der white turf 2012 im rückblick looking back at white turf 2012 fakten und zahlen Auf der rund 765’000 m2 grossen Fläche des St. Moritzersees werden in tagelanger Arbeit 60’000 m2 Geläuf und 70’000 m2 Eventbereich angelegt. Über 75 Zeltbauten werden erstellt, davon auf ca. 2’500 m2 das VIP-Zelt für die geladenen Gäste. Rund 1‘100 Prominente aus Wirtschaft, Politik und Gesellschaft werden pro Sonntag im VIP-Zelt kulinarisch verwöhnt. 40 bis 50 Tonnen Lebensmittel werden allein an den drei Renntagen verbraucht. Daneben werden beim Public Catering 8’000 Würste, 1’000 Portionen chinesische Spezialitäten, 750 Portionen Risotto, 950 Portionen Raclette und u. a. gut 2’000 gefüllte Schokoladenkugeln verkauft. Rund 100 Journalisten akkreditierten sich jedes Wochenende im Pressezelt auf dem zugefrorenen St. Moritzersee und wurden durch das Presse-Team ganztags betreut und verpflegt.

About 1,100 VIPs, celebrities from business, politics and high society are served culinary delights in the VIP tent on each race Sunday. No less than 40 to 50 tons of food are consumed on the three racing days. In addition, the public catering sold 8,000 sausages, 1,000 portions of Chinese specialities, 750 portions of risotto, 950 portions of raclette and well over 2,000 small, cream-filled chocolate cakes. Almost 100 journalists were accredited on each weekend in the press tent on the frozen lake of St. Moritz. They were attended to and catered for all day long by the press team.

Dank ihnen wurde der Erlös noch aufgerundet,so dass die stolze Spendensumme von CHF 10’000 für die Schweizer Stiftung Theodora zusammenkam.

The charity campaign was under the auspices of the two main sponsors Credit Suisse and BMW (Switzerland) AG, as well as the Cashmere House Lamm in St. Moritz and the White Turf Racing Association. Thanks to them the proceeds were rounded up to an impressive donation of CHF 10,000 for the Swiss “Foundation Theodora”.

The European championship on snow, the ‘Gübelin –Grand Prix of St. Moritz’, has the highest stakes of all Swiss racing sports, with the legendary prize money of CHF 131,131, while at the ‘BMW – Grand Trotting Prize Pontresina’ the total prize money distributed is CHF 30,000.

kunst auf dem see White Turf 2012 stand auch künstlerisch im Zeichen des Pferdes. Es war das erste Mal, dass eine breitere Öffentlichkeit eine der eindrucksvollen Pferdeskulpturen von Curdin Guler bewundern konnte. Der vielen als aktiver Teilnehmer des Skikjöring-Rennens bekannte Kunstschaffende aus dem Münstertal verwendet für seine Werke Holz, Bronze und Metall.

Ein weiterer Höhepunkt waren die Werke des im Engadin wohnhaften Designers und Künstlers Stoislav Zivkovski. Basierend auf der alten Handwerkskunst des Sgraffito erzählen seine eindrucksvollen Bilder von der Schönheit des Engadins, von Pferderennen und Siegerehrungen.

art on the lake White Turf 2012 was all about horses, also from an artistic point of view. For the first time a wider public had the chance to admire one of Curdin Guler’s impressive horse sculptures. Known as an active participant of the skikjöring race, the artist from the Val Müstair uses wood, bronze and metal for his works.

Another highlight were the works of the designer and artist Stoislav Zivkovski, who lives in the Engadin. Based on the ancient sgraffito technique, his impressive pictures capture the beauty of the Engadin and tell of horse races and award ceremonies.

white turf - kooperationen Die Internationalität der Pferdrennen von St. Moritz dokumentiert sich in der Zusammenarbeit mit drei ausländischen Rennsportpartnern. Berlin-Hoppegarten, Mauritius und Taranto lauten jene Stationen mit denen White Turf kooperiert. Basis dafür ist in erster Linie der

So war es am 15. September 2012 auf der deutschen Hauptstadt-Rennbahn in Berlin-Hoppegarten. Dort fand schon zum zweiten Mal ein Grand Prix White Turf St. Moritz statt. White Turf-CEO Silvio Martin Staub überreichte dem siegreichen Team um die Stute Indian Lovesong edle White Turf Cashmere-Pferdedecken. An seiner Seite stand neben Hoppegartens Eigner Gerhard Schöningh mit Dr. Daniela Stoffel die Gesandte der Schweizer Botschaft, worauf bei der Siegerehrung die Schweizer Nationalhymne ertönte. „Hier geht alles mit viel Herzlichkeit zu“, sagte Frau Dr. Stoffel beim Interview und freute sich über die deutsch-schweizerische Freundschaft in Sachen Pferderennsport. In der Botschaft ging im Vorfeld des Renntages die Pressekonferenz über die Bühne, an der mit Tim Guldimann auch der Schweizer Botschafter teilnahm.

Im Gegenzug findet am 17. Februar 2013 ein GP Rennbahn Berlin-Hoppegarten auf dem St. Moritzersee statt. Damit wird eine längst entstandene Freundschaft zwischen White Turf St. Moritz und der Rennbahn Berlin-Hoppegarten weiter zementiert aus der beide Seiten sportlich und touristisch Nutzen ziehen. Silvio Martin Staub bringt es auf den Punkt: „Es gibt hier nicht nur Besitzer, Trainer, Jockeys und Pferde, sondern es kommt mit der Freundschaft im Denken eine fünfte Komponente hinzu“ und spielt auf die gute Zusammenarbeit mit Gerhard Schöningh und seinem Team an. Beim Renntag in Berlin-Hoppegarten präsentierte sich die Region um St. Moritz mit einem Zelt von Engadin Tourismus. Ausserdem wurden einer breiteren Öffentlichkeit erstmals acht Gemälde des St. Moritzer Künstlers Dusan Sekela gezeigt, sowie 24 Satteldecken, die sich bereits bei White Turf im Einsatz befanden. Nun kehren die Kunstwerke wieder nach St. Moritz zurück.

Neu aus der Taufe wurde indes die Zusammenarbeit mit dem „Ippodromo Paolo VI“ im italienischen Taranto gehoben.

Bereits am Vortag des Renntages, wurde Cristiano Luminati von der italienischen Delegation feierlich in der „Regione“ empfangen. Er informierte an der Pressekonferenz über die Rennen in St. Moritz und überreichte am Renntag persönlich die Siegerpreise an die drei erstplatzierten Damen des Weltcups. „Für beide Rennveranstalter steht der Sport im Mittelpunkt und dank der Ressourcen der beiden Länder und des kulturellen Austauschs wollen sie sich gemeinsam weiterentwickeln und voneinander profitieren“, wurde im unterschriebenen Kooperationsabkommen festgehalten. Diese Kooperation stellt nicht nur eine Bereicherung für die White Turf Racing Association dar, sondern insbesondere auch für die Tourismusdestination Engadin.

Ein weiteres internationales Standbein existiert mit Mauritius und dessen ältestem Rennverein auf der Südhalbkugel. Die Palmen auf dem See bilden alljährlich das äussere Zeichen dieser Verbindung, die zudem durch ein White Turf-Rennen auf Mauritius gelebt wird, das zuletzt im Frühjahr 2012 stattfand. Die Engadiner Delegation würdigte vor Ort die Herzlichkeit des Empfangs und bestaunte die Professionalität der Rennen, die einen höheren Stellenwert als Fussball oder Formel 1 besitzen.

Erstmals könnte sich am ersten Rennsonntag bei White Turf ein Jockey aus Mauritius in den Sattel schwingen. Dort sind auch Stars wie Lanfranco Dettori und Olivier Peslier gern gesehene Gäste. Beide Weltklasse-Jockeys haben in der Vergangenheit auch schon Ritte auf dem St. Moritzersee absolviert.

Based first and foremost on sports, the collaboration also encompasses art and tourism.

This was also the case on September 15th 2012 in BerlinHoppegarten, the racecourse of Germany’s capital, where a Grand Prix White Turf St. Moritz took place for the second time already. White Turf CEO Silvio Martin Staub presented Indian Lovesong’s winning team with precious White Turf cashmere horse rugs. The award ceremony, during which the national anthem of the winner was played, was also graced by the presence of Hoppegarten owner Gerhard Schöningh and Dr. Daniela Stoffel, envoy of the Swiss embassy. “The atmosphere is very cordial“, Dr. Stoffel said in the interview and was delighted with the Swiss German horse racing friendship. Prior to the race day a press conference was held at the embassy, which was also attended by the Swiss Ambassador Tim Guldimann.

In return there will be a Grand Prix Rennbahn BerlinHoppegarten on the Lake St. Moritz on February 17th 2013.

With this the by now established friendship between White Turf St. Moritz and the racecourse Berlin-Hoppegarten - from which both sides mutually benefit with regards to sports and tourism - will be further consolidated. Silvio Martin Staub puts it in a nutshell: “This is not only about owners, trainers, jockeys and horses. The friendship in thought adds a fifth element to it“, alluding to the good collaboration with Gerhard Schöningh and his team. On the day of the race the region of St. Moritz was showcased in a tent at the racecourse BerlinHoppegarten. Besides, for the very first time a wider public had the chance to admire eight paintings by the St. Moritz artist Dusan Sekela, as well as 24 artfully painted horse rugs, which had already been in use at White Turf. Now the art pieces return to St. Moritz again.

By contrast, the cooperation with “Ippodromo Paolo VI“ in the Italian city of Taranto was newly launched on the occasion of the Ladies Amateur Driver’s World Cup in Taranto, which also took place on September 15th 2012. Guests from twelve nations, including the USA, New Zealand, Russia, France, Belgium and the Netherlands travelled to Taranto for the World Cup. The entire race day was under the auspices of White Turf. Cristiano Luminati, member of the White Turf board of directors, continued on site what had begun two years earlier as intensive talks between Silvio Martin Staub and Fredy Moder from Swiss Trot during a friendly meeting.

On the day before the race day, Cristiano Luminati was ceremoniously welcomed in the “Regione” by the Italian delegation. At the media conference he informed about the races in St. Moritz and on the race day he personally presented the three World Cup winning ladies with the prizes. The signed cooperation agreement stipulates: “Both race organizers focus on the sport and want to further develop together and benefit from each other by building on the resources of the two countries and the cultural exchange“. The cooperation is not only a gain for the White Turf Racing Association, but also very much for the Engadin as a tourist destination.

Another international pillar is Mauritius with the oldest turf club in the southern hemisphere. Every year, the palm trees on the lake are the visible sign of this connection, which also finds its expression in a White Turf race in Mauritius, the last of which has taken place in spring 2012. The Engadin delegation acknowledged the warm welcome they received there and then and marveled at the professionalism of the races that rate higher than football or Formula One. For the first time a jockey from Mauritius might get on a horse on the first White Turf race Sunday, where stars such as Lanfranco Dettori and Olivier Peslier are also very welcome guests. Both of these world-class jockeys have been racing across the Lake St. Moritz in the past.

colorsbridgecultures Petra Puschmann, geboren 1956 in Deutschland, lebt und arbeitet in Frankreich (Provence), in Dubai und in der Schweiz. Sie hat zahlreiche Skulpturen in Bronze und Mixed Media zum Zeitgeschehen erschaffen und arbeitet in einem Strömungsfeld der bildenden Kunst in dem nicht das Produkt, sondern die Handlung, die Bewegung, das Performative und die Inszenierung im Vordergrund stehen. Rezipienten, Betrachter und Zuschauer werden involviert und sind aktiv daran beteiligt in dem Kunst-Projekt „ColorsBridgeCultures“ eine wirklich sehr grosse Kunstinstallation länderübergreifend gemeinsam zu erschaffen. Die Besucher des White Turf sind eingeladen die Stufen für 60 Meter der wellenförmig konzipierten Brückenkonstruktion in einem kreativen Prozess zu erschaffen und es soll eine Menge Spass machen. www.pp-artlive.com

Petra Puschmann, born 1956 in Germany, currently divides her time living and working in France (Provence), Dubai and Switzerland.

She has created numerous sculptures in bronze and has also mixed media at current events. Petra works in a flow field of visual art where it is not the product but the movement, the per-formative and the orchestration that are in the foreground. Recipients, viewers and spectators alike, all actively participate together in the Art project “ColorsBridgeCultures“ to create across countries a massive art installation. Flash Dance nahm sofort das Heft in die Hand und führte in gutem Tempo, war am Ende gegen African Arts Attacke machtlos. Schützenjunker rückte auf der Gegenseite auf und absolvierte den Schlussbogen an dritter Stelle, verteidigte diese Position sicher. Ziking machte Ende der Gegenseite einige Ränge gut, lag in der letzten Kurve an fünfter Stelle, verbesserte sich in der Endphase um einen weiteren Rang. Winterwind war bei der ersten Zielpassage eine Runde vor Schluss Träger der roten Laterne, wurde dank einem guten Finish noch Fünfter. Tarkheena Prince endete ansprechend Pont des Arts galoppierte im Schlussbogen noch an vierter Stelle, liess in der Folge nach. Earl of Winds war nie in der Lage, in den Kampf um die vorderen Plätze einzugreifen. The Bells O Peover spielte keine Rolle.

Doch es muss alles passen und organisiert sein, ehe die drei Renntage im Februar tatsächlich über die Bühne gehen können.

Zunächst einmal ist „Mutter Natur“ gefordert. Ohne sie läuft nichts auf dem St. Moritzersee. Bitterkalt muss es im Dezember und Januar werden, damit das Wasser zu Eis gefriert und die feste Grundlage für die Durchführung der Pferderennen bildet. Erst danach beginnen die Aufbauten auf dem See. Die grandiose Zeltlandschaft entsteht. Bühnen für Kunst und Musik werden geschaffen. Tribünen für die Zuschauer kommen an ihren Platz und für die Pferde und ihre Reiter liefern

die Rails die richtige Hilfe zur Orientierung während der Rennen.

White Turf und alle Beteiligten profitieren von den Sponsoren. Rennsponsoren, Co-Sponsoren, Lokalsponsoren und Bartersponsoren halten dem Veranstalter der Pferderennen seit Jahren die Treue, doch müssen vor allem die Hauptsponsoren BMW und Credit Suisse an dieser Stelle genannt werden. Schon im Jahre 1977 begleitete Credit Suisse erstmals ein Pferderennen in St. Moritz als Sponsor. Seit 1991 ist auch die BMW (Schweiz) AG auf dem gefrorenen St. Moritzersee mit dabei.

Während Sponsorenverträge in vielen Sportarten in der Regel nur kurzfristig abgeschlossen werden, sollte sich an der langfristigen Zusammenarbeit zwischen White Turf sowie BMW und Credit Suisse

so schnell nichts ändern. Die Exklusivität von White Turf ist es, weshalb beide Firmen diese partnerschaftliche Verbindung auf dem zugefrorenen St. Moritzersee in 1800 Metern Höhe alljährlich zu einem Event für ihre Kunden gestalten.

Eleganz, Kraft, Geschwindigkeit und Ausstrahlung zählen zu Attributen, die nicht nur auf White Turf zutreffen, sondern auch für die Marke BMW. First of all Mother Nature is called upon.

Without her nothing goes on the Lake St. Moritz. It has to be bitterly cold in December and January, the water has to turn into ice and form the firm ground that enables to stage the races. Only then the construction work on the lake can start.

White Turf and everybody involved benefit from the sponsors. Race sponsors, co-sponsors, local sponsors and barter sponsors have been loyal to the horse race operator for many years. Nevertheless, it is our wish to especially mention the main sponsors BMW and Credit Suisse. The first Credit Suisse sponsorship for a horse race in St. Moritz goes back as far as 1977.

BMW (Schweiz) AG is present on the frozen Lake St. Moritz since 1991. While in many sports, sponsorship agreements are concluded only for a short period,

As for exclusivity, Credit Suisse scores even higher, as there is only one skikjöring race worldwide: at White Turf in

St. Moritz, there, where the first race with the daredevil men who are connected by reins to their horses took place in 1906.
