T Built in Japan using traditional methods, this 17th century-style Japanese house was designed by architect Junzo Yoshimura in 1953. After being displayed at the New York Museum of Modern Art, Shofuso was moved permanently to Philadelphia. Inspired by the site’s gardens, artist Hiroshi Senju donated 20 murals in 2007 which now hang in Shofuso.

It’s a hot topic – pun intended – that is heating up the airwaves and internet more every day. As a result, there is powerful and emerging “green collar” workforce that includes numerous jobs and careers dedicated to sustainability and the improvement of our little corner of the universe.

Veggie Burgers INGREDIENTS 1 can

Chickpeas

1 tbl

Chili powder

1 cup

Frozen whole kernel corn

2 cloves Garlic, peeled

1

Large egg

6 tbl

Extra virgin olive oil, divided

3 tbl

Chopped cilantro

8

Whole grain hamburger buns

1 can

Black beans

2 cups

Panko breadcrumbs

DIRECTIONS Place breadcrumbs, beans, chickpeas, corn, egg, cilantro, sweet chili sauce, chili powder and garlic in food processor; cover.

Process until well combined, scraping down sides as needed.

Scoop about 1/3 cup bean mixture and use hands to form into a patty. Repeat with remaining mixture to make 8 patties total.

Heat 2 tablespoons oil in large, nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties, 2 to 3 at a time, for 3 minutes on each side or until browned. Add more oil with each batch.
