MARY’S FOOD BANK (SMFB) • SMFB has been in business for 53 years. •S MFB is the largest food bank in Arizona and the 2nd largest food bank in the country. •S MFB covers more than 2/3rds of Arizona or 81,000 square miles (9 counties). •S MFB provides food to more than 600 nonprofit organizations and partner agencies throughout the state. •T hrough direct food sources and food drives, contracts lower rates to buy food. •T hey can stretch every $1 received to provide 7 meals to the community.

IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON ST. MARY’S FOOD BANK •R ecord # of 1st time new clients due to layoffs and high rate of unemployment. •S MFB is feeding 1200-1500 families/day in need of help (a substantial increase from normally 600-800/day). •P op up “Mobile Marketplaces” have increased from 40 locations/month to 70/month. •S ummer is here and kids are not in school. So, this is typically the busiest time of year for families needing help without school food programs. •L ess food donated from grocery stores and upcoming food drives cancelled. •R educed # of volunteers available to package food and deliver due to social distancing.
