SUMMER READING CHALLENGE It seems that summer has arrived, and what better way to spend those long summer days relaxing in the garden, or better still on a beach, than with a great book? That’s why we are encouraging our students to take part in Luckley Library’s Summer Reading Challenge. We’d like pupils to read six books of their choice and if they are really keen they can try out the additional challenge of reading a further eight books from different genres. Challenge booklets will be sent home this week and there are plenty of reading suggestions in the Luckley Library Teams page under “Book lists”.

DofE SILVER ASSESSMENT EXPEDITION Friday 11 to Sunday 13 June saw our DofE Silver participants take part in their long awaited assessed expedition. Those days also saw the hottest weekend of the year so far! We had two groups from Year 10 and two groups from Year 11 being put through their paces in the West Berkshire countryside after several months of planning and a number of delays and postponements. All groups and individuals performed exceptionally, especially considering the demanding conditions and it’s fair to say that they also conducted themselves excellently throughout the walks and on the ‘camp’ site. Although we did not camp during the night, the groups cooked their evening meals and considered their performances from the day, evaluating what went well and areas to improve for the next day, before returning home ready for the following challenge. We are delighted that all participants have passed their Silver expedition section and are now looking forward to completing their remaining sections in order to receive their full award. Some are alreading talking about taking on the Gold award in Year 11 and 12. Congratulations to all and a special thank you to all the staff who gave up their weekend to support the expedition. This could not happen without them! Scot McNaughton, Outdoor Education
