However, improper mulch application creates issues for your plants and landscape. Remove deteriorated mulch before adding more, to minimize rot and pests. Getting mulch depth right is also essential to its effectiveness. Generally, a 3 inch depth of mulch is ideal for most areas, but can vary depending upon soil and foliage type and specific conditions of your landscape.
