The Altrincham Garrick YOUR Local Playhouse The Altrincham Garrick is your local Playhouse, self-funded, and one of the premier entertainment facilities in South Manchester.

Our 401 seater auditorium is comfortable, with excellent leg room, and, wherever seated, you are assured a view equivalent to the highest priced stalls of larger traditional city centre theatres.

Our small theatre car park, offers FREE PARKING and you are sure of a warm welcome from all of our volunteers and staff in our Box Ofce, Foyer and the Bar. We have all our own in-house facilities... a professional workshop creating our own scenery, as well as lighting, sound, props and wardrobe departments, with equipment the envy of many other theatres.

The Altrincham Garrick offers one of the best live performance venues in the area - not only on our Main Stage but also in our highly acclaimed smaller Lauriston STUDIO Theatre.

As well as hosting some great visiting productions we have our own season of drama/comedy/musical productions and throughout the season these productions have constantly received high praise from both local and Manchester critics - as well as being hugely popular with our audiences.

The Garrick attracts some of the best local performers from surrounding areas, as well as professional directors & creative talent.

Members who join the Garrick not only get season discounts for ALL our own productions, but many join to get involved on & off stage. Members of all ages & abilities have discovered a warm welcome as well as new challenges with many younger members nding the Garrick a springboard to future careers.

Booking Fees There is a £2.00 transaction fee for each individual payment made by telephone or online.

Disabled Facilities and Wheelchair Access We do require advanced booking for Wheelchair users and please let our Box Ofce know any special requirements when booking.

Wheelchair spaces are available in the Auditorium and there are toilets and a lift for disabled patrons.

The main auditorium can accommodate 4 wheelchairs and the Lauriston, 4 wheelchairs.

There are four disabled parking spaces, two to the left of the Playhouse entrance and two in front of the foyer. Please display permits at all times and only use these spaces if you have a current permit.

Garrick Playhouse Bar The Bar will be open from 6.45pm on performance nights, so please have a drink before the show and order your interval drinks to avoid the crush.

The Bar is also open after the show, usually until 11.00pm.

The Winter’s Tale by William Shakespeare from the Globe Theatre As we shiver in winter, come and be warmed by Shakespeare’s most surprising play. A seemingly random tale that ranges from brutal jealousy, through abandoned babies, wild scenes of peasant merrymaking, and nishing with what is probably the most theatrically bold and most extraordinary and certainly the most moving scene that Shakespeare ever wrote. The play also contains the famous, and challenging, stage direction ‘Exit, pursued by a bear’.

This production was lmed in the autumn of 2018 live at the Globe Theatre in London, and captures the unique, boisterous and involving atmosphere of that theatre.

The cast of familiar faces is led by Will Keen as Leontes, who was recently seen in Wolf Hall and The Crown. The production features music by Stephen Warbeck who composed the score to Shakespeare in Love.

From the same team that thrilled us in October with Swan Lake, comes a dance production of Cinderella set in a London ravaged by the Blitz.

A particular family is torn apart by the war, but among the devastation, the horror and the traumatised Forces there lurks an unearthly character in white.

Lez Brotherson’s breathtaking designs take us round various London landmarks, with many nods to such wartime lms as ‘Brief Encounter’ and includes a wondrous transformation scene. This is perhaps Matthew Bourne’s most lyrically magical and romantic piece, full of his trademark combination of sassy humour, drama, rich characters and heartbreaking emotion. The music is Prokoev’s haunting and lyrical score, with the ever present reminder of that fateful midnight. The company include Ashley Shaw, Andrew Monaghan, Alan Vincent, Michela Meazza and Liam Mower who we saw dance the tormented Prince in Swan Lake.

Those kinky boots have nally arrived. Based on the hit Miramax movie, and the long running Broadway and West End hit, this joyous musical celebrating differences and nding oneself, boasts astonishing credentials. The book is

by Harvey Fierstein, who wrote La Cage aux Folles and starred as Edna in Hairspay and was so memorable in Mrs Doubtre; the choreography is by Jerry Mitchell who also choreographed hairspray and many other shows, and with the music and lyrics by legendary Cyndi Lauper.

The musical, lmed last year at the Adelphi Theatre in London, stars Matt Henry and Killian Donnelly as the most unlikely friends thrown together in Northampton and nding joy thanks to dazzling scarlet six inch stilettos!

Sun 5 APRIL 7:00pm English National Ballet’s production of Akram Khan’s Giselle Running time 113 minutes.

English National Ballet have in their repertoire a gloriously rich and romantic production of Giselle, a traditional version if you will, but almost two years the company, in a co-production with our own Manchester international Festival and Sadler’s wells, decided to run a startlingly modern and hard hitting, production, choreographed by Akram Khan, with set and costumes by Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon designer Tim Yip and with Giselle danced

by Tamara Rojo, the director of ENB. This production was lmed lasted year, the rst production of ENB to be lmed for the cinema, in the Liverpool Empire Theatre.

This dramatic multi award winning production is dance at it’s most powerful and relevant. We are thrilled to be screening this ballet that widens the scope of dance.

Sun 26 APRIL 7:00pm The Merry Wives of Windsor by William Shakespeare Running time 180 minutes.

A few days after Shakespeare’s 456th birthday, we are back at the Globe with a very different play and in a somewhat frisky and giddy mood. Queen Elizabeth was so taken by the character of Falstaff in Henry IV that she suggested that she would like to see the Fat Knight in Love, and sure enough, here is Falstaff, outrageously chasing two ladies, at the same time, with the women suitably moved to revenge. After much door slamming, mistaken identities, cunning plotting, outrageous disguises, rural celebrations, tests of delity, and a humiliating come-uppance, Shakespeare seems to have laid the template for the great farcical British sit-com.

This fast pace of this play has always inspired composers with both Verdi and Weber writing operas based on this story. This particular production sets the shenanigans in the 1930’s full of lively dance and music and with glorious fashions.

Pearce Quigley plays Falstaff, and Sarah Finigan and Bryony Hannah play the not to be messed with Mistresses Page and Ford. The production is directed by Elle While.

Sun 31 MAY 7:00pm Matthew Bourne’s The Car Man Bourne takes the steaming story of Carmen and transposes it to a small town in America in the 1960’s. Thanks to the sweltering heat, there’s a frisson of sex and tension already in the air for the workers of a small garage diner – a claustrophobic setting familiar from many lm noir. The arrival of a brutal, handsome stranger drives everyone even further into an explosion of lust, violence, betrayal, greed and revenge. This is a night from which no-one emerges unscathed.

This is Bourne’s most erotic and shocking piece, aided by Bizet’s music hauntingly rearranged by Terry Davies, and once again beautifully designed by Lez Brotherson.

The cast includes Alan Vincent, Zizi Strallen, KateLyons, Dominic North and Christopher Treneld.
