Renter information pack

Detector Inspector has been engaged by Uniting Housing to complete important and legally required safety checks at your property. These checks may include one or all of smoke alarm, electrical and gas safety checks to ensure compliance and your safety at the property. As such, this pack contains important information relating to these services.

Our people

We pride ourselves on giving people opportunities and being experts in compliance.

We employ all our electricians, plumbers, gas fitters and apprentices and we sponsor their training in our own, best-of-breed facility where we support them to achieve the accreditation required to complete the safety checks and to provide them with the specialised training to complete those checks the Detector Inspector way.

In 2022 alone, we provided over 14,000 hours of on-site training to develop our field services team’s knowledge of the specialist services we provide.

Every service team member uses Detector Inspector’s Technician App to complete their work. The app provides detailed workflows that have been developed, refined and optimised through the completion of close to 500,000 services in the past 12 months alone.

Those workflows ensure the capture of critical photos and notes that facilitate service quality assessment by service team leaders and an important audit trail that protects rental providers in the case of an incident at the property.

Smoke alarm service

Includes smoke, button and decibel tests on each alarm, checking and replacing batteries as required, verifying alarm location and checking whether alarms need to be replaced.

Gas service

Includes checks of your main gas line and each owner supplied gas appliance for carbon monoxide leaks and other faults.

Every 2 years

Average 90 minutes - 2 hours

Electrical service

Includes checks of owner supplied electrical appliances, installations and fittings including earth loop and polarity tests of all accessible power points.

Every 2 years

Average 90 minutes - 2 hours

The mains power at the property must be intermittently switched on and off during the service.

Safety services at your home

We make safer homes. That’s our purpose and it drives our team every day. Please help us by noting the following:

• Do immediately contact us to report any faults or problems

• Don’t install, remove, deactivate or tamper with any owner supplied appliances including smoke alarms, gas appliances, electrical appliances

Requesting an urgent service

We have developed an Urgent Jobs Framework for when things go wrong with smoke alarms, gas and electrical appliances. This framework consists of specific actions and response times.

You can request an urgent service for prompt assistance with:

• Sirening, beeping or non-operational smoke alarms

• Electrical safety concerns

• Faults with power points / light switches / switchboard

• Gas safety concerns i.e., gas leaks

• Faults with gas heaters, hot water and other gas appliances
