LIVE THEATRE TO MARK EARTH DAY To celebrate this year’s ‘Earth Day’, the Drama Department connected with The Old Vic Theatre to watch the live stream of their production of The Lorax. Year 7 and 8 pupils watched the show from The Whitty Theatre and enjoyed the story of the Once-ller who leaves his home to seek his fortune. The Once-ller comes across Truffla Valley and meets The Lorax, who looks after and nurtures the trees. What unfolds is a colourful, engaging, yet chilling reminder to look after the environment that we live in. Amelie (Year 8) said “It was very clever and thoughtful in the way in which the performers thought through the story and message. I especially loved the rhyme in the performance.” Tate (Year 7) said “This was a very witty play which gave a valuable lesson to all who watched it.” The classes are now working on writing their own theatre reviews of the performance, which we look forward to reading!
STUNNING CAKE FOR FUTURE STARS Senior Drama students were treated to an amazing cake by Head, Mrs Bizior, to celebrate their recent win in the ISA Devised Drama Competition. The letters on the stars represent the first letter of each student’s name. The cake was created by local bakery My Little Patisserie. http://www.mylittlepatisserie.com/
NEW MENTORING SCHEME Over the past few months, the Senior Prefect Team has been working hard on setting up a mentoring scheme for Luckley. We’re really excited to announce that it’s now up and running! Pupils can decide which prefect that they want to talk to. All pupils can feel free to talk to us about anything – from things happening at school or at home or if you simply just want someone to chat to. The Senior Prefect Team felt that mentoring was something that was missing from Luckley, and we’re hoping that this new scheme will help us have better connections across year groups and develop our school’s sense of community. LUCKLEY YOUNG MUSICIAN/SINGER OF THE YEAR 2021 SEMI-FINAL RESULTS Last Friday saw a fabulous evening of musical performances from our semi-finalists. The evening was full of talent from start to finish and our two guest adjudicators, Sam Wyne and Jill Maltese (professional musicians and teachers) really had a tough decision deciding as to who should go through to the final. PUPILS IMPROVE LANGUAGES WITH ‘MEMRISE’
COMING UP AT
All MFL pupils have access to the website ‘Memrise’ to improve their languages vocabulary, within school and independently at home. Each month, the Languages Department creates a leaderboard for each language and for each year group, which will earn them House points. These points will accumulate to an overall winner at the end of the year. The winners also receive chocolates and achievement points.

Wed 19 May, 11.15am -12pm - Virtual author event with Patrice Lawrence, via Wokingham Libraries, sponsored by More Arts. This interactive event will be live streamed via Teams to Year 8 pupils during their English/Library lesson. Wed 19 May, 2pm- 4.30pm - Two teams of Year 7 and 8 pupils will compete in the regional heat of the National Reading Champions Virtual Quiz, (run by the National Literacy Trust), against 26 other teams from Oxfordshire and Berkshire. The winners will compete in the national final in June.

THIS WEEK’S WINNING BOOK REVIEW BY KIKI S, YEAR 8 ‘The Lost Hero’ By Rick Riordan This is the first book out of five in the Heroes of Olympus series and I rate this book 5 stars. I thought I wasn’t going to like this book nearly as much as the Percy Jackson series but I am shocked at how much I actually liked reading it. The book is about Jason who has lost his memory and doesn’t know who he is or where he came from and he ended up in the Wilderness School. Jason and his friends are about to discover what fate they have in the demi-god world. I really enjoyed reading this book because of the plot, the characters, how the book is written and the book is just funny in general. I learned a lot in this book, just like in the Percy Jackson series, because of the way Rick Riordan writes his books.
