WHAT IS CBD? In 1950, architect Frank Redford designed this attraction as one of just seven motel courts with this unique design. These accommodations are styled after the teepees used by Indigenous peoples of the Great Plains. Despite the inspiration, Redford preferred the ring of “Wigwam Village” (another type of dwelling) to “Teepee Village,” and chose the former as the name of his creation. Today, guests can book a stay in one of 15 large “wigwam” lodgings featuring the modern conveniences of a full bathroom, cable TV, heat, and air conditioning.

CBD is short for cannabidiol, which is a chemical compound from the plant Cannabis sativa. Then came the unscripted reality TV era, which peaked in the early 1990s and again in the early 2000s (think “Real World,” “Survivor,” and “Big Brother.”) A bit of a cultural wasteland, really. Of course, the Bachelor is still with us.

In the last several years, with the dawn of streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and more fringe channels all vying for our eyeballs, the viewing options are vast and varied.

In fact, between 2011 and 2016 scripted TV shows increased by 71 percent. In 2018, there were 495 original scripted TV shows, compared to only 182 in 2002. It now feels like there’s almost too much content to keep up with (and, of course, not all of it is good). Still, having more choices as we remain increasingly at home is good news we can all use.
