The World’s Most Glamorous Homes is, of course, an annual title we publish as a hard back book. We have been publishing the title for more than a decade, and it is only now that is has suddenly dawned on me that’s quite a claim - a collection of projects that make up some of the world’s most glamorous. That said it is quite an issue. However, it did lead me to think of the definition of glamour and how we identify what is truly glamorous. I think my opinion would be that glamour is timeless of course,
enduring and quite spectacular in its own right; however it is also broad, varied, diverse and everchanging. Glamour does not stand still as a relic or a moment in time, it strides forward, boldly evolving as it does so. This year we have selected projects from throughout the world, all as culturally rich as they are diverse, but all undoubtedly glamourous in their own right and unique way. I do hope you enjoy this year’s selection. Joanne

“The whimsical and sophisticated objects play against the light and the modern décor in the home.”
This property in Dallas, Texas USA is a 8,156 square foot Highland Park estate which needed refurbishing to turn the client’s dream home into the luxurious and light home she had envisioned. The property, constructed with quality striking details inside and out, was built by builder Steven Hild with architecture by David Stocker of SHM Architects but needed Sherry Hayslip Interiors to soften the home whilst keeping the spirit of the house alive. Sherry Hayslip were tasked with a brief to make the client’s home, that she loved, feel more personal to her as she felt there was a need for her dream home to have more of a luxury and feminine design to it. The sophisticated and tenured client wanted to transform her property from a blend of dark finishes and masculine materials to a light and elegant living space, her exact words to the designers were “make it drop dead fabulous”. The Highland Park Estate has seen Sherry Hayslip Interiors shortlisted in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2020. Sherry Hayslip Interiors have followed and participated in the awards over the years and have expressed that they “truly respect the awards”. Located in an exclusive community the materials used and the scale and elegance of the property affords its contemporary exterior to harmonizes perfectly with the more traditional homes on the estate which has evolved into a hive of sophisticated architecture. The exterior is light and graceful and the use of large windows throughout the property ensure that the outside can be enjoyed from inside the property.
26 The World’s Most Glamorous Homes
The natural colour palette is striking on first entering the property with warm white on the walls and natural stone in the entrance which continues throughout the home. The stairs curving around a large window and smaller windows moving up the stairs, allow natural light to enter the home across both floors seamlessly with the grand piano placed in the foyer creating a serene first impression of the property. All lighting in the property has been updated by the designers which continue the brief of softening the décor and creating a light and feminine design. Sherry Hayslip Interiors continued with the brief of brightening this property through to the kitchen where they have added marble walls but contrasted this against the ceiling height wooden cabinetry. With large windows either end of this room, the use of natural light along with spotlights compensates for the darker wood and stainless steel appliances whilst maintaining a bright and inviting room. The designers have installed new countertops throughout the space including on the magnificent island which is perfectly placed in this sizeable room. The lower level of the property has been completely transformed by Sherry Hayslip Interiors. They have utilised the existing wine room and added a utility room complete with dog washing station, beautiful powder room, exercise room, kitchenette and open media room with its own elegant bar. The designers have added a “Buddha Bar” which they feel showcases the client’s personality with the figure of Buddha centered against
an old painting. The whimsical and sophisticated objects play against the light and the modern décor in the rest of the home. The basement of the property has been transformed to become a practical space for the client without losing any of the design and luxuriousness used throughout the property. The designers have described the upstairs of the property has a “fashion enthusiasts dream” as the bedroom next to the master bedroom has been transformed into a boutique-style wardrobe. This includes a dressing area, custom mirrors and glass display cabinets, built-ins for the client’s shoe and handbag collection. The mirrors enhance this narrow space and create the illusion of a much larger room. When asked whether the designers have a favourite room in the property, they describe how the master bedroom is a refuge with its serenity and sparkle and they hold the room with the upmost regard. The master bathroom features a spa-like his and hers space which has been expertly designed with Calacatta gold marble, soaking tub and steam shower for a sumptuous area to unwind. Sherry Hayslip Interiors found the brief of softening the existing outstanding architectural structure while keeping the integrity of the home without diluting it’s features to be a challenge but this has been overcome beautifully. The use of light colours and materials, large windows which allow the natural light in and glamourous accessories have created a perfectly elegant, extravagant yet subtle home for this sophisticated client.

“Throughout the design process there was always a preference for SHH to use interesting artisans sourced from across the globe to supply bespoke items”. SHH has completed one of its most ambitious residential projects to date, a high-spec, luxury new-build villa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The 30,000 square foot villa has been designed in a Mediterranean style with Romanesque architectural influences throughout. SHH provided a full architecture and interior design service on the project from concept through to completion and dressing. The clients brief outlined a desire to build a house that was able to accommodate visits by statesmen and stateswomen, royalty and VIP’s from all over the world, whilst also being a family home. The house was to be imposing without being overly pretentious and was to incorporate details and references of European designs, but in a modern and fresh manner. The clients, a young, dynamic and cosmopolitan family who are highly educated and travel widely, had a keen eye for the developing middle eastern art scene. The family loved colour and the use of interesting and rare materials which could be used in unique ways. Throughout the design process there was always a preference for SHH to use interesting artisans sourced from across the globe to supply bespoke items. The clients wanted SHH to provide a turnkey design solution from architecture through to interiors and FF&E. The family were very keen to ensure that the project was designed and built in a manner that would significantly raise the standards currently available in Dubai. Throughout the design process, SHH built a strong and lasting relationship with the clients who were actively involved in all aspects of the design process, allowing a thorough and comprehensive brief to be developed. Describing the process of achieving the final design, Rupert Martineau, Associate & Project Head of Residential Interiors at SHH, said “SHH built a programme that tracked every stage and ensured suitable time was provided for the design team to pay close attention to detail in all aspects of the project, including coordination of the domestic consultants and contractors... The site team implemented a highly complicated and fully coordinated design in an efficient and safe environment. SHH made numerous visits to check progress and quality.”
42 The World’s Most Glamorous Homes
Speaking about how the Private Villa Dubai project integrates into its wider environment, Rupert Martineau commented “Dubai’s private residential sector is still developing. There are some interesting new buildings in a modern vernacular. However, this property breaks new ground in terms of size and use of the entire plot, including a basement level which is rare in this city.” Upon entering the property, one is immersed in understated luxury. The villa’s entrance hall is decorated with clean white veined marbles, beautifully offset by the darker marble tones of the hallway’s tables and mocha coloured walls. Each element of the entrance is highlighted by the natural light which is allowed to stream in through the intricately cut out main door. Features such as this are echoed throughout the villa providing the large scale property with a sense of cohesion from room to room. This was essential if the design was to work well, as despite the size of the property, SHH have created a fluidity when arranging the rooms. Rupert Martineau described the arrangement, saying “There is a subtle narrative that ties the spaces together and draws on influences from the client’s travels and artwork.” Due to the clients hosting various important guests from all over the globe, SHH have ensured that there are both formal and informal spaces for meeting and entertaining. The Day Room is a wonderful and intimate area of the villa for less formal guests and combines soft silken walls and stunning fabrics with bespoke furniture designed by SHH. In addition, SHH wanted to ensure that the clients had an area where they could relax and revitalise themselves, and thus created a spa-like environment where the clients could escape. The wellness area features two treatment beds, an adjoining gym area with treadmills, and a luxurious jacuzzi area with surrounding candles and relaxing chairs opposite. The use of exposed stonework separates this room from the rest and allows one to feel as if they have entered a tranquil spa environment whilst being in their own home. Private Villa Dubai has seen SHH shortlisted for four awards, Living Space
- Global, Interior Design Scheme - Global, Cityspace (Apartment/Penthouse) Global and Luxury Residence - Global in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2020. Speaking about the awards, Rupert Martineau explained “ [The awards] provide a great platform for recognition to practices who wish to showcase their work to a talented global audience by bringing together high standards of work from across the world. The International Design & Architecture Awards set the standard in our industry, showcasing excellence, innovation and new approaches. Competing at an international level is so highly valuable because we can learn from other trends in other countries and test our skills and expertise on a global level.” SHH have created a truly bespoke property, tailored specifically to the client’s exact needs and tastes. This was an ambitious project for SHH as it required the team to carry out a full interior and architecture service from concept to finish. Despite the property’s size, it was essential that it felt homely and inviting for the clients as well as the guests they would be hosting. Speaking about how the project contributes to the design and architecture sector, Rupert commented “The project has real personality, distinctive flourishes, nods to different cultures and influences. The villa’s design and architecture expresses Romanesque architecture influences from the past in a very contemporary home. The interiors and finishes are sophisticated and elegant, keeping to the highest of standards.” The outcome of the project is a fabulous, enduring property that the clients love. Speaking about their new home, the clients said “We are immensely proud of this project. SHH took the lead on all aspects of the design, ensuring that the end result was a stunning contemporary home, delivered with dedication and a painstaking attention to detail.” “Throughout the design process there was always a preference for SHH to use interesting artisans sourced from across the globe to supply bespoke items”.

“The pink colours in the cherry blossom along with the tropical shades in the dining chairs create a Thai glamour in this eccentric Mayfair home”
This almost 50,000 square foot astonishing property in the heart of Mayfair, London is an opulent home which has been deemed Britain’s Most Expensive Home and was commissioned for a Channel 4 documentary to showcase the design and build of this luxurious space. Working with architects Bickerdike Allen Partners, construction group Size Group London Ltd and developer Caudwell Collection, Arista Design collaborated to create this extravagant property on the narrow streets of Mayfair. The brief given to Arista Design was to create a “home like no other” with design aspects in the home that were fun, adventurous and quirky. The client also needed the space to be able to accommodate charity balls for over 100 guests. This large home is the combination of two mansions, one of which is the Ancastor House at the front, and a townhouse at the rear joined together by a courtyard. On first viewing, the client was taken aback by the phenomenal features of the property but did not like the previous owner’s ostentatious décor. The two properties joined together make this one home only slightly smaller than Westminster Cathedral and with Arista Design’s expertise the space has been restored to the original period grandeur of the mansions. The entrance to the property has been transformed from a dark and gloomy hallway to a vivid and welcoming space with light colours including a graceful marble floor. The striking brightness of this entrance is enhanced by the five chandeliers which stretch over four floors. There is an undeniable Mayfair glamour to this property from the initial entrance which continues through the home. With eight different zones, each area has a distinctly different feel as if to
54 The World’s Most Glamorous Homes
enter a completely different environment between each space. The basement, which connects the two original mansions, has been restored through adding a spa, a gym, a 40-foot swimming pool, a 1,400 square foot ballroom, a nightclub and a cinema. The swimming pool features a moving lava wall which was an idea of the clients. Arista have achieved the clients vision by placing LED panels behind the custom built lava-effect wall creating the illusion of moving lava. Once the panels had been fitted, the designers found that three panels of the LED lava had malfunctioned which meant the wall had to be taken down after fitting. This was a tense time for the designers as the wall panels were temperamental and easily broken. The designer’s overcame this complication without any added issues and created this striking and unusual wall display. The cinema in the basement has been decorated with deep theatre red colours and seventeen seats creating the illusion of an old theatre rather than a home cinema. The entertaining can continue through to the nightclub with a unique mirrored dance floor and ball room which is the largest private ballroom in London after Buckingham Palace. The basement includes a games room with a view of two out of eight cars from the car stacker that has been installed. Arista Design sourced the automated car stacker from Turkey, that is able to deposit up to eight cars underground at the click of a button. This highly sophisticated system has been installed for the client to be able to showcase their classic car collection whilst entertaining guests. The former conservatory on the third floor of the property has been renovated into a dining room with a high concept Thaistyle design. The extravagance continues
into the dining room with handmade wooden panels covering the walls creating an authentic oriental atmosphere. An indoor river has been incorporated into the flooring in this room with live tropical Japanese cichlids fish. Arista Design have explained that the river running through this room is their favourite aspect of the property due to the exotic aquatic animals featured. The centerpiece of the room is a 15-foot preserved tree trunk adorned with silk cherry blossom stretching the length of the room. The pink colours in the cherry blossom along with the tropical shades in the dining chairs create a Thai glamour in this eccentric Mayfair home. The glamour and extravagance continues into the master bedroom suite which has been finished with an enormous crystal light, gold leaf trim and emperor size bed. The designers have added his and hers personalised dressing rooms which make the home special for the client as well as aesthetically pleasing. The ensuite has been decorated with a spectacular feature wall and mother of pearl inlay. Many specialists and artisans were needed for such unique pieces throughout the property, including the marquetry using specialist materials like mother of pearl with shagreen inlay and specialist upholsters for handwoven embroidery were essential for a project to this scale. With over 20,000 gold leaves used throughout this property, the glamour and extravagance is extraordinary in every corner of the home. The clients have stated they are “delighted” with the end result describing the property as “superb” and commenting that the interior design is “exquisite”. This magnificent gem in the heart of Mayfair is breathtaking, elegant and has been completed exceptionally by Arista Design.

“The use of warm neutrals, French green and shades of blush ensure that the colour palette is timeless and provides a dignified finish which flows throughout the interior of the property.” MURRON Interior Design were approached to create a design scheme for a new-build, four-bedroom hideaway that combined family space, a passion for cooking and a love for the sea all under one roof. The brief was for a building plot in the Mallorcan countryside, if possible, in absolute solitude, to build a new fourbedroom hideaway which would combine functional spaces for the family, whilst incorporating their interests. It was essential that the client would have plenty of outdoor space as well as flexible accommodation space for their teenage children and their friends. In addition, the client desired an outdoor pool and casita, as well as an internal fireplace. The building plot of the soon to be family residence was surrounded by old trees, creating the complete privacy the client desired. In addition to the clients initial brief, the client wanted to retain all natural elements which required MURRON Interior Design to plan and build the house within the frame which was already provided by nature. MURRON Interior Design managed to preserve all of the property’s surrounding trees and planted old olive trees in between. There is a smooth transition between the indoors and the outdoors with the use of natural sandstone and earthy outdoor colours. It was additionally important for the clients to have a breathable wallcovering within the property which could adapt to the changing southern climate. Fresh, light and modern were the key words used when designing this property. It was to be a hideaway where the family could relax and be surrounded by nature, whilst enjoying complete privacy. However, MURRON Interior Design was faced with the challenge of Mallorcan building regulations as they are very strict in the Mallorcan countryside. The team found it difficult to follow these regulations as well as stretch them to achieve the final project. Speaking about the project’s design, Maren Lundehn, Director of MURRON Interior Design said “To create a cool comfortable space, I used white concrete floors, white lime plaster walls and large windows to contrast the warm Mediterranean climate. [We used] turquoise, green and 64 The World’s Most Glamorous Homes
azure blue furnishings [to] bring the seaside in.” Upon entering this property, one is introduced to the highlight of Amagatall’s design, the bespoke stainless steel kitchen. MURRON Interior Design cites the kitchen as the favourite aspect of the home, with its rustic sandstone feature wall, which required a specialist to be brought in, and the opulent, tiered lighting piece situated above the dining table. The kitchen is simple in its design, it perfectly blends rustic features with high-end accessories, creating a homely environment where the family can enjoy dinner together or with guests. Furthermore, like Amagatell’s other rooms, the kitchen features a set of white, glass panelled doors which provides the family with immediate access to the outdoors, reinforcing the property’s connection with its environment. Speaking about how the property integrates into the wider environment, Maren Lundehn commented “Respecting the traditional building regulations led to a balanced outdoor appearance. Because the house is one storey, it perfectly fits into the landscape without being prominent. By placing it in between the trees and by using natural sandstone and earthy outdoor colours you feel the respect for the local environment. The contrast between the warm outdoors and cool indoors gives you a definite feel of a holiday home where you can hide.” The property’s cool interiors reflect a holiday home perfectly, providing a relaxed and calming atmosphere throughout. Amagatall’s living space incorporates this feel perfectly, decorated in stark whites contrasted with deep aquamarines and bright royal blues. The cool colours are beautifully juxtaposed by the room’s built-in fireplace which adds a warmth to the room. A further favourite aspect for MURRON Interior Design was the outdoor areas, including a fully furnished cotton tent for the teenagers to escape to. The MURRON Interior Design team incorporated an ‘L-shaped’ sofa and a daybed on the garden’s patio area, which provides the family and their children with a setting that is perfect for both socialising and relaxing under the Meditterranean sun. In
addition, there is an outdoor dining area which can be accessed from multiple rooms within the property. The dining area is shaded and provides the family with the option to enjoy their meals outside or a place for the teenagers to eat separately with their friends. Speaking about why the design works so well, Maren Lundehn describes “Simplicity in this home was key. The combination of white concrete floors and white lime plaster as well as the mostly white furniture makes the whole interior feel comfortable and airy. The fireplace and sandstone [act] as a contrast to give it soul and warmth. The lime plaster feels natural and allows the whole house and its inhabitants to breathe and calm down. The very thoughtfully designed outdoor areas give the client additional and flexible accommodation and living space.” Amagatall has seen MURRON Interior Design shortlisted in two categories, Living Space - Europe and Interior Design Scheme - Europe, in The International Design & Architecture Awards 2020. Speaking about the importance of the awards, Lundehn explained “Inspiration is everything in the design world. We need to open our eyes and look beyond the horizon. With this award, young and unknown designers get a chance to show their work to a wider audience. It helps them to be confident and trust their vision.” Amagatell allows its residents to relax in privacy, be that in its luxurious and simple indoor areas, or its cleverly placed outdoor areas. The design team considered the family as a whole, incorporating spaces for the families teenage children to enjoy with their friends, installing a stainless steel kitchen for the family to pursue their passion for cooking and adding touches to reference the client’s love of the sea. Amagatall amalgamated with the company’s ethos of “It’s not only about beautiful and functional spaces, it’s about the spirit and feelings this design awakens. [Maren Lundehn] tries to create spaces where clients are inspired to dream, where they can feel content. Amagatall is a private residence that has it all and will be enjoyed by the family for years to come.

This expansive 9,000 square foot new build was a blank canvas for D’Amore Interiors, set upon forty acres, the brief was to design a “Modern Glam Farmhouse”. The clients desired a private sanctuary for themselves that would provide all the spaces their lives required, from a cook’s kitchen, his and hers private home offices, and a basement level for their teenage son to inhabit. The greatest ongoing challenge faced by D’Amore Interiors in this project was maintaining proper scale. Many of the rooms were much larger, meaning that normal scale furnishings, fixtures and finishes would seem out of place. In addition, there were some layout flaws created during the architectural phase that posed design dilemmas that D’Amore had to resolve strictly with interior finishes and furnishing solutions. Some were needed adjustments to provide more functionality, while other areas were simply becoming redundant due to the large amount of square footage at hand. The upper level of this property, which solely housed his and her home offices with a powder bath in between, posed another layout problem. It required her to walk through his office in order to get to her space. D’Amore Interiors set upon overcoming this challenge by adding an additional interior wall that would create a hallway space to both home offices that kept each one private from one another. Furthermore, the new narrow and tall hallway was transformed into a library, designed with in-built shelving that would follow the vaulted roof line all the way up to 18’ and house nearly a thousand books. A further layout dilemma that the team encountered was in the property’s master bedroom, where there were two doorways on the bed wall to access the master bathroom. The space left in between did not leave enough room for a bed with nightstands, so instead D’Amore Interiors floated the bed in the room and hung a sheer stationary fabric panel from one of the trusses behind the bed, creating a hallway effect between the bedroom and bathroom.
74 The World’s Most Glamorous Homes
D’Amore associates incorporated further layout changes in the property’s kitchen, scaling the appliances and cabinets up in order to look balanced, with a 10’ tall steel range hood was custom made to add weight and depth over the 60’ range. Gina D’Amore Bauerle, Partner and Lead Interior Designer of D’Amore Interiors, personally designed the 36’ tall refrigerator handle backplates out of brass to help balance the scale of the side-by-side Sub Zero columns. The dining end of the kitchen had originally been designed to have one large dining table, but since that felt too redundant with the formal dining room space right around the corner, D’Amore Interiors altered the layout to accommodate for built-in window seats with a more intimate dinette area in one corner, as well as a cafe inspired lounge in the other. Moving through to the client’s son’s room which was to be in the basement, the style was to be more industrial. The basement features a secondary kitchen that also functions as a bar for entertaining, a gaming area that includes many different conversation areas for smaller groups to socialise in, along with its own powder bathroom. In addition, there is also a screening area with theater-like seating. The client’s son is an artist, so he requested chalkboard walls in his bedroom to provide him with a large canvas to showcase his talent. Finally, D’Amore ensured that the son’s bathroom would be accessible from the large bunk room, which was designed to house his friends for overnight gatherings. Speaking about her favourite aspects of the property, Gina D’Amore Bauerle commented “I have too many favourites with this one! The client’s were so trusting and encouraged me to run with the design. As a result, I am so proud of the kitchen, library and her home office, among many other things. Nothing was ordinary or safe. As a designer, I believe a home should reflect the people who live in it.” The home sits on a mountainside with nature in view in nearly every space, so
each aspect of the design was carefully considered to respect the architectural presence, landscape and the family that was building their forever home. Due to the scale of the home, most of the finishes and features had to be equally substantial in size in order to maintain a natural balance. Each room was designed to have its own personality and a specific purpose, designed with the intention of the people who would actually use them. Speaking about the colour palette used within the property and its connection to its surroundings, Gina D’Amore Bauerle explained “We created a clean black and white kitchen so that the views of nature out of the windows became the art. The blue accents in the master bedroom played off of the beautiful blue water of the swimming pool just outside of their windows. In contrast, her home office features her favourite colour fuschia, so there was no confusion that you were entering her personal space.” In addition, the team ensured that the design flowed and transitioned as one continues through the property. What the Farmhouse has seen D’Amour Interiors shortlisted in six categories in The International Design & Architecture Awards. Speaking about the awards, Gina D’Amore Bauerle said “As a first time entrant...I am excited to have the opportunity to share my take on design with the world! It’s easy to become small minded and comfortable with what we’re used to. “The designers and the client working so closely together has led to this property having a comfortable and well-appointed feel without losing the client’s personality.”
This 4,227 square foot property in Alberta, Canada was completely renovated by Avid Interior Design from the foyer areas to the ensuite bathrooms where no space was left untouched. This former show home, previously renovated by a different designer in 2017, was not to the clients’ taste with a dark and uninviting design scheme. Avid Interior Design worked with the client directly and Pinnacle Renovations to ensure the client was one hundred percent satisfied with the outcome. The brief given to the designers was to create a sleek, modern home that felt harmonious and inviting that was also liveable and luxurious. The has been achieved seamlessly by deliberately carrying the colour scheme from room to room and showcasing consistent design details throughout the property. The designers have showcased their expertise with this project and were shortlisted in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2019. Anna-Maria Wurz, Designer at Avid Interior Design explained the importance of the Awards as she stated “they provide a wonderful opportunity to make a difference – inspiring us all to want to be better, to do better and to elevate our creative standards. These awards are vital as they are recognition for the amount of time, dedication and passion that has been invested into a project”. This home situated on the western edge of Calgary, Canada’s major urban centre that sits between the foothills and the breath-taking Rocky Mountains has been furnished outdoors with beautiful fittings in the front and rear with the same colour scheme as the interior which complements the exterior of the home perfectly. This brings together the picturesque surroundings and the serene design throughout this property. Continuity allows the design to flow throughout the home and helps to integrate the design into the wider environment.

All existing elements of the kitchen, including the outdated metallic splashback, army green countertops and brown stained cabinetry were removed or modified by Avid Interior Design and restored with colours in line with the colour palette used throughout the home. A 14-foot long island features a butterflied countertop in white Carrara marble quartz with perfectly coordinating Carrara marble splashback which continues the soft white colour scheme. The designers vision of a light, bright and peaceful space has been achieved with custom made cabinetry and millwork which created a kitchen that an estate home ought to own. The designers also added charcoal grey and subtle blue colours in this space to balance against the elegant white backdrop. The colour scheme continues through the home where Avid Interior Design have created a master bedroom that is soft, inviting and tranquil. Entering into the room through a vestibule showcasing a custom designed blue velvet sofa placed against a back lit wall with arched white wood panels, the colour palette carries through into the bedroom and walk-in wardrobe with the use of blue velvet accessories and furniture. This works perfectly against the light grey silk wallpaper which had been chosen to create an underlying dimension of comfort and indulgence. The master bedroom’s ensuite was previously a dark and heavy space with a black floor and wall tiles with charcoal grey countertops and brown stained cabinetry. The designers set to restore this room with soft white, blue and grey colours to accomplish the design goal. The shower has a floating concrete quartz bench with a single slab white marble ceramic tile which stands as a soft, yet stunning, focal point. Various textures were used to create a peaceful and spalike feel in this bathroom which appeals to both masculine and feminine with clean lines and charm.
When asked whether Anna-Maria Wurz had a favourite room in this property she struggled to choose only one. She went on to say “ there are so many areas and features that are special to me. Narrowing it down though, I would have to say the Master Bedroom and Ensuite, as we spent a lot of time custom designing many elements in those particular spaces to make them beautiful”. Bespoke millwork details, custom furniture, commissioned artwork and decor were all thoughtfully selected through each room to create a unified and balanced sense of sophistication. Anna-Maria Wurz stated the client loved the colour blue but was very particular over the specific hue of blue used. AnnaMaria goes on to explain “the client knows what she likes and doesn’t like, so every element was carefully considered to satisfy our clients refined taste. For instance, the agate stone countertop selection for the floating vanity in the powder room was a rare stone slab to source, but the client loved it and had to have it! We used this slab as the starting point for the powder room makeover, custom designed the vanity and found other special pieces to pair perfectly with the countertop selection.” The designers and the client working so closely together has led to this property having a comfortable and well-appointed feel without losing the client’s personality. Anna-Maria Wurz has since felt that their wonderful working relationship developed into a friendship during this project. Avid Interior Design have created a cohesive and seamless flow throughout the home through the use of a consistent colour scheme, sleek and stylish fixtures, custom cabinetry, intricate details, and fine finishes. Each element has been carefully considered to create a unique design throughout the home with details showcasing commissioned artwork, natural linen bedding and drapery. The clients’ brief has been met and has given them a home where they love to spend their time.

Harrods Interior Design were tasked with a brief to reimagine a homely Grade-II listed apartment in Mayfair. Originally designed in a classic, traditional style, the Harrods Interior Design team were instructed to transform the space into a decadent holiday flat, reminiscent of the client’s favourite luxury five-star hotels. The client desired a space which would be suitable for entertaining with immaculate luxury finishes, whilst retaining the personality and function of a home. In order to meet the client’s brief, an extensive redesign of the property’s floor plan was required to accommodate the client’s wish for each of the home’s four bedrooms to imitate that of a hotel room, complete with matching ensuites and not requiring a reduction in the amount of rooms. The redesign of the partition walls also included the heightening of the ceilings and the creation of a grand hallway. The designers approached the brief by referencing an era known for its visual drama, raucous rendezvous and opulence - the Roaring Twenties Art Deco period. The Twenties is an era known for its luxury, designers of the time used exotic materials of marbles and woods, highgloss lacquer to imitate ‘japanning’, geometric patterns, heights to increase visual drama, mirrors, metallic finishes and shapely curved furniture lines. The Twenties championed various silhouettes and derived influences from folklore to Arabic, bizarre blends of tribal African and modernist influences, lacquered orientalism, whimsy, theatricality, and ultra modernism. The design team considered all of these elements and created an Art Deco home, but not through a nostalgic lens. Harrods Interior Design team recreated the essence and opulence of this time period in a way that retains currency for the modern day. Describing the challenges the team faced throughout the project, Yulia Isaeva, Senior Designer at Harrods Interior Design explained “The greatest challenge was to brighten up the apartment with natural light. We have raised the ceilings as much as we could and kept the finishes light. We tried to involve a lot of reflective surfaces to bounce the light off of them, these included high gloss lacquer on joinery and many large inset mirrors and
92 The World’s Most Glamorous Homes
glass partitions. We had many constraints related to the listed building regulations which affected the floorplan a lot hence we could not open up the space as much as we wanted to.” Speaking about how the property integrates into the wider environment, Yulia Isaeva commented “The property’s contemporary feel and light-filled space sits in surprising contrast to the austere red brick exterior commonly seen in the Mayfair area, but its decadence is not out of place amongst the affluent suburb’s intricate facades, sculpted flourishes and elite residents.” Considering the property’s surroundings, the designers approached this now, four bedroom, four bathroom apartment as they would a stately home. The Harrods Interior Design team used noble materials liberally throughout, beginning with fitting a grand entrance. Aged mirrors were fitted on either side to not only create the illusion of space, but to counteract the bright and light spaces, adding depth. In addition, Yulia Isaeva stated a key aim of the project which was “to follow the rule that form must follow function. Giving up the superfluous ornamentation of the 20th century brought more air to the property and left space for practicality to welcome a large modern family.” Throughout the South Street, Mayfair project, marble finishes have been liberally used, but none more liberally than the property’s dramatic black and white veined marble feature-wall situated in the home’s living room, complete with an inbuilt fireplace, brushed brass framing and antique mirrors either side to accentuate the grandeur of the space. Yulia Isaeva cites this as “undoubtedly the property’s standout feature and it is complimented by its surrounding colour palette, the monochromatic with elements of rich burgundy, powder blues and brass finishes.” In addition, the Harrods Interior Design team incorporated a different type of marble in every ensuite in the property, all of which were hand-selected from a quarry in Italy. The property’s teal bedroom is a standout, emerald ceramic bedside pendants are paired with a contemporary, blue, smoked chandelier with brushed brass lines, both lighting fixtures offset the velvet emerald headboard and frame of the bed.
The softness of the velvet headboard is juxtaposed against the room’s harder finishes, such as the stone but also the textured wood veneer wallpaper laid in a chevron pattern. Adjoining the room is its matching ensuite with a striking veined verde fantasy marble and white marble flooring bordered by a metal inset. Speaking about her favourite room within the property, Yulia Isaeva commented “It is the maroon bedroom with the transformable beds. It has a special warmth to it, perhaps because we had to jump over a couple of bumps prior to its realisation. There were lead time issues with ironmongery, the chandelier had to be replaced, the headboard had to be re-made twice and like this with almost every aspect of the interior. But when it all came together, when the handles matched the upholstery, and the curtains folded the right direction, it all brought a great feeling of satisfaction.” The maroon bedroom features brass wall lights, bespoke calacatta marble bedside tables complete with purple veining and bespoke light grey joinery with maroon leather handles. Harrods Interior Design team ensured that each bedroom makes use of the Art Deco geometric patterning whilst retaining its own design identity through colours and materials. Speaking about why the design works so well, Yulia Isaeva affirmed “It borrows from the past whilst encompassing the future, and most importantly meets the client’s aspirations for a Gatsby-esque family home. Bespoke pieces are used throughout the space as each area demands its own set of functions, style and emphasis. The use of bespoke pieces allowed the designers to design with a focus on purity of form and refinement.” Harrods Interior Design have completely transformed a once classical GradeII apartment, and left a luxury 1920’s design, which exudes visual drama and opulence in its place. The design team have ensured that the apartment was spacious and ideal for entertaining whilst incorporating impeccable luxury finishes, reminiscent of the client’s favourite luxury five-star hotels. South Street maintains the opulence of the roaring 20’s whilst remaining timeless and integrating seamlessly into modern day.

“DR Limited Poland suggested that the atmosphere in the interior should be subdued which resulted in the selection of high-quality materials incorporated into the design. The initial visualisation of the interior was immediately welcomed, and each element had its own unique design, while the designer wanted all elements to be noncommercial.”
The inspiration behind the concept of Heron Residence located on top of a high river bank in Warsaw, Poland was to create an elegant and stylish interior with refined details. The client wanted to create a space that would refer to the new classic interior style, and which reflected the client and their family’s personal taste and character. The design brief required DR Limited Poland to arrange a polished, functional interior with an individual quality; as well as a unique design that paid close attention to detail, has interaction and composition of different materials, and is an atmospheric interior. The clients are family members who like to spend time at home and love flowers and greenery, they also needed this property to be designed to receive guests and feast frequently. With the clients’ brief in mind, DR Limited Poland suggested that the atmosphere in the interior should be subdued which resulted in the selection of high-quality materials incorporated into the design. The initial visualisation of the interior was immediately welcomed, and each element had its own unique design, while the designer wanted all elements to be noncommercial. Each material and element throughout the property is bespoke and were custom-made helping to create the effect of singularity and personal style. Dominika Rostocka, President of DR Limited always creates her own pieces for all unique projects that she creates, highlighting that the production and quality was high for Heron Residence, which is evident in the final stage of the project. All interior elements have been designed in a spirit of unified vision; doors, furniture, lamps and stucco were made by hand. The design of the interior was done in a manner which ultimately reflects DR Limited Poland’s past work but also refers to current global trends in

metalworking and upholstered furniture. For the unique, elegant and stylish execution of Heron Residence, DR Limited have been shortlisted for Luxury Residence - Europe in the International Design & Architecture Awards 2020. A true achievement and testament to their hard work. Dominika Rostocka commented on the importance of the Awards commenting “they are a chance to show my projects to new recipients and to appreciate the work I put into realisation.” This property has a light base colour palette which continues throughout the home and has been enhanced by the use of gold and black gloss accessories. The main living space has light walls with shades of mink furniture and feature wall. Working harmoniously with the natural colours, DR Limited Poland have used black gloss features such as side and coffee tables and bases to the seating. The colours used, along with the glamourous lighting and sophisticated accessories, create an elegant living space suitable for a family and guests. Dominika Rostocka explained that her favourite aspect of the project is the elegance throughout. On discussing this she explained “elegance means a design which appeals to me every time of day and night. Elegance should not be affected by passage of time and should effectively withstand the pressure of ever changing trends”. The bathroom showcases black gloss cabinetry in contrast to the white marble used for the flooring and countertops with gold taps, side lights and door handles working in perfect harmony with one another to create a very classy space. A feature wall stands tall in the walk-in shower which has tones of blacks and golds, with a black gloss border. The light
catches the pearlescent elements of the wall which make this the focal point of the room. The lighting throughout the home is a stand out feature as it has been restored with elegance and a subtle glamour. With the use of chandeliers and low hanging crystal lights, the opulence carried through the property is undeniable. DR Limited Poland have used natural light to the property’s advantage with large windows that create a peaceful and pure ambience in all rooms. Their expert attention to detail has led to this property making full use of the outdoors as the client had informed the designer of how they love flowers and greenery. With the use of indoor plants and natural elements, such as a dragonfly or lily flowers, the home has been made to feel fresh and uplifting without losing any of its allure with the colour tonality reflecting the colours of marshlands and the river one may admire from the windows. The property has been rejuvenated with high quality, personalised designs, and sophistication whilst also being a space a family enjoy spending their time. DR Limited seek to provide exceptional client service aiming to exceed, not merely meet, sky-high expectations and they have done so with grace at the Heron Residence. They believe the key to success in this sector is understanding the needs and expectations of the customer and supporting them at every stage of the project. As a boutique-style firm, this has been a crucial element in determining DR Limited’s success in creating this stylish and elegant family home that fits remarkably well with the client’s brief.

“The use of warm neutrals, French green and shades of blush ensure that the colour palette is timeless and provides a dignified finish which flows throughout the interior of the property.”
Overlooking a lush valley in Rogers, Arkansas, this chateau home situated in 300 acres is a dream home inspired by extensive travels of Paris and the countryside of France. Loving the Loire Valley, the clients purchased the site and began planning their French-inspired compound enlisting the expertise of local, award winning designers, Goddard Design Group. The brief given by the client was for Goddard Design Group to create a residence that would withstand the test of time and include high quality design and craftsmanship. The owner of the property has four children and many grandchildren and so the home was to be elegant but comfortable and liveable for family get-togethers as well as having the ability to manage large gatherings and social events. The French-inspired compound was a dream home for the client and would include architectural elements and fixtures which had been collected over the years and given as gifts on wedding anniversaries and other memorable occasions. The clients had entrusted Goddard Design Group to design the space and fulfil their vision. Large custom-made iron gates lead to a quarter of a mile long driveway made of hand-cut granite cobblestone, the perfect entrance to the quintessentially French Chateau made of hand-cut limestone. This property exudes opulence with an interior that is perfectly elegant, but not ostentatious. The gardens that surround the home are formal and transition to natural Ozark flora over the 300 acres and the property is elegantly placed on the edge of a bluff overlooking a large pastoral valley. Describing how the design integrates with the location, Goddard Design Group stated “timeless perfection that transports you to another time or place is the design scheme for this estate.

Antique statuary and grand elements punctuate the house’s landscape and create a true European feel”. The use of warm neutrals, French green and shades of blush ensure that the colour palette is timeless and provides a dignified finish which flows throughout the interior of the property. A custom apricot coloured silk was created to upholster the formal living room and dining room which are two spaces situated opposite each other in the home. Chris Goddard, Principal Designer for Goddard Design Group chose these as his favourite rooms in the house and explained that he upholstered one room with the front of the fabric and the other one with the backside of the fabric to create a warm and inviting transition to both rooms with a subtle contrast. In keeping with the brief from the client, the designers commissioned artisans to produce custom furnishings, bronze railings and plaster mouldings to an exquisite end. As this was to be used as a family home there were several personal touches added to reflect the clients’ personalities. These included love birds and morning glories added into the plaster mouldings to represent the couple’s love. There were also antique bricks from one of the couple’s favourite places used to construct the exposed brick wall in the kitchen, and large Flemish tapestry featuring an image of the home was commissioned for the great room. The delicate use of craftmanship to a high end quality has meant this property can be a warm and personal home. The interior of the property is expertly decorated with French antiques and furnishings along with a large collection of Barbizon School oil paintings. In order to acquire the perfect fabrics, period furniture, and architectural pieces for
the expansive home, Chris Goddard, Principal Designer at Goddard Design Group travelled extensively to furnish the property with the finest products. On reflection, Chris Goddard reminisced that “the best part of the project was the personal time spent with the client travelling all over to find unique pieces and collections for the home.” He continued by saying “I am truly honoured that she entrusted me to design this space and fulfil the vision that she and her late husband created. When asked about any challenges faced along the way, Chris Goddard explained there were two major challenges; sadly, he explained “the first was the loss of one of the clients who was the design architect of the home.” Unfortunately, when he passed away during the construction process, the building of the property slowed as his wife took a much needed break. Later, she took the decision to finish the Chateau in her loving husbands memory and placed her continued faith in Goddard Design Group’s expertise to complete the dream home the couple had envisioned. As the design brief given by the client was to include high quality design and craftsmanship, the second challenge the design team encountered was “locating skilled craftsman who were capable of executing complicated, detailed work which had to be done by hand.” This was overcome beautifully to create this opulent home including the use of art created by a trompe t’oeil master used previously by Gianni Versace. The property was completed in 10 years and truly pays homage to the couple’s vision and love. The client and Goddard Design Group continue to update the chateau’s interior to maintain the classic and timeless design.

“Whilst creating a classic and contemporary home, there is state-of-the-art technology incorporated in to the elegant design including, concealed television mirrors, home spa installations and cinema rooms.”
This relatively newly built modern house in Farnham, West Surrey was finished to a ordinary developer standard but Tailored Living Interiors’ client required a full refurbishment, aesthetically and structurally, to form a luxury private residence. Tailored Living Interiors were presented with a rather unusual brief where, for the first time in their history, there was no design brief for this 7 bedroom country house. The client’s only expectation was for the property to be warm, luxurious, comfortable and show their personalities. The wide brief in this project has given the designers the opportunity to showcase their high end designs and the sophistication in this project has seen them shortlisted for the Living Space UK category in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2020. Speaking on the awards, Gloria Sanchez states she feels these awards were important as they are “a great opportunity for recognition by the best industry body and an opportunity to discover the work of other great designers”. The client had enlisted Tailored Living Interiors to refurbish this Surrey residence based on the previous work they had completed on other properties. They were shown the projects the client liked best and asked to “do their thing” as the client did not want to interfere with the creative process. Being given a free reign on the design front, they were able to refurbish this country house to suit the client and be a comfortable way of life. Tailored Living Interiors worked with the original architecture of the property to enhance the existing features in addition to designing bespoke pieces to bring their 118 The World’s Most Glamorous Homes
designs to life. The art and accessories in the property are relevant to the design and respectful of the client’s culture. The initial objective was to encapsulate a balance between trendy and timeless in the use of the elegant colour palettes and fabrics. Whilst creating a classic and contemporary home, there is stateof-the-art technology incorporated in to the elegant design including, concealed television mirrors, home spa installations and cinema rooms. This contributes towards creating a personal and practical home for the clients. Upon entering the property a welcoming entrance hall which has been enhanced by a bespoke round banquette upholstered in sumptuous velvet which follows the curve of the staircase. This inviting area also includes a unique shoe cabinet which perfectly collides bespoke design with obvious functionality. The natural colours used in the entrance hall and continued throughout the property exudes a timeless luxury and warmth. There is an undeniable luxurious feel on first impressions which continues through to the dining area. After careful consideration of the perfect sized round dining room table, Tailored Living Interiors selected chairs that enhance the circle and pieced together all different elements which include the colour of the wood, the marble finish and the antique brass detailing. On discussing the dining room, Tailored Living Interiors said “it’s the attention to detail and consideration of finishes that heighten a design to ‘luxury status’”. Speaking of any challenges presented on the project, Tailored Living Interiors explained that the client wanted a bath
in the loft bathroom. This posed as a challenge due to the water flow to the top floor of the property. The designers overcame this challenge by raising the bath and shower and created a step which has resulted in a stunning effect to this large room. On reflection of this, Tailored Living Interiors concluded “I always say the best design’s sometimes come from overcoming challenges”. The client made Tailored Living Interiors aware that although they had a wide brief, they would need to include a disabled lift. This project highlighted to the designers that disabled lifts generally focus on practicalities rather than aesthetics. Tailored Living Interiors then set out to locate the more attractive model on the market and blended this seamlessly into the opulent design of the property. Lined with a rich textual wallpaper and glass walls, the designers were able to convert this lift to a premium and practical part of this private residence. A further challenge was presented when ensuring the exterior door to the lift, which perfectly matches the level of quality of the property, would close in time with the interior door to the lift. Working closely with the lift manufacturer, they were able to overcome this obstacle with an excellent result. This private residence has been designed perfectly to the taste of the client from enhancing the structure of the building and adding a disabled lift to the finer details of using gold and bronze colours to bring a sense of opulence. Tailored Living Interiors have designed a house that’s interior will stand the test of time and have been highly praised by their client for this elegant and comfortable living space.

“the walk-through shower is seamless and sits like a work of understated art behind a huge floor-to-ceiling glass panel that has been framed in black. tunning water views can be fully appreciated from the cavernous, handcrafted eclipse bath, adding a sanctuary-like feeling to the bathroom.”
Overlooking the stunning seaside of Bayview on Sydney’s Pittwater, the luxury master suite of Bayview House boasts a contemporary and sophisticated style. Renovated by Ioanna Lennox Interiors, the design brief was to deliver a master bedroom and ensuite that were worthy of a luxury hotel, catering to the needs of the client who spent much time travelling and wished to create a comparable space that he could call his own. The master suite refurbishment was part of a larger renovation and redecoration project that the Bayview house underwent, and the team at Ioanna Lennox Interiors have successfully defined the design direction and project managed the revitalisation of the home, complete with its soaring seven metre ceilings and breathtaking views. Ioanna Lennox Interiors began by redefining and expanding the space, in order to create the luxurious, contemporary master suite that the client desired. The existing walk-in-robe and ensuite were gutted and combined to create a spacious area for the new master ensuite, while the adjoining study was widened and enclosed to create a much more spacious walk-in-wardrobe. A sense of space was a quintessential aspect of the design of the bathroom, as this would evoke the feeling of luxury. Bringing this sense of space is an abundance of light in the finished project, with each fixture thoughtfully placed and considered. The size and location of the ensuite allowed for the opportunity
126 The World’s Most Glamorous Homes
to include two entry points into the new bathroom; one as a walk-through from the bedroom and one from the opposite side directly linking to the walk-in robe. Furthermore, the walk-through shower is seamless and sits like a work of understated art behind a huge floor-toceiling glass panel that has been framed in black. Stunning water views can be fully appreciated from the cavernous, handcrafted eclipse bath, adding a sanctuary-like feeling to the bathroom. The gentle curves of the bath, mirrored in the round cement basins and the tactile round taps, add an element of softness to the space, providing contrast to the moody aesthetic and strong lines. A key aspect of the ensuite is the envelope, with its three metre high porcelain marble panels and herringbone tiled floor, setting the stage for the bespoke fixtures and tapware. Journeying into the bedroom, the masculine palette continues with a smoky, midnight blue that is incorporated into the space. The feature wall behind the bed is wrapped in a hand-woven silk wallpaper in the same tonal colour as the rest of the room, while the high-end fixtures and furnishings evoke a sense of indulgence and romance while echoing the moody tones. A key aspect of the bedroom is the way in which colour is used tonally, and layered with textures and warmth in everything from the automated drapes and sheers, to the bed linen and silk wallpaper, to the artwork on the floor and the rug.
The inspired master suite has a cohesive narrative and flow, achieved by the considered space planning and functionality which were essential for the success of the design, adding to the exceptional result. All of the design elements have combined to create harmony and a sense of well-being, and the masculine palette is balanced by the curves and sumptuous textures of the soft furnishings, resulting in an overall refined contemporary aesthetic. For their careful and strategic planning to renovate the Baywater House into the opulent and contemporary residence of today, Ioanna Lennox Interiors have been shortlisted for Bathroom and Bedroom at The International Design & Architecture Awards. Commenting on the significance of the Awards, Ioanna Lennox, Creative Director, highlights that the Awards “are a fantastic forum to showcase innovation and talent from around the world.” She further expresses that “It’s a real honour to be part of such a great event, to have a voice and be standing amongst the best in the international design community.” Ioanna Lennox Interiors steered away from the traditional beach style or a Hamptons-inspired renovation, and instead took inspiration from six-star hotels of the world. The team remained cognizant that the final result had to fit in the relaxed Australian lifestyle, yet provide a sophisticated landing pad for their well-traveled client, who appreciates luxury and the finer aspects of life.

Inspired by the life of Charles-Louis Huguet de Montaran, marquis de Sémonville (former owner of this hotel particulier), a French diplomat who had been France’s ambassador to the Ottoman Empire (as well as to the Netherlands), CM Studio Paris’ brief was to rethink and reinvent the place. The designers wanted to create the illusion that each element of the décor had been there since the Hotel de Sémonville was built at the beginning of the reign of Louis the 14th. This apartment is bursting with history which creates a connection and coherence between the building and the interior decoration. There are unmistakable references to France and the Grand Siècle but it is also imbued with references from Italy where marquis de Sémonville used to live during his diplomatic career. CM Studio Paris considered architectural elements of time in each room of the apartment, including Versailles style parquet flooring, façades, ceilings, main staircase and living room beams, which are fundamental to the antiquity of the property. When asked how they feel the design of La Maison Sémonville integrates in to the wider environment, John Coury, Partner in CM Studio Paris explained “the design is fully consistent with the environment in the sense that we furnished the apartment in a way that is totally consistent with the interior life of this kind of hotels particuliers located in the Marais district of Paris”

With a ceiling height of five metres, the living room is the centrepiece of the apartment. This impressive room’s 17th century painted beams are listed by the historical monument of France. The original features of this property are accompanied by an old Iranian carpet covering the floor and the Tassinari & Chatel fabrics covering the sofas and armchairs along with the red silk velvet curtains bringing warmth to this space. Keeping the room light, CM Studio Paris have fitted a full guardrail for the second floor which can be seen from the splendid living room. CM Studio Paris have respectfully decorated the room with two sizeable imposing canvas painting, by Italian Renaissance painter, Andrea Vicentino. Perfectly combining the opulence of the property and history of the former owner, there is a 17th century portrait of Felipe the second of Spain and 16th and 18th century paintings with a Flemish influence. The use of art throughout this apartment, including Asian and African influenced pieces, show the designers knowledge in integrating this apartment with its history. As the dining room can only seat eight people, this is a smaller room in the property and one which the designers wanted to give great attention in magnifying this room. When discussing the dining room, CM Studio Paris stated “the smaller the space is, the more luxurious and impressive it needs to be so that you only remember how big it was”. The designers have certainly achieved that aim by hanging a magnificent 17th century painting from the French painter, Charles Errard which represents the encounter between Cleopatra and Marcus Antonius. Alongside this, there is a tailormade mirror echoing the magnificent gold and copper mirror dating from the 17th century that is hanged on the opposite side of the wall. These bespoke mirrors, along with the dining table and chairs dated from the 18th century which came from the famous Hotel de Bourienne, create a magical and poetic space. The master bedroom has been treated in a more modern way by the designers, to create a cosy and intimate boudoir atmosphere. The use of pink hues on the walls and pink and royal green colours in all of the curtains, bedcovers and chairs make this space light and inviting but perfectly innkeeping with the rest of the property. The exquisite use of artwork
continues to the master bedroom with contemporary photographs from Chinese artists Liu Tao and Shen Wei which intertwine with the designers inspiration for this room of the “Turkish boudoir” of Marie Antoinette and echoes the position of the marquis de Sémonville in the Ottoman Empire. The designers described how they felt lucky to find a monumental 17th century stone fireplace but were equally disappointed to have had to remove an untasteful staircase arriving in the middle of the fireplace. This restructuring was one amongst many in this property which was not originally designed to be used as a luxury apartment. CM Studio Paris explained how one of the bathrooms became a kitchen, the master bedroom became a dressing room with a bathroom and the new master bedroom was a combination of the old kitchen and one of the old bathrooms which overlooked the courtyard. The designers explained “it is truly the architecture, scale and light of that helped us assign each room’s final function”. This apartment has been filled with specified pieces as the designers wanted to be consistent with the external and internal architecture and had the “Carte Blanche” to use their expertise with this property. Working well together, Florent Maillard and John Coury’s skills and knowledge complement one another. John explains, “Florent, who is the descendant of a famous architect, has lots of skills in designing and restructuring and, being a descendant of art and antique collectors, I am more skilled in choosing colors, objects and creating an overall decor. Florent has a more contemporary eye and I have a more classical vision. Confronting our views and tastes has always been very fruitful and exciting and seems to generate lots of satisfaction from our customers who in most cases end up becoming close friends”. Furnished with antiques and pieces of furniture from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries sourced from all over the world, mingling with contemporary art works create the illusion of timelessness in the interior of the apartment. This apartment is a great example of a renovation and decoration project that did not destroy the poetry and spirit of the original place whilst adding an additional touch of magic and fantasy to this amazing place.

“The clients worked very hard with contractors and craftsmen to bring their ideas to life whilst also trusting SKIN Interior Design’s instincts as designers on how the entire home should flow and blend.”
This old home in Chicago, Illinois with classic bones and regal architecture was in need of revitalisation to become a fresh living space with clean lines and light running throughout. The client loved the original features of this property but needed the space to be modern yet timeless and the design to be a reflection of their taste and lifestyle. SKIN Interior Design were given a brief by the client to lighten up this family home to create a sophisticated living space that realised their vision. The clients worked very hard with contractors and craftsmen to bring their ideas to life whilst also trusting SKIN Interior Design’s instincts as designers on how the entire home should flow and blend. The client completely trusted their plan for scale and design along with the mix of material and placement of furniture. The previously dark satined glass windows were replaced with clear metal with a glass design which is a perfect entrance into this light and renewed home. Moving into the property, the designers have brought the outdoors in with the use of natural colours throughout such as greens, blues, whites and blacks. These colours are a perfect contrast to the white base inside this property. SKIN Interior Design were informed that the client loves navy, black and green so colours have been added to the light for a pop of drama to the décor. The property was originally filled with dark wood paneling throughout the home that the designers were instructed to lighten whilst not losing its original appeal to the clients. The paneling was painted white with Farrow & Ball “All

White” to provide an airy, fresh feeling to the entrance to the property and the living room. In order to create a warm setting in the living room, the walls have been expertly saturated in a navy Phillip Jeffries textural wall covering, in keeping with the clients love of dramatic use of colours. SKIN Interior Design decided to customise the television media and bookcases and added Macassar Ebony paneled doors to add to the richness of the room. This space has been decorated with a seamless mix of materials and colour which showcase each element of the room.
elegant room with more space. The use of timeless materials with modern furniture and lighting has led to a sophisticated bathroom with a modern edge. The walls have been filled with contemporary art which continue the modern yet timeless theme throughout the property. The powder room has been decorated with Hermes wallpaper which pulls all of the colours running through this property together with a striking use of blues and greens. SKIN Interior Design left no detail untouched and paid attention to every corner of the home which is visible in its decadence.
The dining room has a dramatic effect with black painted walls with stunning white trims but the focal point to this space is the use of the vintage Chinoiserie which adds to the opulence of this dining space. Sourced in Europe, the wallpaper adds light along with the custom built wood panels designed to enclose each one. A modern light has been added which impeccably juxtaposes old and new in this vivid room and is emphasised further by the inpouring of natural light in this room.
On reflection, SKIN Interior Design describe how the white moldings in this property were their favourite aspect as these were all painted white as a further way to brighten the space from the original dark wood. The designers explained how the painters were key to the success of this project as there was not one part of the home that was not painted. The designers believed the painters “attention to detail and finish was key to making this project stand out”.
The flow of the design continues effortlessly into the kitchen where the existing cabinets have been painted to add an elegant splash of colour whilst also maintaining some of the property’s original features. The existing hardware has been dipped in brass to transform the old maple cabinets into a fun, vibrant space. SKIN Interior Design used metallic gold deco inspired backsplash which adds some extravagance to the kitchen whilst also remaining classic.
When asked how the clients felt once their project was complete, SKIN Interiors Design explained how the client’s extreme gratitude would make any designer proud but believe that the clients were true collaborators of the space. In working harmoniously together, the designers and the client have reinvigorated this property to become a magnificently light living space. The natural light filled spaces create a mood of peace and tranquility in every room of this home and the combination of the old world architecture with the art work and clean lines of the furniture work flawlessly with each other.

“The estate channels the natural elements which inspire the clean lines of the home along with a bright and fresh colour scheme”
This is an opulent estate in the premier neighbourhood of Shaughnessy Vancouver, Canada which has been designed by T. Jones Group Sublime using the natural elements of fire, earth, water, metal and wood to create a luxurious home for the client. The brief for this property was to create a dream home that exudes lavish comfort but is durable and fit for a family with children and pets. The estate channels the natural elements which inspire the clean lines of the home along with a bright and fresh colour scheme. Elements Estate has seen T. Jones Group & Sublime shortlisted for The International Design and Architecture Awards 2020. When discussing the awards, Cameron Jones, President & Designer at T. Jones Group states he believes these are important to acknowledge the craftsmanship behind the work and for other countries to see the difference in styles from around the world. He also believes these awards are beneficial to gain an international reputation for any designers work and to keep the design teams moral high and clients’ appreciation for the work done by designers. The double height foyer is the first indication of the grandeur of the property and the traditional layout enables the property to be an excellent home for a family. The use of dark wood and glass panels for the rounded staircase in addition to the front door act as an effortless contrast to the clean, white base in this space. The designers have also integrated hidden privacy doors connecting different zones for smooth circulation and flow from the foyer

through to the kitchen and into the rest of the home. An undeniably glamourous entertainer kitchen on the main floor has been designed to be an indulgent space without losing the practical elements needed for a family kitchen. The custom white cabinets allow for a bright kitchen with integrated appliances and a hidden door to the butler’s kitchen keeping the design consistent. T. Jones Group & Sublime have created an optical illusion with the custom leveled ceiling detail with smoked mirrors that accentuate the height of the space along with full height storage throughout the room to maintain the practicalities. In addition to this, flanking glass has been added to enhance the decorative balance and visual relief. With the brief in mind, the designers installed a stylish island that has been fabricated in a Calacatta Gold ceramic marble slab for extreme durability fit for a family as well as entertaining guests. The elegance from the main floor flows gracefully to the basement with luxury jewel tones throughout. This flexible open concept has been designed for large and intimate social gatherings with a two person kitchen that leads to the outdoor living space which provides for an entertaining retreat. The extravagance of the property continues to the basement with a full bar, pool, lounge, private theatre and a gym. As T. Jones Group & Sublime have continued the use of the natural elements, there is an automated sliding door system leading directly to the outdoor living space.
Taking inspiration from British Columbia’s beautiful natural setting, the rock waterfall evokes feelings of being on a mountain’s edge, nestled on a cliff. The designers have used natural elements to create privacy in the outdoor area such as tall hedges and foliage to create the ultimate secluded al fresco living area. In order to make the most of the homes outdoor space, it has been equipped with a fully functioning kitchen and pizza oven for expanding the entertaining area. With the swimming pool and spa seamlessly connected with glass doors, T. Jones & Sublime have made full use of the home’s gardens. The design concept from T. Jones Group & Sublime fuses time periods together and creates harmony and balance for an awe-inspiring retreat within the city. When asked how they feel the project was brought to fruition, the designers believed it was “the passion of the work and the long term project commitment”. With the use of harmony, unity and the repetition of motifs and large scale features, while maintaining clean, bright colour scheme with intentional contrast adds drama throughout the home. To keep the property bright, the designers have chosen magnificent lighting in the property which combine the natural elements and colour scheme flawlessly. This dream home has been designed to exude luxury from all floors to the outdoors due to its quality, beauty and nobility and has met the brief impeccably in creating a sophisticated home that is robust enough for a family with children and pets.

“The use of full height glass curtain walls, generous balconies, mirrored ceiling and walls reflecting the light and views form outside and glass railings, the design allows the occupant to immediately feel immersed into the vista, at a vantage point that many can only dream of”. 3 Orchard by the park is a triple storey penthouse of approximately 7,000 square foot that encompasses six bedrooms and a swimming pool located on its roof terrace. The luxurious penthouse that resides along orchard boulevard comes fully furnished by SuMisura, who cleverly re-laid the interiors to enhance the usable space and incorporated beautiful designer pieces to add a sense of decadence. The client’s brief was to create a gorgeous show unit, befitting of the wealthy class, well-heeled buyers who can appreciate the high life and who want to own a rare, freehold super penthouse in a city like Singapore. In addition, the designer was instructed to intervene sensitively to what the architect, Antonia Citerio, had already added to the property, which in itself, was already a high benchmark of luxury. Speaking about how the design integrates into the wider environment Angela Lim, Director of SuMisura commented “The penthouse sits along Singapore’s busiest shopping belt - Orchard Road and yet the view boats of the vast greenery on one end where all the low rise and good class of bungalows are, and on the other end, where the iconic high rise cityscape is....Through the use of full height glass curtain walls, generous balconies, mirrored ceiling and walls reflecting the light and views form outside and glass railings, the design allows the occupant to immediately feel immersed into the vista, at a vantage point that many can only dream of.” The design team first turned the most controversial area within the property, a central glass enclosure containing a small courtyard with an outdoor staircase that leads up to the roof terrace, as well as a staircase railing that leads to the lower floor private bedrooms, into an island art piece known as the “Bocci installation”. An orchestra of bocci blown glass lights were carefully assembled above the stairway to illuminate the otherwise dark space. Together with the full height, padded storage cabinet at the corridor space, the orchestra of lights provided
162 The World’s Most Glamorous Homes
a nice backdrop for the sofa setting facing toward the tinted glass staircase enclosure, allowing its luminance to go beyond its intended area of influence. From a central stairway, which divided the living room, blocking out the vastness of the space, the designer has transformed it into a beautiful piece of art. Situated at the property’s central glass enclosure via a long corridor way is a very generous and private dining space. Supported by a high gloss, dark moch kitchenette and two large contemporary artworks that flank the two walls and bring the expansive view of the city from the L-shaped window into focus. SuMisura incorporated two dimmable, multi-tiered lights that sit above the table, casting a soft glow in the evening above guests as they dine, creating a magical effect at night. In addition, the design team included floral arrangement and kenzo vases in the dining space, providing the room with a tapestry of hues. Moving through to the penthouse’s Master Bedroom, it exudes elegance as accessories from the most sought after decor labels spill over every corner of the long, ivory spray painted cabinet. The designer was very clear that the bedroom design was to be based on a cosy retreat and somewhere where residents could relax and feel soothed. Due to the proximity to the Music Lounge, the designer kept to a similar light coloured scheme, focussing instead on detailing, playing with textures and decorating the bedroom in shades of beige and ivory tones. The designer incorporated handcrafted furniture pieces showing metal inserts and intricate curved details providing an intriguing contrast to the subtle finishings of the angular spaces the designer originally inherited. Textured wallcoverings and soft fabrics adorn the beds and window dressings, making the room feel warm and welcoming. Equally luxurious is the property’s Junior Master Bedroom which was originally a much smaller room. The designer attributed space from the store right next
to the long corridor to make this a much more generous bedroom. Fitting in an illuminated glass L shaped wardrobe, the showcase has become quite a sight to behold in this newly revamped space. The new design incorporates soft fabrics and textured wallcoverings, much like the Master Bedroom, in order to create a sanctuary for the occupant. In addition, the designers created Bedroom three which was designed as a hardworking bedroom, with the additional function of an interactive study. The designer imagined this room to be a space for a growing teen where the swivel table turns into an interactive space when a friend comes over to visit. The table and bench is situated against the wall to allow for maximum circulation of space within the room. The artwork on the bedhead punctuates the orange with a tinge of gold amongst the taupe, ivory and beige. A beautiful and unique aspect of the property is the Linear Library. The designer recognised that this would be a passage which all guests would pass through, and so decided to create a tall library of books and collectibles, coupled with a bar that faces a window of magnificent views. Moreover, the designer incorporated a Music Lounge, which is cited as one of the favourite aspects of the property. The Music Lounge is elegant and classic in its design, featuring a clean white grand piano, a wine storage display underneath the staircase and opulent textures and fabrics to create a feel of an exclusive music venue. Speaking about how the design works so well, Angela Lim said “The designer left no stone unturned in the exploration of usable space...much of the space was either dissected into pockets and hidden away or divided by certain architectural elements.” 3 Orchard Penthouse is a oneof-a-kind property where one can escape everyday life and find sanctuary in their very own home. SuMisura have surpassed the client’s initial brief and have cleverly re-laid the interiors to create space and reimagined rooms.
