Elaine Kim, designer of her Los Angeles based luxury clothing line, is settling into her newly opened boutique in downtown Ketchum. On a recent morning, she moved between racks and fixtures, adjusting displays and preparing the space for winter visitors.
Kim first arrived as a seasonal pop-up two years ago. Since then, she and her team have transformed the former Tribes Showroom near Rasberrys into a gallery-style retail space for her line and an exclusive selection of accessories.
“It’s been a pleasure to introduce Elaine Kim to Sun Valley,” says Deborah “Burnsie” Burns, Visual Merchandising and Client Experience Consultant for the store. “She brings dedication and a clear point of view. It’s exciting to see her clothing come to life on the women who shop here.”
Burns notes that the town has become a destination for visitors and residents with strong ties to larger cities. “Her work fits into that shift,” she says.

Kim views the Ketchum store as a place to refine her approach to dressing and styling. “This store is my design lab,” she says. “I see what people want to wear here, what they need, and how pieces should work together. Clients know I design for longevity and flexibility, not just for a season.”
Now entering her second winter in Ketchum, Kim is broadening her core lineup with cold-weather items. A brand new collection of sweaters, outerwear, and footwear—including novelty cowboy boots— will roll out in early December.
Throughout the winter, the boutique will host “Styling Fridays,” informal gatherings with refreshments for customers and friends who frequent the space. Many refer to it as the “office” or “clubhouse.” “All are welcome,” Kim says. S
You can visit Elaine Kim Ketchum/Sun Valley (411 5th Street East, Ketchum) Mondays through Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sundays from 12 pm to 5 pm.

People are at the heart of great health care. That’s why we are committed to delivering compassionate, high-quality care tailored to the communities we serve. Together with our community partners and patients, we are building a stronger, healthier future for all Idahoans.

When a skier suffered a fractured leg near Hyndman Peak last April, the swift and coordinated response by Air St. Luke’s and local Emergency Management Service agencies transformed a potentially life-threatening situation into a successful rescue. This mission—executed in steep, snowy terrain at nearly 11,000 feet—was a powerful preview of the life-saving capabilities now permanently stationed in the Wood River Valley.
On August 9, St. Luke’s Health System expanded its emergency medical transport program by placing a helicopter and specialty medical team at St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center. This strategic move directly supports St. Luke’s mission to improve the health of people in the communities it serves by ensuring rapid access to high-quality care, especially in rural and mountainous regions where time is critical.
The backbone of this expansion is the Bell 429 helicopter, a dual-engine aircraft selected for its high-altitude performance, speed, and safety. Capable of landing in remote, rugged terrain, the Bell 429 is equipped with ICU-level technology including ventilators, cardiac monitors, and infusion pumps—allowing crews to deliver advanced care en route. Being stationed at the hospital also gives the crew the capability of carrying whole blood, which can be crucial in treating trauma cases.
Since its arrival, Air St. Luke’s has responded to multiple emergencies, including injured hikers and a heart attack patient in Carey. That flight took just 12 minutes—compared to over an hour by ground. In cases like STEMI heart attacks, where national guidelines allow up to 120 minutes for rural transport, this speed can mean the difference between life and death.
“Rapid identification, activation, response, and transport have been instrumental in patient outcomes,” said Blaine Patterson, EMS Director for Air St. Luke’s. These capabilities reflect St. Luke’s commitment to excellence, safety, and innovation in care delivery.
The program also strengthens community partnerships. The April rescue involved a high level of coordination between Air St. Luke’s, Blaine County, Ketchum Fire and Rescue, and local skiers. Prior joint training in avalanche and helicopter safety enabled the team to execute a complex extraction with precision and trust.

“Rapid
identification, activation, response, and transport have been instrumental in patient outcomes.”
— Blaine Patterson
“Our crews train constantly, but they also adapt in real time,” said Jeffrey Safley, RN, rotor wing supervisor. “Their ability to think critically and act safely is second to none.”
Beyond emergency response, the Air St. Luke’s membership program supports the system’s mission by making care more accessible and sustainable.
For $65 per year, members receive financial protection and help fund local EMS training and equipment. “Most of our membership dollars go right back into the community,” said Patterson.
Air St. Luke’s also operates bases in Boise and Twin Falls, serving Southern Idaho, Eastern Oregon, and Northern Nevada. Through partnerships with the Association of Air Medical Membership Programs (AAMMP) and Life Flight Network, coverage extends across the Pacific Northwest and Northern California.
“This new resource reflects our continued partnership and shared commitment to delivering timely, life-saving care,” said Blaine County Sheriff Morgan Ballis.
For those who live, work, and explore Idaho’s wild places, Air St. Luke’s is more than a helicopter—it’s a lifeline, and a clear embodiment of St. Luke’s mission in action. S

Every turn I take, on snow and in life, starts with how I show up. Ski racing may be measured in fractions of a second, but what leads to those moments is everything that happens behind the scenes: my training, my mindset, my recovery, my belief.
I’m a professional alpine ski racer from Sun Valley, Idaho. I’m also an independent athlete competing on the World Cup circuit in pursuit of my Olympic dream. I’ve been skiing since I could walk, shaped by the mountain community that raised me and continues to fuel my journey. Competing outside the U.S. Ski Team means carving my own path, one built on grit, gratitude, and the people who help me keep pushing forward.
For me, this path isn’t just about skiing, or skiing fast… yes, it is a huge bonus when that happens… It’s about honoring the process that makes my journey possible. My community, my body, and my heart all work together. The time I spend with my coaches, trainers, and mentors carries the same weight as the time I spend on the snow. They remind me that performance is built on presence, and that showing up with intention is everything. Ski with purpose, live with purpose.
This journey wouldn’t be possible without the team that keeps me grounded, strong, and striving toward more:
BLAIR BROWN – Monarch Longevity Center
Performance & Recovery • Mental Resilience
• Off-Snow Director & Coach
Blair is equal parts strategist, sage, and sergeant, the fairy godmother I didn’t know I needed. Through Monarch’s integrated approach and her relentless accountability, I’ve been invited to rise in every area of my life.
DR. AARON STERN – Ketchum Chiropractic
Body Alignment • Muscle Activation • Structural Integrity
Aaron’s work goes far beyond the structure of my body. His precision and compassion have taught me that alignment in the body mirrors alignment in life.
MICHAEL ROLLINS – Timeout Human Performance
Integrated Bodywork • Bioenergetics • Brain-Speed Optimization
Michael sees potential others miss. His relentless pursuit of improvement has elevated not just my physical performance but my understanding of what it means to level up.

TIM HANNA – Training in Motion
Holistic Strength & Conditioning • Dynamic Movement
• Functional Power
Tim’s patient, precise coaching reminds me that true strength is quiet, consistent, and connected – mind, body, and spirit in motion.
This season, I’m racing with a full heart. Fueled by the people who believe in me, the work that keeps me balanced, and the love I have for what I get to do every day. Because how I show up for life is exactly how I’ll show up on course. I cannot thank my community enough for believing in me through this incredible journey. This is #whatittakes.

By Sheriff Morgan Ballis, Blaine County Sheriff’s Office

The Blaine County Commissioners proclaimed the week of November 10, 2025 as the “USS Idaho SSN 799” week across Blaine County. The purpose of the proclamation was to bring awareness of the new Virginia Class nuclear-powered fast attack submarine named the USS Idaho, SSN 799. Christened in 2024, the SSN 799 is scheduled to be commissioned in the Spring of 2026 and is currently undergoing sea trials. The SSN 799 is the fifth United States naval vessel named after the state of Idaho and it has been more than 100 years since the last ship to bear the name of the Gem State.
To honor this historic occasion, the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office held a ceremony to unveil their newly wrapped patrol vehicle. Dubbed the “Gem of the Fleet”, every detail was intentional and symbolic. The hood displays a sonar signal probing the depths of the ocean, the gas cap showcases the state of Idaho with the year 1890 when she was granted her statehood, and the bottom of the tailgate has the SSN 799 broaching the surface of the water. The Gem of the Fleet will be operated by Sgt Allen Compton, a U.S. Army and Idaho Army National Guard veteran.
The landlocked state of Idaho has played a foundational role in the development of our nation’s naval forces. During World War II, Camp Farragut in Northern Idaho trained more than 55,000 sailors and more than 4,000 radio operators trained at the University of Idaho in Moscow. The Idaho Nuclear Lab in Arco was home to the U.S. Naval Proving Ground from 1942 to 1949 where the first nuclear prototype submarine reactor was created. In Blaine County, Sun Valley Resort was transformed into a U.S. Naval Convalescent Hospital serving wounded sailors and Marines. Blaine County’s service to the Navy continues as the Culinary Specialists of the SSN 799 were trained by chefs from the Sun Valley Culinary Institute. The first meal served aboard SSN 799 included elk and Idaho grown potatoes.
The event also included a traditional cake cutting ceremony for the Marine Corps’ 250th birthday. A mameluke sword, symbolizing the Marines’ commitment to carrying the sword so our nation may live in peace, was used to cut the cake. The first piece of cake was given to the guest of honor, Blaine County employee Jon Eaton, a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer and submariner. The second piece of cake was given to the oldest Marine present, Captain Jack Regan who served during the Vietnam War. The eldest Marine then passed the piece of cake to the youngest Marine representing the passing of knowledge. The youngest Marine present was Blaine County Sheriff Deputy Christian Crusberg who served in Afghanistan.

The USS Idaho SSN 799 week also paid tribute to those who served “calling upon our citizens, public and private institutions, businesses, and schools to honor our nation’s veterans, active duty service members, and their families.” S

Since we opened our doors in 1948, Sturtevants has been known for providing exceptional customer service from the most qualified staff. Come visit us for personalized boot fitting, precision ski tuning, the best rental gear, world-class gear and apparel, and free local advice to make your days that much better. Your adventure starts here!

Who the heck ever came up with the idea of strapping their boots to boards for the purpose of sliding on snow?

No doubt some crazy, burly footed Viking.
Generations of skiers since have praised whoever it was to Ullr, all the while cursing the pain in their feet at the end of each glorious day.
Today, with the blend of art and science practiced by leading bootfitters and an expansive, carefully curated selection of modern ski boots, that is all ancient history.
A good bootfitter will start with a careful analysis of both feet and ankles. Then will work with you to find the most compatible boots.
Since not all feet are the same, with differing ankle alignment, stability, and rigidity, good bootfitters offer a choice of footbed options to ensure the best possible connection between foot and ski.
Modern ski boots offer many customizable features. Most liners, as well as many shells, are heat moldable. Our bootfitters are skilled at employing all the technology the industry offers, as well as handshaping boot shells or building up liners for a perfect fit.
Additions to the arsenal are both foam-injected and thermo-fit replacement liners that push the limits of performance.
Put your feet into the hands of a trained and experienced bootfitter to guide you through the process of artfully leveraging all the science available in modern ski boots to achieve a high-performance, high-comfort fit.
Finally, to increase your success in shopping for new skiboots, find a shop that stands behind its work. Ski shops such as Sturtevants’ with their exceptional full-season Boot Fit Guarantee secure your boot shopping experience, with the promise of extraordinary follow-up service as the boot breaks in. S

The Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan is known by many as the happiest country in the world. In fact, Bhutan’s primary socio-economic indicator is Gross National Happiness (GNH), a statistic coined and implemented by Bhutan’s fourth king, Jigme Singye Wangchuk. Though small in geographic size, measuring only 200 miles east to west and 90 miles north to south, the kingdom happily offers immense outdoor recreation opportunities. Activities include kayaking, rafting, trekking, birdwatching, wildlife viewing, mountain biking and, for the first time in history, flyfishing.
Technically, flyfishing for introduced brown trout and native snow trout has been allowed since 1974 but the recent approval of a national recreational angling program for Golden and Chocolate Mahseer, two of the rarest and most desirable species for international anglers, was only opened in 2023. And for the first time in the kingdom’s history, an eco-lodge

designed specifically for anglers, Manas River Lodge, has opened its doors to the international angling market.
Manas River Lodge is located on the banks of the Mangde Chhu river, one of Bhutan’s mahseer strongholds, and rests within the borders of Royal Manas National Park, a true gem of the kingdom’s National Park system. Surrounded by natural wonders including rivers, streams, waterfalls and mountainous jungles that hold elephants, tigers, leopards, rhinoceros, wild buffalo, multiple primate species and nearly 800 bird species, Manas River Lodge is a high-end haven situated in one of the most biodiverse locales on the planet.
Though remote, Bhutan is remarkably easy to get to. Flights on Druk Air, Royal Bhutan Airlines, arrive regularly from Bangkok, New Delhi, Singapore, Dubai and Kathmandu among other international hubs. Once arrived in-kingdom, visitors will enjoy unique and spectacular sightseeing opportunities including the famed cliffside Tiger’s Nest monastery, the world’s largest Sitting Buddha statue, the Punakha Dzong (a fortress built in the 1600s to protect villagers from Tibetan invaders) and other Buddhist points of interest.
Transportation to Manas River Lodge is primarily accomplished by helicopter which makes for an unforgettable experience high above the mountainous topography of the Eastern Himalayas. Upon landing in Royal Manas National Park, guests are met by vehicles which deliver them to their lodgings after a short five-minute drive. Welcomed by the lodge’s highly trained service team, guests are then invited to share a riverside welcome drink and cool lemongrassinfused face towel as they are blessed by local Buddhist monks in advance of their angling adventure.
Manas River Lodge’s daily operations are overseen by
Nawang Tenzin, formerly the Assistant Manager of the Aman Resorts in Bhutan, one of the kingdom’s five-star lodging options. Nawang’s staff of highly trained service professionals ensure that each guest is pampered during their visit and the kitchen staff of former Aman chefs and assistants provides a culinary experience that is second to none in the kingdom.
Although non-angling guests are welcome and encouraged to join, Manas River Lodge was created in an effort to introduce anglers to the unique and previously unfished waters of spectacular southern Bhutan. Over the course of the week-long stay, guests will primarily fish from NRS rafts equipped with fishing frames, casting platforms, lean bars and comfortable seats intended to reproduce a western-style angling experience. Additionally, anglers will walk-andwade in select areas and even fish directly in front of the lodge on MRL’s private beach. By any measure, this is a fishing experience unlike any other offered in the international angling market.
Golden Mahseer (Tor putitora) and Chocolate Mahseer (Neolissochilus hexagonolepis) are two target species which are endemic to the Himalayan Range and have only recently garnered the attention of most international anglers. Primarily pursued in India, the mahseer’s reputation has grown as adventurous anglers have begun to explore the remote waters of the Himalayas and a limited amount of social media has begun to focus on highlighting these rare and incredibly strong river-dwelling fish. Manas River Lodge stands as the only mahseer-specific fishing lodge located not only in Bhutan but across the entirety of the Himalayan range.
Simply stated, Manas River Lodge provides a unique angling adventure in an idyllic Himalayan setting while simultaneously offering a five-star lodging and culinary experience. Combine this attention to guest satisfaction with the calming sounds of the flowing Mangde Chhu river, the calls of Great Hornbills flying overhead, the thrill of a screaming fishing reel and the cultural uniqueness of Bhutan and her people and visitors can rest assured that they will discover unfettered happiness in the heart of the Himalayas. S

As All Seasons Landscaping marks 35 years in the Wood River Valley, we look back on what’s lasted and what continues to grow.
Every season brings change to the Valley. What matters most is how you respond to it.
For 35 years, we’ve responded the same way. By showing up, doing the job right the first time and ultimately creating a culture of growth.
What began as a small lawn maintenance outfit in 1990 has grown alongside the Valley and the people we serve. Today, we’re one of the few local teams able to construct, repair, plant and care for outdoor spaces in every season.
From stonework and planting to smart irrigation management and ongoing maintenance, we’re the team who handles it all.
This year marks an important step forward as we welcome Matt Taylor to our leadership team.
Matt brings more than two decades of operational leadership experience with a people-first approach shaped by his work in engineering operations and global teams.
A Marine Corps veteran, husband and father, he approaches this work
with steadiness and respect for the people who make up the Valley his family now calls home.
“Good companies are built by good people,” Matt says.
“At All Seasons, the work we do matters because the team behind it matters. My focus is helping our people grow and ensuring our clients feel that same level of care in everything we do.”
Matt joins our team alongside our longtime owner, Mark Martens, who remains involved in the company. Mark’s knowledge, craftsmanship and long-standing relationships continue to anchor our work as we plan for our next chapter. Our motto has stayed simple over the years:
GROW WITH US.
To us, that means showing up with consistency, taking responsibility for our work and earning the trust placed in us; season after season.
We don’t just maintain and build outdoor spaces; we build trust, accountability and relationships that last.
As we reflect on 35 years in the Wood River Valley, we’re grateful for the people and places that have shaped our journey.
With Mark providing continuity and Matt bringing fresh insight, we step into the next chapter anchored by the principles that have guided us from the start.
The Valley keeps growing, and so do we. We’re proud of our roots and we’re committed to our future. S

Teagen and Hagan’s wedding weekend felt like the best version of home. Both grew up in the Wood River Valley, so getting married there wasn’t just sentimental, it felt like the most natural expression of who they are. They wanted the weekend to feel relaxed, welcoming, and real, surrounded by the people and the landscape that have shaped their lives.
Friends and family arrived and immediately fell into that easy, familiar rhythm where everyone can just be themselves and the laughter comes quickly. The whole weekend felt less like a formal event and more like everyone coming together to celebrate a story they had all been part of.
On the morning of the wedding, the sun rose over the mountains and cast golden light across the fields. Teagen got ready with her bridesmaids and closest friends, many of whom have been part of her life since childhood. Meanwhile, Hagan and his groomsmen spent the morning hanging out and playing on the golf simulator, the kind of relaxed, easy start that felt very them.
The ceremony took place in an open field with mountain views stretching wide behind them. Before walking down the aisle, Teagen and Hagan exchanged personal vows privately,

just the two of them, which made the moment feel grounded and intimate. And of course, their dog Zoya made her entrance down the aisle in a flower collar, fully aware she was the star.
Throughout the day, there were meaningful nods to Teagen’s mom and Hagan’s dad, both of whom have passed. Honoring them was deeply important, but done in a subtle, thoughtful way that felt natural and full of love.
After the ceremony, the celebration took off quickly. Cocktails, hugs, heartfelt toasts, and a dance floor that was full all night long. As the sun set, Teagen and Hagan slipped away for a quiet walk through the fields, sprinklers misting behind them and golden light everywhere.
The night ended under a clear Idaho sky, surrounded by the people who have been part of their story from the start. S

Kate and Dave started dating as sophomores in college in Dallas, and in the eight years since, Sun Valley became their most cherished spot to get away from their work in Washington, D.C. Kate’s family had been regulars in Sun Valley for decades, and Dave was more than willing to tag along. Before Dave even popped the question, (but after asking for the parents’ blessing), Dave and Kate’s family got to work booking Bald Mountain for the wedding, and the result could not have been more perfect.
The festivities began with guests greeted by flutes of champagne before taking the gondola to Roundhouse. The groomsmen, suited in navy and sky blue, helped friends and family disembark to the ceremony locale overlooking the breathtaking valley. Kate’s bridesmaids, adorned in complementary shades of blue, assisted the beautiful bride with her final touches. The mild, late summer air was complemented by a guitar, sax, and clarinet trio from The Famous Undercover Band, pastel bouquets of hydrangeas, peonies, and roses from Tara Bella Flowers, all beautifully orchestrated through impeccable wedding planning from Amanda Seaward. The ceremony, incorporating both Christian and Jewish faiths, reminded the audience of the love and lessons that come with life and marriage, and of course, ended with the ceremonial stomping of the glass.
Following the once-in-a-lifetime experience of huckleberry mules and passed hors d’oeuvres at Roundhouse, guests returned to River Run

Lodge for dinner and dancing. Personalized tambourines were the entry ticket to the candle-lit lodge where the tenpiece band was already bringing down the house. The couple made their first entrance to “Last One I Love,” the song Dave played (far too early) during their relationship. After hours of dining, dancing, espresso martinis, late night bites, and cigars, Kate and Dave departed to a saxophone serenade of “Fly Me to the Moon.” As they kissed in front of a vintage Bentley, a cold-spark display of fireworks created the final backdrop of the unforgettable event. The Wood River Trails Bike Path starts in Bellevue and ends just north of Ketchum. This smooth, paved path has scenery all the way and is open to foot traffic, bikes, dogs and skates. In the winter season it is groomed for cross-country skiing. Sorry, no motorized vehicles. Take this trail and leave the car behind!

IMMUNITY CAN BE CHALLENGING IN OUR COLD WINTER MONTHS.
Less sunlight reduces vitamin D production, which plays a role in immune defense. Colder temperatures, and more time spent indoors can weaken our defenses in several ways. We are all jammed in together allowing more contact increasing the likelihood of spreading germs. Indoor heating also dries out the protective mucous membrane in the nose and throat, making it easier for viruses to take hold. And on top of all that we get stressed and fatigued from our intense holiday seasons. Which around here starts at Halloween and doesn’t end until the closing of Baldy in April.
Winter doesn’t have to be a season of constant colds and fatigue. There are a few intentional ways we can support our bodies and minds to provide immunity and resilience. By combining nourishing foods, restorative rest, regular movement and mindful self-care, we give our bodies the tools to defend and thrive.
NOURISH WITH SEASONAL NUTRIENT-RICH FOODS j 4 f 1 2
• Citrus fruits – rich in vitamin C
• Leafy greens, squashes, and root vegetables – supply antioxidants and minerals.
• Garlic, onions, ginger and turmeric – natural anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.
• Fermented foods – like sauerkraut, kimchi and kefir – promote gut health, which is directly linked to immune strength.
• Grass fed animals – contains fat soluble vitamins, D3 and K2, which is linked to good thyroid health and bone remodeling.
Indoor heating dehydrates us. Use humidifiers or other systems to keep indoor RH relative humidity between 40-60%, ventilate rooms when possible and avoid overly dry heat.
Drinking warm broths, herbal teas and drinking clean water throughout the day helps keep mucous membranes moist and better able to trap pathogens. 80% of flu and colds began in our rhino passage.
Studies modeling aerosol and droplet spread show that viruses (especially enveloped ones such as influenza and coronaviruses) survive longer in dry air; virus-laden droplets evaporate, remain airborne longer and may travel farther.
Simple measures like frequent handwashing, avoiding touching your face, and regularly cleaning hightouch surfaces can drastically reduce exposure to pathogens.
Using essential oils like Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Pine and peppermint (because it smells good) are extremely effective in keeping pathogens from entering the rhino passages. At NourishMe we also wipe our surfaces with essential oils in the winter.
SUPPORT WITH VITAMIN D, ZINC, AND VITAMIN C
Zinc: Deficiency impairs phagocytosis, NK cell activity, antibody production. Trials with adequate
zinc intake are associated with shorter duration of colds or respiratory infections.
Vitamin C during infections or stress is depleted. Supplementation improves several immune parameters; natural killer (NK) cell activity, lymphocyte proliferation, chemotaxis, (immune cell movement) and reduces the severity/duration of respiratory infections.
It’s not only physical habits that matter – mental and emotional wellbeing are key to winter resilience. Studies show that people with strong social connections and a positive outlook recover faster from illness. Connection with loved ones, enjoying creative activities, or even practicing gratitude can give your immune system an added edge.

Chronic stress elevates cortisol and other stress hormones, which can suppress immune responses, shift immune profiles toward inflammatory states, and reduce capacity to respond to infection.
Practice stress management – you don’t need to be a ski racer to enjoy the health benefits of being outdoors. Simply spending quiet time outdoors can restore balance.
Exercise increases circulation, reduces stress. And strengthens immunity. Being outdoors is part of our culture in the Wood River Valley. It is easy to beg, borrow or steal snow equipment from friends and relatives to get outside in all conditions.
Climbing to the top of a snowy ridge, looking at the final view of the world covered in stillness can be stress reducing and spirituality defining. S
