Dr.'Linda'R.'Moorhouse$joined$the$Illinois$faculty$in$the$fall$of$2010$ and$currently$serves$as$Associate$Director$for$Undergraduate$Affairs$ in$the$School$of$Music.$$She$also$holds$an$appointment$in$the$Bands$ Division$as$Senior$Associate$Director,$where$she$teaches$courses$in$ graduate$and$undergraduate$conducKng.$$Ensembles$under$her$ direcKon$have$been$featured$at$both$naKonal$and$regional$ conferences$of$the$College$Band$Directors$NaKonal$AssociaKon,$and$ the$2014$North$American$Saxophone$Alliance$InternaKonal$ Conference.$$While$Dr.$Moorhouse$is$a$proponent$of$new$music$for$ wind$band$and$has$been$part$of$several$commissioning$consorKums,$ she$believes$firmly$in$the$historical$value$of$the$wind$band's$ treasured$masterworks$and$their$importance$to$future$music$ educators.$$Prior$to$her$Illinois$appointment,$she$served$on$the$ faculty$at$Louisiana$State$University$for$over$20$years,$where$she$ was$the$recipient$of$select$campusOwide$awards$for$teaching$ excellence.$

Dr.$Moorhouse$is$acKve$as$a$conductor,$clinician$and$adjudicator$both$naKonally$and$internaKonally$and$her$ service$to$the$band$profession$is$a$maVer$of$record.$$She$is$a$member$of$the$Board$of$Directors$of$the$ presKgious$American$Bandmasters$AssociaKon,$and$is$both$a$past$president$and$the$current$ExecuKve$ Secretary$of$the$NaKonal$Band$AssociaKon,$where$she$also$serves$as$Editor$of$the$NBA$Journal.$Recognized$ internaKonally$as$a$Member(Laureate$of$Sigma$Alpha$Iota$(professional$fraternity$for$women$in$music),$she$ was$also$awarded$the$“Diploma$of$the$Sudler$Order$of$Merit”$from$the$John$Philip$Sousa$FoundaKon$in$ recogniKon$of$extraordinary$service$to$the$music$community.$$The$NaKonal$Band$AssociaKon$has$recognized$ her$contribuKons$to$bands$and$band$music$on$numerous$occasions$with$the$NBA$CitaKon$of$Excellence.$$She$is$ also$a$past$President$of$Women$Band$Directors$InternaKonal.$

In$addiKon$to$her$conducKng$and$teaching$obligaKons,$Dr.$Moorhouse$has$several$notable$publicaKon$credits$ including$contribuKons$to$mulKple$volumes$of$both$the$Teaching(Music(Through(Performance(in(Band$(GIA)$ and$A(Composer’s(Insight$(Meredith$Music)$series,$along$with$other$Meredith$Music$publicaKons.$

Dr.$Moorhouse$received$a$Doctor$of$Musical$Arts$in$Instrumental$ConducKng$from$the$University$of$ Washington,$where$she$studied$with$Peter$Erös$and$Timothy$Salzman.$$She$has$a$Master$of$Music$EducaKon$ degree$from$LSU,$and$a$Bachelor$of$Music$EducaKon$with$Honors$degree$from$the$University$of$Florida.$$In$the$ fall$of$2010,$she$was$inducted$into$the$University$of$Florida$Bands$Hall$of$Fame.$

Lockport Bands ! ! ! !Located$thirtyOfive$miles$southwest$of$Chicago,$Lockport$Township$High$School$serves$students$from$the$ communiKes$of$Lockport,$Crest$Hill,$Fairmont,$Homer$Glen,$Lemont,$and$Orland$Park.$$Lockport$Township$High$ School$District$205$maintains$two$campuses$with$a$combined$enrollment$of$approximately$3,700:$a$Central$ ninth$grade$campus$and$an$East$campus$for$grades$ten$through$twelve.$$The$Freshman$Central$campus$opened$ in$1910,$and$the$East$Campus$opened$in$1964$with$addiKons$in$1998$and$2012.$$This$mix$of$historic$ significance$and$futurisKc$technology$that$students$are$exposed$to$at$our$campuses$gives$them$a$unique$ advantage$not$available$in$other$districts:$two$disKnct$buildings$with$the$same$goal$of$creaKng$a$nurturing$and$ challenging$environment$in$which$all$students$achieve$success.$$LTHS$is$ranked$in$the$top$nine$percent$of$all$ high$schools$in$the$naKon,$according$to$the$Washington$Post’s$rankings,$for$effecKvely$preparing$students$for$ college.$

The$Lockport$Township$High$School$Band$Program$has$enjoyed$a$long$history$of$success$and$community$ support.$$Notable$accomplishments$date$back$to$the$first$Director$of$Bands,$Ernest$Caneva,$who$led$them$to$ the$1962$“Music$Man”$NaKonal$Band$Championship.$$The$Marching$Band$was$also$featured$in$the$1986$hit$ film$“Ferris$Bueller’s$Day$Off.”$$Currently$the$Lockport$High$School$band$program$involves$250$students$in$five$ concert$ensembles,$compeKKve$and$nonOcompeKKve$marching$ensembles,$jazz$ensembles,$chamber$ ensembles,$pit$orchestra,$and$two$winter$guards.$$Considerable$emphasis$is$placed$on$individual$student$ progress$and$achievement.$$Each$year,$mulKple$band$members$are$selected$for$the$Illinois$Music$EducaKon$ AssociaKon$District$Honor$Band$and$Orchestra,$AllOState$Bands$and$Orchestras,$and$various$Chicagoland$Youth$ Orchestras.$

All$students$audiKon$into$the$Lockport$Band$Program,$being$placed$into$one$of$the$two$Freshman$ensembles$ or$into$the$three$Kered$East$Campus$ensembles.$$The$Concert$Band$and$Freshman$Ensembles$meet$daily$for$a$ fipyOfive$minute$period,$while$the$Symphonic$Band$and$the$Wind$Symphony$have$an$addiKonal$twentyOfive$ minute$daily$secKonal$period.$$In$addiKon$to$the$daily$curricular$rehearsal$schedule,$the$Wind$Symphony$ maintains$a$weekly$two$hour$evening$rehearsal.$$Every$member$of$the$program$is$encouraged$to$take$weekly$ private$lessons$available$during$the$curricular$day,$an$expectaKon$for$the$Wind$Symphony.$$The$ensemble$ aVends$eight$to$ten$fesKvals,$while$presenKng$upwards$of$sixteen$concerts$annually.$

In$recent$years$the$Wind$Symphony$has$earned$consistent$Superior$Division$RaKngs$at$state$organizaKon$ contests$and$performed$at$both$the$NaKonal$AssociaKon$for$Music$EducaKon$and$Illinois$Music$EducaKon$ Conferences.$$The$ensemble$has$performed$in$mulKple$recognized$worldOclass$concert$halls,$been$consistently$ selected$to$the$University$of$Illinois$Superstate$Concert$Band$FesKval,$and$has$made$five$appearances$at$the$ Music$for$All$NaKonal$Concert$Band$FesKval.$$In$2008,$the$Lockport$Band$Program$was$awarded$the$presKgious$ Sudler$Flag$from$the$John$Philip$Sousa$FoundaKon$recognizing$high$school$band$programs$demonstraKng$ significantly$high$standards$of$excellence$in$concert$acKviKes$over$a$period$of$several$years.$$In$2008$and$2013$ the$Lockport$Township$High$School$Wind$Symphony$was$invited$to$present$a$featured$performance$at$the$ Midwest$InternaKonal$Band$and$Orchestra$Clinic.$

Brian'Covey' Brian'Covey$is$the$Visual$and$Performing$Arts$Chairman$and$Director$of$ Bands$at$Lockport$Township$High$School.$$Mr.$Covey$was$appointed$ Director$in$2003$aper$serving$two$years$as$Associate$Director$of$Bands.$$ While$maintaining$the$Band$Department,$he$conducts$the$Wind$ Symphony$and$the$first$Freshman$Concert$Ensemble.$His$instrucKonal$ roles$also$include$overseeing$the$Marching$Porters,$Pep$Band,$and$ conducKng$the$Pit$Orchestra.$

Prior$to$joining$Lockport$High$School,$Mr.$Covey$aVended$the$University$ of$Illinois$at$UrbanaOChampaign$where$he$earned$his$Bachelor$of$Music$ EducaKon$degree.$$He$earned$a$Master$of$Music$EducaKon$degree$at$ VanderCook$College$of$Music,$and$a$second$Masters$in$EducaKonal$ AdministraKon$from$The$University$of$St.$Francis.$$Concert$ensembles$ under$Mr.$Covey’s$direcKon$have$performed$at$numerous$compeKKons$ and$fesKvals$throughout$the$state$and$country,$consistently$receiving$ Division$One$raKngs.$$The$Wind$Symphony$has$become$a$naKonally$ respected$ensemble$with$performance$highlights$at$the$Illinois$ Superstate$FesKval$at$the$University$of$Illinois$(every$year$since$2004),$the$NaKonal$AssociaKon$for$Music$ EducaKon$NaKonal$Conference,$the$Illinois$Music$EducaKon$Conference,$the$Meyerson$Symphony$Center,$ Chicago$Orchestra$Hall,$The$Music$for$All$NaKonal$Concert$Band$FesKval$(2006$and$2008),$The$World$ AssociaKon$for$Symphonic$Bands$and$Ensembles$InternaKonal$Conference,$and$The$Midwest$InternaKonal$ Band$and$Orchestra$Clinic.$$In$2008,$the$Lockport$Township$High$School$Band$Program$was$awarded$the$ presKgious$Sudler$Flag$of$Honor$from$the$John$Philip$Sousa$FoundaKon.$

Mr.$Covey$has$served$as$an$adjudicator$for$many$regional$and$Illinois$High$School$AssociaKon$Solo$and$ Ensemble$Contests,$Ensemble$Adjudicator$for$both$the$Illinois$High$School$AssociaKon$and$the$Illinois$Grade$ School$Music$AssociaKon,$and$clinician$to$area$schools$in$Illinois,$Iowa,$and$Virginia.$$He$holds$eleven$CitaKons$ of$Excellence$from$the$NaKonal$Band$AssociaKon,$serves$on$the$NaKonal$Band$AssociaKon’s$SelecKve$Music$ CommiVee,$been$awarded$the$“Chicagoland$Educator$of$the$Year”$from$Quinlan$and$Fabish$Music,$the$ “Mildred$Jackson$Lockport$Township$High$School$Teacher$of$the$Year$Award”,$and$was$highlighted$in$School$ Band$and$Orchestra$Magazine.$$He$is$a$member$of$the$NaKonal$AssociaKon$for$Music$EducaKon,$Phi$Mu$Alpha$ Sinfonia,$serves$on$the$Alumni$Board$for$VanderCook$College$of$Music,$is$the$Illinois$Music$EducaKon$ AssociaKon$District$I$President,$and$serves$on$the$NaKonal$Band$AssociaKon’s$Board$of$Directors$as$the$North$ Central$Division$Chair.$

SYM is one of the most highly regarded and wellknown summer music programs in the United States.

Large band, choral, and orchestral ensembles as well as intensive, specialized pre-college programs are available for senior and junior high participants.

Many programs offer elective study in conducting, didgeridoo, music technology, ukulele or one of several other options. Each seven-day session takes place on the Big Ten campus of the University of Illinois.

The$AllOIllinois$Junior$Band$was$founded$for$the$express$purpose$of$creaKng$a$premier$musical$experience$for$ the$state’s$finest$middle$school$band$students.$$As$the$first$statewide$middle$school$honor$band$in$over$half$a$ century,$membership$in$AIJB$is$determined$solely$through$compeKKve$blind$audiKons.$$Its$goals$are$to$provide$ an$opportunity$for$middle$school$students$to$perform$excellent$literature$with$a$mature$ensemble$and$ disKnguished$conductor,$to$interact$with$similarly$dedicated$student$musicians$from$around$the$State$of$ Illinois,$and$to$encourage$and$inspire$these$outstanding$young$musicians$to$conKnue$their$musical$studies.$
