LUCKLEY LIFE
17 DECEMBER 2021
NEWS FROM LUCKLEY HOUSE SCHOOL
VIRTUAL TRIP TO THE GERMAN SPEAKING WORLD While we can’t travel ourselves, Frau Hinz’s Year 9 class planned their very own trip to Vienna (Wien), Zurich (Zürich), Munich (München), Berlin and Vaduz! Five groups each researched one of these German-speaking cities and enjoyed observing life there via live webcams! In most of the places there was a beautiful layer of snow and this made everyone really eifersüchtig (jealous)! The students then went on to create beautiful leaflets based on real research and grammatical knowledge. They investigated the rules of the youth hostels they might stay in, the daily routine of people who might visit the city, local recipes, local maps and directions as well as any festivals that take place there....all auf Deutsch! These stunning leaflets now adorn the corridor of Woodlands, the MFL hub! Gut gemacht, Year 9! Ihr seid klasse!
VESPA STUDY SKILLS
SCIENCE PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
Year 11 students had their third VESPA Study Skills assembly on 10 December to explore effective revision systems ready for their mock examinations in January. Two Year 12 students, Erin L and Georgia S, recalled their own experience of this process and offered insightful guidance and a wide range of tried-and-tested revision techniques. Topics such as time-management, creating a designated study space and how to minimise distractions were discussed, together with various methods of creating a bespoke revision timetable. Students were reminded of the need to consider their wellbeing over the Christmas break and to set aside some time to enjoy the festivities with family and friends, in order to recharge after a long, busy and productive term. Paula Bell, Director of Learning Skills

LUCKLEY LIBRARY LOVES... Does my head look big in this? - Randa AbdelFattah A quirky, very funny, young adult novel about your average Australian teen navigating the highs and lows of everyday life – while wearing a hijab. This book is a touching comedy about one girl’s exploration into her own faith identity and how that sits with the rest of her family and friends. A quick read, voted Australian Book of The Year for older children. Recommended for Year 7 up. Rachel Maskelyne, Senior Librarian
