President

Dear Alumni and Friends, I hope you have all had a wonderful year so far, and as always I am excited to share some updates with you about life here at Catholic Central. Our newly established bus routes have proven to be successful thus far, with more than 40 current students taking advantage this service. With our Admissions Office promoting the bus option to potential families, we are looking forward to seeing where this program goes. As always, we offer a tremendous amount of gratitude to the donors who made the bus routes possible. We are now the proud owners of the full property between the two campus entrances on Wixom Road. The two houses that were there have been cleared, and you can look forward to seeing continued improvements along our campus frontage. Boys’ Bowl was a great success this year, as have been the numerous alumni events held so far this year. It is always great to see so many of you on campus, and our hope is that you continue to find yourselves at home here. While we are focused on continually improving life on campus for our current students, we hope to also grow our alumni programming to help our CC community stay connected. Watch for new ideas such as our first annual “40 under 40” to be unveiled in the near future. Your continued support of our annual fund and endowment allows Catholic Central to look to its future. As we approach the end of our calendar year, we hope you will consider Catholic Central as part of your year-end charitable gifts. While we are excited about the potential of our campus and our many programs, we continue to remain firmly rooted in our tradition of teaching young men Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge. Staying Connected With Your Classmates THE PSYCHEDELIC ’60s 1961 - JOHN LOMBARDI and his wife, Susan, recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. Many CC brothers gathered at a vineyard in Leelanau to celebrate.

THE TECHNO ’80s 1980 - CHRIS SABO was named Head Coach of the newly restored baseball program at the University of Akron in October 2018. The Akron baseball program, which was eliminated after the 2015 season, will begin its first season of play under Coach Sabo in 2020. Chris was inducted into the CC Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008. 1981 - JOHN RADTKE visited CC on October 4, 2019, to speak to the Board of Directors of the CC Finance Club. John is a successful businessman and financier who resides in Pompano Beach, Florida.

1968 - JIM GIBBONS, who volunteers at CC as Archivist and Chairman of the Athletic Hall of Fame Committee, ran into Zach Bowling ’14 at historic Blarney Castle while vacationing in Ireland. Zach was wearing his CC swag which prompted a conversation and some CC camaraderie. THE GROOVY ’70s 1979 - BOB LESSNAU is the Director of Animal Operations at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, overseeing animal operations and personnel. He is also involved in conservation research focusing on neotropical primates such as the Howler monkeys in Costa Rica and Capuchin monkeys at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama. Previously, he was Mammal Curator at the Detroit Zoo. Prior to that, he was Senior Primatologist for the Wildlife Conservation Society in New York City based out of St. Catherine’s Island, Georgia, which was a satellite facility for the Bronx Zoo.

1988 - JIM NITKIEWICZ is still in the pool competing in the US Masters Swimming circuit. After 6th and 7th place finishes in the 200yd Freestyle and 200yd Medley relays at the USMS Spring National Championship in Mesa, Arizona, in April, Jim went on to the FINA World Masters Swimming Championship in Gwangju, South Korea, in August, placing 22nd in the 200m Freestyle, 27th in the 100m Freestyle, and 30th in the 50m Freestyle events for the 45-49 year age group. THE HAPPENING ’90s 1994 - MATTHEW McGIVNEY was appointed a Judge to the 44th Circuit Court in Livingston County by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in June.

THE VIRTUAL ’00s 2001 - CRAIG McMICHAEL and his wife, Mary, welcomed their first child, Clover Anne, on November 9, 2019. She weighed 5 lbs., 1 oz. and measured 19 inches. Craig is a teacher and lacrosse coach at CC.

2001 - AARON PETRAS was promoted to Executive Vice President of Global Operations for WE Communications. Aaron, his wife Corinne, and their two children moved to Singapore for the role and will live abroad for two years.

2004 - JOE SCHIAVI celebrated his wedding at the Fraser River Lodge in British Columbia on May 26, 2019. The bride is Rachel Marie Brown. Joe and Rachel reside in Miami, Florida, where Joe is currently working for the Miami Marlins, and Rachel is a veterinarian.

2008 - PATRICK CARROLL was married to Meghan Ort on Friday, August 16, 2019, at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. The marriage was officiated by Fr. John Wheeler, C.S.B. ’57.

2013 - MIKE MOTT graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2017. He has branched Armor and is currently deployed in Kuwait with the 3rd Brigade Combat team, 4th Infantry Division, US Army, currently serving as Platoon Leader in the 4/10 Recon Squadron. Michael is expecting to return to Fort Carson in Colorado in December.

2014 - ZACHARY RACINE is a 2018 graduate of Michigan State University. He completed Army Officer Candidate School in June 2019 and is now a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Corp of Engineers with his sights set on Sapper School in the spring (Elite Engineering Leadership Course). 2015 - BAILEY PAXTON is a senior at Michigan State University and a member of the Honors College who is pursuing a finance degree. He was one of 18 young innovators around the country who was awarded a Future Founders Fellowship in 2019. Bailey is the founder of AgileCare, which is an all-in-one communication platform that empowers care teams to provide consistent, continuous data-driven care. The AgileCare Solutions Platform brings hand-written communication logs into the digital age, allows home care workers and other members of the care team to share vital information and best practices, and increase knowledge of the client’s life, values, and preferences so that person-centered care is provided. These improvements can divert costly adverse events while improving the quality of care and life. The AgileCare Solutions platform will have a profound impact on longterm care delivery, cost, and outcomes. 2018 - RORY COX is in his second year at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He recently had two of his poems published in The Labyrinth, the Academy’s Magazine of Midshipmen Art and Literature.

Alumni Reminisce on School Days Gone By

While fall brings the excitement of the start of a new school year, and spring brings new life and the page turning on another class of CC graduates, winter is when the hard work gets done at CC. Fortunately, at a place like our alma mater, the ominous tone of “Winter is Coming” is not feared, but embraced.

But CC is also a great oasis during this time, as the slow, slushy drive into school, sometimes from 20 or more miles away, leads to a home of friendship, compassion, and scholarship for the 1,000 young men who go there every day. Our outstanding tradition of academic excellence, athletic prowess, and extracurricular fun doesn’t just happen on their own; they are earned again every year through the teaching, learning, and training which occurs, especially during the long winter months.

Through the amazing generosity of many alumni, our school is now debt free for the first time in a long, long while. Class of 1969 Celebrates 50th Reunion During Boys’ Bowl Homecoming Weekend The Class of 1969 came out in large numbers and from all over the country to celebrate its golden anniversary of graduation as sons of Mary, Alma Mater. A large dose of CC camaraderie, memories, updates, stories, and laughter were shared. A big thank you goes out to Greg Faubert ’69, Larry Gauthier ’69, and all the classmates who helped plan and organize this grand gathering. A job well done, guys! Here’s to your next 50 years!

Shamrocks In Chicago Reunion On September 11, 2019, over 35 Shamrocks gathered in Chicago to remember what makes CC and America great! The spirit and grit of the Shamrocks and America were on display at the neighborhood gathering spot of Sheffield’s. An extra large dose of CC camaraderie, fellowship, stories, and laughs were shared by all! Every day is a great day to be a Shamrock and an American!

Boys’ Bowl Homecoming Reunion Weekend Unites the CC Family and Community Boys’ Bowl is special. Since its inception, Boys’ Bowl, like many great ideas that become a reality, has a vision and leader. Fr. James Martin, C.S.B. was that visionary and leader for Detroit Catholic Central. His vision was to pit the best football team in Michigan, our Shamrocks, against arguably the best football team in the country, Fr. Flannigan’s Boys Town. He also wanted to raise money for local charities, bring people together, and help CC grow out to the northwest side of the city to what would become the campus on 6565 West Outer Drive. His vision and leadership brought the CC family and surrounding communities together. Today, 75 years after the first Boys’ Bowl Football Game on October 22, 1944 (a 14-14 tie in front of 44,000 eager fans who packed Briggs Stadium), the vision is the same...help people, bring people together, compete and strive to win an important football game, and continue our mission of teaching young men Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge. This year’s Boys’ Bowl Homecoming Reunion Weekend was celebrated on September 27-29, 2019. Alumni came back home to attend class reunions and many exciting events and activities hosted at the school. Many alumni and CC family members were able to experience such events and activities as the annual Shamrock Shuffle where students run and raise dollars for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan, the annual Boys’ Bowl Assembly Friday morning, the Robotics Team Car Show Saturday afternoon, the All Classes Reunion and Roktoberfest Saturday evening, the annual Boys’ Bowl Mass & Breakfast and Athletic Hall of Fame Inductions Sunday morning, and the weekend culmination with the 75th Annual Boys’ Bowl Football Game Sunday afternoon, a 7-3 victory for the Shamrocks over Brother Rice! Thank you to all the alumni who came back home. Thank you to the reunion chairmen, representatives, and classmates who made every reunion gathering possible, keeping the CC brotherhood and camaraderie alive and well! Live and Die for CC High!

Shamrocks In Texas Reunion The annual Shamrocks in Texas Reunions took place in two locations this year. On Saturday, November 2nd the Shamrocks in Houston gathered at Keon House, the Basilian Fathers Residence on the campus of the University of St. Thomas. CC Alumni Association Softball League (AASL) 2019 Season Recap and 2020 Sign-up Information

12th Annual Retreat For Men The CC Alumni Association is hosting its annual Retreat For Men at St. Paul of the Cross on January 10-12, 2020. Beginning with dinner at 6:00 pm on Friday evening, January 10th, and concluding with Mass at Noon on Sunday, January 12th, come relax and explore our Catholic faith in a personal way. All alumni, current students, dads, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, nephews, and cousins are welcome and encouraged to attend and participate. This is a casual and excellent opportunity to: • Slow down and have personal time to reflect • Gain peace and reconciliation • Renew and refresh yourself spiritually, mentally, and physically • Ask God’s help with important decisions and pressing

Thank you to all the CC alumni, dads, and family members who made the 2019 season of the Alumni Association Softball League (AASL) such a great success! Season 6 of the AASL had some great moments, culminating with the crowning of a new league champion. Congratulations to Team Vista Hills who earned the championship having to go through 3-time defending champion, Team Babicz. A rivalry has emerged in the AASL! The AASL started six years ago and consists of teams made up of CC alumni, dads, and family members. There is great CC camaraderie displayed amongst players and teams. A special thank you to Isaac Hester ’04, John Dwyer ’09, and Aaron Babicz ’93 for organizing and running the AASL. Also, thank you to the CC Baseball Staff, Athletic Department, Maintenance Crew, and all the players for taking care of our fields. Season 7 of the AASL starts in late May of 2020. All games are played on CC’s campus. For this coming season, the teams will be comprised of CC alumni, fathers of alumni, and/or current CC dads. Annual Alumni Association Memorial Mass & Breakfast The CC Alumni Association Memorial Mass & Breakfast was held on October 27, 2019. This annual Mass and breakfast is in correlation with The Feast of All Saints. As a CC community, we come together to remember and honor those alumni and family members who have passed away. This year, over 250 people were in attendance. Fr. Mike Buentello, C.S.B. presided over the Mass, with President Emeritus, Fr. Dick Elmer, C.S.B. ’46, and Fr. Jim O’Neill, C.S.B. concelebrating. Dennis Barnes ’79 - State Bar of Michigan President Denny has served on the State Bar of Michigan Board of Commissioners since 2010 and has served as treasurer, secretary, vice president, and president-elect. He is also a past president of the Federal Bar Association’s Eastern District of Michigan chapter, a fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation, and a member of the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society, the Oakland County Bar Association, the Incorporated Society of Irish American Lawyers, and the Shamrock Bar Association.

Dennis Barnes ’79 was sworn in as the 85th President of the State Bar of Michigan by Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Bridget Mary McCormack during a ceremony at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi on September 26, 2019. The State Bar of Michigan was established in 1935 and has over 46,000 members. Denny is an attorney and member of Barris, Sott, Denn, & Driker, PLLC, where his practice is focused on complex business litigation, professional malpractice defense, insurance coverage, and alternative dispute resolution.

Denny is a proud graduate of Catholic Central of the Class of 1979. Denny comes from a family with generations of CC ties. His father, Bob Barnes ’56, is a prominent CC alumnus who also served CC on the Alumni Association Board of Directors and was recognized with the Fr. Canning Harrison Alumnus of the Year Award in 2019. He is the nephew of the late Fr. Joe Barnes, C.S.B. ’49, who was a teacher and Athletic Director at CC. His brother, Robert, graduated in 1978. After graduation, Denny earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Hillsdale College and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Notre Dame Law School. Denny and his wife, Elizabeth, reside in Commerce Township. They are the parents of Chris ’07, Joe ’08, Erin, and Colleen. Denny currently serves Catholic Central as a member of both the Alumni Association Board of Directors and the School Board of Directors. He is also an avid photographer and has generously served as an unofficial photographer for many CC events and athletic teams, providing the school and our families with wonderful photos free of charge.

Matt Cullen ’74 CEO of Bedrock Detroit After Matt graduated from the University of Michigan, he began working for General Motors, and eventually became part of the re-visioning of the Renaissance Center, making it more welcoming and more accessible to all.

Fast forward to 2008, when Matt began working for Dan Gilbert who had big plans for the city. Matt was born and raised a Detroiter in a multi-generational Detroit family, and he felt committed to the city. His work became a blend of his background and his profession. “I had a great educational foundation, first from my family, growing up in St. Mary’s of Redford Parish, and then at CC, with the constancy of “Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge.”

Matt is the CEO of Bedrock Detroit and is leading a team that is in the process of renewing the Detroit Riverfront. This project will include greenspaces, sports facilities, open entertainment areas, boardwalks and a swimming cove. The span will reach from the Ambassador Bridge to east of Belle Isle. The work of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy will bring many visitors to the city, but more importantly will make Detroit a place that many more will want to call their hometown. Matt’s hard work, keen insight, and relentless enthusiasm for his city are the forces behind the success that the Conservancy is already experiencing.

Evan Ambrose ’07 and Zach Fairchild ’07 Co-directors of Hostel Detroit Evan and Zach bumped into each other after college when they each were working for non-profits in the neighborhoods of Detroit.

Evan and Zach spent the next few years getting to know the strengths and the needs of the city. During this time, they also came across Hostel Detroit, and saw its potential and what it could do for the city. Four and a half years ago, the two members of the CC class of 2007 became its co-directors and began a vision for its future. Hostel Detroit is in the Corktown neighborhood of the city of Detroit. It is a non-profit organization whose mission is to “work to educate travelers about the past, present, and future of the city of Detroit. We seek to create experiential connections between Detroiters and visitors to foster creativity and a global understanding of an often misunderstood city.” In the eight years of its existence, it has hosted over 17,000 visitors from over 80 countries. These visitors are mostly students and young people in town for job interviews. The hostel can host up to 36 travelers at a time, and a team of volunteers give free tours of the city. There are plans for Hostel Detroit’s future that include a café and event space that would be open to the public. Zach also said they’re planning a video-based, internet radio station that “seeks to show Detroit’s music scene and culture to the world and to create a community space based around this music.”

The young men have a missionary zeal for the city and credit their enthusiasm to the spirit and quest for excellence they experienced while students at CC. Evan reflected that the main goal of Hostel Detroit is that, “We want everyone who stays here to want to come back to Detroit.”

leadership, a most significant milestone was achieved. As you recall in September 2013, we launched Mary, Alma Mater: Teach Us To Be Men (The Campaign for CC Students) – the most comprehensive major funding program we have ever initiated – most comprehensive in its goals and funding priorities, all aimed at one goal: That no young man be denied a CC education based upon his financial circumstances. Central to this campaign was the fulfillment of the Building Fund – the payment of the mortgage for our Novi Building & Campus. This was the year! The mortgage has been paid! Additionally, the other goals of the Campaign were achieved: Increased Endowment for Student Financial Aid and Faculty Compensation, Technology Enhancements, Improved Campus Safety with the addition of the North Parking Lot and the Tennis Parking Lot. Donors to the Teach Campaign are acknowledged on Page 50 of this President’s Report. All who were asked responded – an incredible example of the fidelity and devotion of our community. l i f e t i m e g i v i n g of $ 2 5 , 0 0 0 + Detroit Catholic Central High School was founded in 1928 when 260 young men attended the first day of classes at a humble all-boys Catholic high school led by the Fathers of the Congregation of St. Basil. The Mission of CC and the Basilian Fathers was simple - to teach young men the virtues of Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge. Little did those priests and students know of the unparalleled educational tradition that was about to begin. In 1990, the Mission of CC found a face and a voice like never before when Fr. Richard Elmer, C.S.B. ’46 returned to his Alma Mater to become Director of Alumni Relations & Development. Prior to his return, Fr. Elmer had served CC as a teacher, counselor, athletic director, vice principal, and principal. In 2000, Fr. Elmer became CC’s first President, and his vision for the future of CC changed the course of our history forever. The Fr. Richard Elmer Society was formed in 2014 to recognize Fr. Elmer’s contributions and to honor our alumni, family, and friends who have demonstrated their dedication to the Mission of Detroit Catholic Central High School.

This year, Catholic Central celebrates its 91st Anniversary. Through all these years, CC has held fast to its mission of teaching Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge. Here’s what you, not the IRS, gain by donating those shares to CC – a DOUBLE TAX BENEFIT: No Capital Gains Tax, PLUS, if you itemize, a Charitable Tax Deduction of the Full Current Market Value! 3. IRA - Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) - for us alumni 70-1/2 or older, we must take the annual RMD from our IRAs and pay ordinary income tax on the RMD amount. With the new tax law’s standard deduction at $12,200 per person ($24,400 per couple) in 2019, plus an extra $1,300 for husband and wife over 65, many of us will no longer be itemizing deductions, including charitable deductions, on our tax returns. So, if you will be taking the standard deduction, any portion of your RMD donated to a qualified charity (CC) reduces your adjusted gross income by the amount donated and eliminates the ordinary income tax on the portion donated. The Other Christmas Story by Fr. William Riegel, C.S.B.

“AND JOSEPH WOKE UP AND DID WHAT THE LORD ASKED!” -Matthew 1:24 The very busy fall season here at CC has moved to that Season of Advent/ Christmas/Epiphany. During Advent, we have, once again, listened to the promises made by God and now are about to celebrate their fulfillment: “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.” -Hebrews 1:1-3 I love the atmosphere here at the school before the Christmas break, thanks to the Mothers’ and Dads’ Clubs who make our house so festive. In spite of all the commercialism today, we continue to focus on the reason our school exists: Jesus Christ! We are all familiar with Luke’s story of that first Christmas (Mary, angels, shepherds, the inn, and the animals, the child). But we also have another Christmas story…that of Matthew. This story focuses on the figure of Joseph. This year, I invite you to enter into this account. I believe it is particularly important that we do this, as Joseph can certainly be that figure for the CC man. Man of Faith (Righteous): Matthew notes that Joseph was indeed a man that valued his close relationship to God as a pious Jew. He kept the “Law” and saw it as God’s great gift and lived it in his life. His faith (and trust in God) allowed him to set aside all his own plans and accept a child that would never be his own. Obedient: Joseph was so grounded in his faith that he carried out all the commands God revealed to him. He became the “model” of a foster parent. Sensitive/Compassionate: Knowing that the law allowed him to divorce his wife (publicly “shaming” Mary) was indeed his right BUT

chose to do this “quietly” so to save Mary (and the family) this embarrassment. This quality of compassion is certainly one that every man ought to embrace. Refugee: In our day when millions of refugees are displaced because of war, violence, and poverty, we are reminded that he too, with Mary and the child, had to flee persecution and make the dangerous trip to Egypt. They lived in exile until it was safe for them to return (not to Bethlehem) to Nazareth. Today, this Joseph challenges us to value the immigrant and welcome them. Provider: Once established in Nazareth, Joseph worked his “trade” as carpenter, in order to make sure Mary and Jesus would be provided for. Humility: We think of this as being “small,” but I might suggest that it is that quality of knowing who you are (both gifts and faults) and knowing who you are not (God!). AA has a great insight into this in saying, “one is comfortable in one’s skin.” Joseph is just this—one who knows he is just one part of the great story of salvation and willing to accept this while quietly fading from the scene. Prayer: Joseph was a major influence on Jesus in his formative years. With Mary, he taught Jesus how to pray and stressed his identity as a Jew. So much of Jesus as an adult was certainly formed in the religious practice of that home. Joseph is the model of the CC man - one who strives to be that person of faith, strongly following Christ on the journey, faithful to his vocation of discipleship, and aware of the need to reach out to touch Christ in the poor, homeless, and the refugee. In this great Season of Lights and knowing that God has fulfilled all of the promises He has made to us—in this time of Christ-Mass— may we all become more of what this great man has taught us and challenges us to imitate.

He can look at things realistically, he is in touch with his surroundings, and he can make truly wise decisions. Shamrock Shuffle For more than 30 years, the Catholic Central family has been participating in a 1.5 mile run for charity known as the Shamrock Shuffle. For more than 20 years, we have partnered with Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan. On the Friday of Boys’ Bowl week, CC students, faculty, and staff walked and ran in the Shamrock Shuffle and raised $8,778.00 for Make-A-Wish. In total over the last 20+ years, CC has raised $170,798.87 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan. We would like to thank Mr. Steve Lemieux for organizing this event, Mr. Tony Magni and the Cross Country Team for all of their efforts, and all those who donated for their generosity.

College Board Recognizes 54 Catholic Central Advanced Placement Scholars for 2017-2018 School Year The College Board recognized 54 Catholic Central Students as Advanced Placement Scholars for the 2019 test year. 33 members of the Class of 2019 and 20 members of the Class of 2020 achieved the required scores. As a part of the curriculum structure at Catholic Central, any student with a 3.6 GPA and teacher recommendation is able to take an AP course. Every student in an AP course takes part in the national AP test at the end of the school year. The test is used to gauge whether or not college credits will be awarded, which is determined by individual colleges based on their standards. Traditionally, a score of 3 or higher will be accepted by most schools as college credit.

Canned Food Drive The Student Council hosted the annual Canned Food Drive the last week of October through the first week of November. CC students, faculty, and staff were most generous in collecting $3,500 and over 6,500 food items. The collection will benefit Loaves & Fishes of Southwest Detroit and the Northville Civic Concern.

1979 and 2009 Football State Championship Teams Honored

“The magic is in believing.” “48 Minutes for a lifetime.” “What the mind can conceive, the body can achieve.” Every Shamrock who played for Hall of Fame Coach Tom Mach has heard these words with the expectation to live them. To the Shamrocks who have proudly worn the interlocking CC, these are more than words; they are a mindset. On Friday, October 11th, Detroit Catholic Central honored the 1979 and 2009 Football State Championship Teams, Coach Mach’s first and last, during halftime of the varsity football game against Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, an exciting 20-14 victory for the Shamrocks! The 1979 team was ranked 1st in the state preseason and went 12-0, defeating Escanaba 32-7 in the 1979 MHSAA Class A State Championship Game. They ended the season ranked 8th in the nation.

The 2009 team went 14-0 and defeated Sterling Heights Stevenson 31-21 in the 2009 MHSAA Division 1 State Championship Game. They ended the season ranked 15th in the nation. We would like to thank Coach Mach, the players, the coaches, and their families for coming out and showing yet again, why every day is a great day to be a Shamrock!

Keeping Up with Catholic Central Athletes

Cross Country - 9th in the State The Varsity Cross Country Team, led by Coach Tony Magni, had a tremendous season. The Shamrocks won both the Sturgis and CC Invitationals and earned top-5 finishes in four additional Invitationals, including a 3rd place finish at the Oakland County Championship. Furthermore, CC finished 4-0 in league dual meets, won their second-straight Catholic League Championship, and won the Regional Championship for the first time since 2008. The season came to an end with a 9th place finish at the State Finals at Michigan International Speedway. Luke Perelli ’20 earned individual all-state honors with a 10th place finish out of 245 runners.

2019 Varsity Cross Country Team

Soccer The Varsity Soccer Team, led by Coach Gene Pulice, started the season by winning the Balconi Invitational and finished the regular season with a 2-1-3 record in the Catholic League. CC entered the postseason and won the District Championship with exciting victories over Brighton, Howell, and South Lyon. The season came to an end in the Regional Championship with a 2-1 loss to local rival Novi.

2019 Varsity Soccer Team

Tennis – 10th in the State The Varsity Tennis Team, led by Coach Robbie Risdon, continued the tradition of Shamrock excellence. CC won the Salem Invitational to start the season and finished 2nd at the Saline Invitational, while navigating through an always difficult Catholic League schedule. The Shamrocks finished 5th in the Catholic League, where Mauricio Barrera ’20 finished 2nd in #3 Singles. CC finished 3rd at the

Regional Championship to qualify for the State Finals in Midland. Jack Callaghan ’20 won the Regional Championship in #2 Singles. In the finals, CC competed hard, advancing multiple players to day two. The #4 Doubles team of Ned Curley ’23 and Nick Maynard ’22 advanced to the semifinals

Football For the first time in school history, the CC football schedule featured all nine opponents that were eventual playoff caliber teams with a combined regular season win total of 65 wins, 16 losses, and (.802%) win percentage.
