Copper here reporting for pawfessional duty after a very busy spring term. I have been trotting from classroom to concert hall to theatre stage, and have lots to share Please have a treat ready while you read At the start of term, I ran an important meeting with my mates Moon and Teddy as we decided to enter BRUFTS for the first time Although we didn’t win, we had a lot of fun making videos to highlight all the cool things we do in school
I spent two weeks keeping an eye (and a nose) on our hardworking Year 11s and 13s during their mock exams I took my job very seriously by offering stress-relief wags, I’m proud to say the students handled their mocks with pawsitive determination
Then came the school production of Beauty and the Beast I tried to volunteer for the role of the Beast - after all, I have the fur for it - but apparently ‘Copper, please get off the stage’ was the final casting decision. The show was pawdroppingly good with dazzling costumes and magical singing. I was so happy to see how much everyone enjoyed themselves.
The Woodley Festival brought many of our musicians together with the chance to deliver some amazing songs, and oh my paws - the music was woofderful! Our talented musicians performed with such confidence, so much so that Luckley won all categories entered!
To finish with the annual Easter Egg hunt was a real treat I used all my finely-tuned sniffing skills to locate eggs and supervise humans locating eggs
It has been a wagnificent term filled with hard work, beautiful music, dazzling performances, and chocolate I was not allowed to eat I couldn’t be prouder of everyone at Luckley and I’m already warming up my tail for the summer term
Until then, I’ll be napping Professionally Copper
LOWER SCHOOL NEWS
Year 7 CSI Enrichment Day
Mrs Esther Brown, Head of Lower School
Our Year 7 pupils, joined by prospective pupils from other schools, enjoyed an exciting cross-curricular CSI Enrichment Day this term, taking on the role of detectives to solve a mysterious school crime; ‘Who Stole Fudge?’ (Ms Bahbra’s beloved cat!) Working in investigation teams, pupils followed clues and analysed evidence using skills from Science, Maths, English and Drama. In Science, they carried out forensic tests, including chromatography and pH analysis to examine mystery substances and link evidence to suspects. Maths lessons challenged the pupils to apply measurement, data handling and logical reasoning to analyse footprints, timelines and alibis, helping them narrow down who could be responsible. In English and Drama, pupils collaborated to question suspects, refine their theories and present well-structured conclusions supported by evidence The day culminated in group presentations and a reflective debrief, allowing pupils to celebrate their problem-solving, teamwork and communication skills. The CSI Day was a lively and engaging way for Year 7 to see how learning across subjects connects in real-world contexts.
WW2 Memories for Lower School
Year 7 and 8 pupils had the privilege of hearing from Terry, a remarkable 90-year-old who shared his personal experiences of World War II. Terry was just 4 years old when the war began, attending Edenmore Boarding School in London He spoke vividly about life during the war, the terrifying sound of German planes overhead, hiding under the kitchen table, and the reality of being evacuated
One particularly powerful story described how a policeman threw himself on top of Terry while crossing a bridge, shielding him from a bomb blast and saving his life Terry also brought history to life by sharing his knowledge of key events such as the Battle of Britain and D-Day, alongside models of fighter planes that fascinated the pupils He later served in Berlin in 1955 and showed pupils his Sten gun, giving them a tangible connection to the past. In addition to his stories, Terry displayed his beautifully crafted war scene models, which the pupils greatly admired It was a truly unforgettable experience; our pupils were completely in awe. We are so grateful to Terry for sharing his time, memories, and remarkable life story with our Lower School
