WELCOME HOME
A NEW ENTRY TO OUR KINGDOM Jack Smith ’21 changes have come to entrances of Catholic Central. Anyone who has entered or passed the campus in the past few months has noticed heavy construction stretching from entrance to entrance across the strip of land purchased last year. For the past year, the Advancement Office has been overseeing a complete renovation of both entrances to CC’s campus. “The project was approved last December,” CC President Mr. Turek said, “and it has been completely funded by a donor.” The project was all ready to go last school year and set to be finished by August 1, but then delayed, of course, due to the pandemic. Included in the design are new telephone poles, a large cross at the main entrance, lights to make it all shine in the dark, and an electric sign for different messages and reminders. entrance reads “Home of the Shamrocks” and the exit message “Mary, Alma Mater, Inspire Us Evermore.” The timing of the pandemic meddled perfectly with the construction plans, leading to lengthy delays. According to Mr. Turek, “Once they actually began working, they really had no problems or setbacks.” This new entrance can be characterized as one of prestige and class, something that strongly represents the school and its mission. “We worked closely with the donor and with the landscaping firm to portray a certain image,” Mr. Turek said. “We feel that the stone and the beams portray a sense of strength and also tradition to our Detroit roots, representing the industry of Detroit similar to the cog wheel in the crest,” Mr. Turek added. “We hope to embody the strength, history, and durability of Catholic Central.” This entrance will further exhibit Catholic Central’s resilience. The stone and beams show our foundation is strong and will not be knocked down. This isn’t just a new entrance into Catholic Central, but a reminder of its past, and a “Gateway to its Future.”
