LUCKLEY LIFE

NEWS FROM LUCKLEY HOUSE SCHOOL
GEOGRAPHERS VISIT THE BEACH On Monday 11 October, the Year 11 Geographers embarked on their GCSE Geography Fieldwork trip. It was a wonderful day in the sunshine. We arrived at Mudeford Beach, Christchurch Bay mid-morning, where students were able to implement their fieldwork skills. They used quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques, for example measuring beach profiles, conducting sediment analysis and field sketches. They also had the opportunity to see first hand and evaluate the coastal management strategies in place. After a picnic lunch on the beach, we went into Christchurch town centre and students conducted land use surveys, pedestrian counts and field sketches at specific locations in Christchurch, with the intention of exploring how tourism has affected the town centre. Overall, it was a lovely day in the sunshine with valuable skills gained which will be useful for their GCSE examination. Rachel McCulloch, Head of Geography
LUCKLEY LIBRARY LOVES... Five Little Liars by Amanda K. Morgan Lots of our pupils are currently addicted to crime fiction and this one will hit the mark for Years 9 and up. Five teens take a summer class in Psychology, taught by the universally disliked Dr Stratford. When he dies accidentally after class one evening the students are desperate to avoid blame. As they conspire to hide the body and cover their tracks they have to work out who they can trust and who they can’t. Full of black humour and unexpected twists, this was a quick and entertaining read. Rachel Maskelyne, Senior Librarian
