Twenty years after writing a book about changing the life of a shelter dog, June Hundley Dice has finally published "Meet Shy Guy." Dice never thought she would see the 32-page children’s paperback book published because of the steep cost of publishing. But a chance meeting with TL Smith of Us Three Publishing helped bring the book to life. June has several events and signings a year that are magical and local. A fun family event and all ages love her. Grab your book and be sure to get it signed. You can meet and greet for your local VIP book event. June Hundley Dice has published "Meet Shy Guy."
Dice wrote it after 25 years and never thought she would see a page in the children’s paperback book. Her dream came true and was published by a miracle meeting because of Candice her granddaughter. It is now because TL Smith of Us Three Publishing brought the book to life. The printing was done by June’s friend Nancy Sian. Always dream even if you are a small-town gal. I prayed for it to make it one day to print,” Dice said. “Visions do come true even at 75 years old. Dice’s writing includes two songs: “Is that a star?” and “King of Angels.” and written 16 poems since finishing the book. The family has a heart of gold always helping others. It was no surprise that the Dice family was out helping many Sanford families after the 2020 flooding. Grandma taught us,” said Sarah Tasior, one of Dice's grandkids.

The story was inspired by how adoption changed Shy Guy’s life,” Dice said. “This turns him into a happy dog.”
The book reflects her grandchildren taking the dog to the beach, playing frisbee with him, getting him a bone, taking him to the vet, and more. To be loving to animals,” Dice said and to help the ones living in a shelter. That was the inspiration for the book.
Dice, a mother of four, has 11 grandchildren and 13 greatgrandchildren with another on the way. The book features many of Dice’s then-younger grandchildren. Now, those same grandchildren are reading the book to their children, Dice’s great-grandchildren.
She and her late husband, Daniel, would go to the shelter and adopt animals. She knew that a lot of animals were not finding homes. The couple adopted multiple animals at one time to save them. A bird adopted them it was named Cooley, Cooley. The bird flew into Daniel’s truck window and loved to take a ride with him living 3 years before it passed. June has a cat that she adopted from the shelter currently.
The book was illustrated by air-brush artist Famous Jamous. The Dice family is well-known in the Sanford area for their giving hearts. When Dice’s children were younger, she was the neighborhood “mom” and her house is still full of children.
