winds
• When necessary, winds apply ‘choral breathing’.
• The composer prefers a performance in which the 3rd flute, 3rd oboe and 3rd clarinet are being doubled by a 4th instrument. In that case, the 1st and 2nd bassoon are being doubled by a 3rd and 4th.
Piano
• The piano lid should be removed.
Strings
• In order to give as much as possible intensity and expression to the long melodic lines in Sanctus, the composer suggests the Appassionato Maestoso (bars 1-82) to be played free bowing throughout.
