Pros of a DJ:

A good DJ will read the crowd and know what to play to get them moving and create a party atmosphere. Due to the massive quantity of music available, DJs can accommodate an eclectic range of styles and tastes and have an easier time taking requests. Depending on the demographic of your guest list, you may need someone who can switch from bluegrass to alternative to pop to rap. Experienced DJs are also often able to step in as MC later on in the evening. A DJ has the ability to set up a playlist so the party doesn’t have to stop if they need to step away for a washroom break. They will usually come with all of the lights and setup that you need to get the party rolling and typically have a lower price point than a live band.

Pros of a Live Band:

Hiring a live band provides a one-of-a-kind intimate performance on your day. They may not be able to switch gears and perform a variety of musical styles, but they will perform their signature style very well. A live band will take care of the playlist so you don’t need to worry about your relatives requesting cringy songs. The energy of live music is unlike anything else, and a really good band will blow you away with their versatility and performance. If you’re having a tough time deciding, it is absolutely an option to have both! Start off with soft live music during the meal and cocktail hour and then switch to a DJ later in the evening for the dance.
