Mr. Salter Says Farewell

James Lindenberg ‘21 Staff Writer

Mr. Robert Salter began his teaching career in 1977 at the largest Catholic high school in Michigan at the time, Bishop Borgess High School in Redford. During his thirteen years there, he taught theology and brought the Lord’s message to many students.

After deciding to leave the Bishop Borgess family to begin a new chapter in his life, Mr. Salter took his teaching skills to a friend’s training consultant company where he trained many people going into Human Resource positions. Mr. Salter spent twenty-five years working here, and during that time, he received a masters degree in organizational development. Near the end of his time there, Mr. Salter received a call from an old friend from Bishop Borgess High School, Mr. Kevin Walters.

Mr. Walters, now working at Catholic Central, told his old friend that he should come back to teaching and apply at CC. Taking his advice, Mr. Salter began teaching theology at Catholic Central in 2013. Mr. Salter connected with his students by using his welcoming personality and infectious positivity. Mr. Salter’s students will look back on his teachings with great reverence because he made the Lord’s words come alive. Mr. Salter’s knowledge and wisdom has been an inspiration for many Catholic Central students and will continue to inspire others as we share these teachings for generations to come.

There are many things Mr. Salter will miss about his job at Catholic Central. Most of all, he said, he will “miss ‘evangelizing’ and watching insecure freshmen grow into strong and confident seniors during their time here.”

Although we will not see him in the classroom, we may find Mr. Salter on the golf course or traveling to Europe with his wife in the near future.

As a message to the Catholic Central family, Mr. Salter wants us to remember to stay focused on finding happiness and to continually ask ourselves: ”Who are we created to be?”

We may not know the answer to this question, but because of Mr. Salter, we are all closer to finding our own solution.

Fr. O’Neill Hangs Up Jacket for Good

Logan Welter ‘21 Staff Writer

Ever since CC moved to Donaher Drive in 2005, through changes in administration, and advances in educational technology, one thing has stayed constant: the joyful presence of Father O’Neill. However, when we return in August, Father will not be there, instead he will be retired in Canada.

During his time here, Father O’Neill has touched so many lives through his ministry and teaching, whether in the classroom teaching freshmen how to tap a maple tree, before a football game praying with the band, or at mass with his sermons. Being active in the school community is what Father says he will miss the most as the sense of community and competitive spirit of CC “keeps [him] young.”

While the CC community will miss Father O’Neill greatly, he is excited to start this new chapter in his life. He looks forward to taking the time he didn’t have before to take winter vacations to the Southern Hemisphere to see new places in nature and new cultures.

Thank you Father O’Neill for all you’ve done for our CC community and we hope that whatever your future has in store is full of blessings and good times.

Fr. Rob Retires After 21 Years

Aedan Branigan-Brown ‘21 Staff

For 21 years Fr. Rob Moslosky has worked at Catholic Central. His retirement is well earned.

Not only has he been a teacher of math, theology, and computer courses, but he’s also served as moderator for the Mothers’ Club, Assistant Principal, and his latest post as the School Webmaster. His career here started in the fall of 1983 and lasted until 1987 before he took an 18 year hiatus, returning in 2005.

It’s this 2019-2020 school year that’s to be his last, throughout Fr. Rob’s career, one thing has always been consistent: frightened freshmen fumbling to their classes in the fall. It’s this time that Father says is his favorite, as he gets to watch them grow into men of Catholic Central over their four years. As rewarding as that is, Fr. Rob’s fulfilling of his high school dream to be a teacher has brought him the most satisfaction. Despite the unique challenges of both the classroom and administration, he’s enjoyed his time at CC greatly.

The time Father spent at CC has yielded many changes, the biggest of which he says was moving to the Novi campus. “Even though many people reminisce with fondness about Breakfast Drive and those buildings that came before it, the new building had space that helped in spirit and structure to build the Men of CC,” he said.

In Fr. Rob’s 15 years in Novi, the space has only become more successful through his efforts and other members of the faculty and staff that share his dedication.
