Welcome to our Lower School Summer Camp Program! My name is Marta Krussman, and I am the Summer Camp Director for the Lower School
Education with a Purpose
With a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Development and 19 years of experience at DCDS, I am excited to help your family have a fantastic summer Please email me at MKrussman@dcdsedu with any questions or concerns Our campus offers summer camps for children entering PK 33rd grade that are instructed by our very own DCDS educators. Our program runs for 6 weeks, and camps are offered on a weekly basis from 9 a.m. - 2:50 p.m. Before and aftercare programs are available for an

Each camp has a 1 to 10 student ratio, which allows the teacher to connect with each child In the morning, children discover their camp topic through exploratory instruction In the afternoon, children investigate our outdoor playground and water activities Weekly themes may incorporate a range of skills, including but not limited to: reading, science, math, cooking, nature, sports, arts, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) activities
POLICIESANDPROCEDURES
All children must be completely potty trained per state licensing requirements
All grades listed in the catalog pertain to the grade of the child in the 2026-2027 school year
Children must be within the grade range listed for the camp in order to participate. If children are not within the appropriate range, they will not be eligible to participate
Campers who are registering for a camp designated for PK3 must be three years old on the first day of the camp for which they are registered
Water play will be offered daily Please pack a bathing suit, sunscreen, water bottle, and a towel every day
All campers need to bring a nut-free morning & afternoon snack and lunch each day.
Parents will drop off and pick up students at the Maple Road Campus by the entrance labeled “Summer Camp” The faculty will be waiting to greet and escort children into and out of the school
All camps have a minimum enrollment of eight (8) campers that must be met in order to run; therefore, we must adhere to the following policies regarding cancellations Please understand that cancellation fees are necessary to cover financial commitments to our faculty and staff, as well as the cost of camp materials
Any cancellations must be requested in writing and sent to MKrussman@dcdsedu
Cancellations made more than 14 days before the start of the camp will incur a $50 cancellation fee The balance of the camp fee will be refunded
Cancellations made between 7 and 14 days before the start of the camp will incur a 50% cancellation fee. There is no refund for cancellations made less than 7 days before the start of the camp
If a child is removed from a camp for disciplinary reasons or isn’t displaying skills for camp readiness, there will be no refund
For the safety of our learning community, students must be prepared to transition independently to their teachers and remain with their group.
If Detroit Country Day School must cancel a camp due to low enrollment, we will make every effort to place your child into another available program You will be notified via email with alternative camp options or to receive a full refund
If a camp day is cancelled due to a power outage, building problem, or natural event, any make-up sessions will be at the discretion of the camp director and availability of space/teaching staff. No refunds will be issued.

Weekly camp sessions start the week of June 15 and run for six weeks ending on July 24
There is no camp on Friday, June 19th and no camp on Friday, July 3rd
Camps are held from 9:00 AM - 2:50 PM Monday through Friday.
Before Care Hours: 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM $75 per week
After Care Hours: 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM $75 per week
Late Pick-up Fee (payable upon pick-up): $10 per 10-minute interval
*PLEASE NOTE: Campers will need to bring a nut-free lunch and morning & afternoon snack, towel, bathing suit, water shoes, water bottle, and sunscreen. Each camp will need at least 8 campers registered to take place. If not, the camp will be canceled a week in advance, and you will receive a full refund.

My name is Jonathan Napper, and I have been a teacher at all levels for over 25 years, with a majority of my teaching career at the elementary and middle school levels I have a Master of Arts in Arts Administration from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Music in Education from Western Michigan University I am looking forward to an amazing summer of learning and experiences for our students and faculty I am most easily reached at jnapper@dcdsedu with any questions or concerns
Our Upper School summer academic, fine, and performing art programs provide students with opportunities for enrichment or course credit Students walk away gratified to know they opened their schedules to allow for additional and diverse electives or have a credit requirement met
Middle School math, reading, foreign language, STEAM, art, dance, study skills, and leadership opportunities provide students in grades 4-8 with the time, space, and program to develop a battery of academic, life, and leadership skills Students work alongside faculty from a wide range of disciplines and interests to engage students in fun and meaningful lessons and activities.

For the past 15+ years, DCDS has provided athletic camps and leagues to help guide elementary-age children to their athletic pathways As we are committed to helping children of all ages develop teamwork, sportsmanship, technical skills, and an enthusiasm for athletics, we look forward to continuing this initiative to include our surrounding community with our athletic offerings through the DCDS Sports Academy.

Clay, papier-mache, found objects, wood scraps, wire, popsicle sticks, and natural objects will all be used to create an array of exciting three-dimensional projects Bring your imagination to this dynamic 3D building course Projects include: Popsicle stick wall hanging or mobile, Found object sculpture, Non-objective sculpture in wire, papier-mache hot air balloon, Environmental sculpture using sticks and rocks, marshmallow structures, pinch pot monsters or cupcake, fairy houses Come ready to sharpen your problem-solving skills and have AMAZING fun!

Join Mrs Nanes on a TWO-WEEK musical theatre adventure We will audition, sing, dance, act, build sets and props and design costumes culminating in a full musical performance of Annie Kids at 1:30 on Friday, July 24th. Everyone enrolled gets a part, everyone has a great time contributing to art, and EVERYONE PRACTICES READING OUT LOUD OVER AND OVER AGAIN without even noticing that it’s what we’re working on If your child loves to be dramatic, has creative and cool ideas and wants a great adventure this summer, this is the camp for you! DCDS WINDJAMMER SAILING CAMP - 11 SESSIONS OFFERED (GRADES 1 - 12)
Learn to sail, or advance your skills, this summer on Cass Lake This class includes learning water safety, parts of a sailboat, wind direction, basic sailing direction, and STEM education The majority of the class time is spent gaining experience on the water in program supplied Optimists, Bics, or 420 two-handed sailboats No experience needed! Participants will be separated by age and skill level to ensure that all children will be provided age-appropriate and experienced instruction This program is directed by DCDS Sailing Coach, Eric Ellison, who also directs the Community Sailing School Foundation, CSSF, which is Southeast Michigan’s premiere Junior Sailing Program. The program takes place on Cass Lake. Have fun on the lake this summer while learning how to sail and enjoy other water activities.
