YOUR LIFE
FLAVORFUL
Majestic figures of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, surrounded by the beauty of the Black Hills of South Dakota, tell the story of the birth, growth, development and preservation of this country. From the history of the first inhabitants to the diversity of America today, Mount Rushmore brings visitors face to face with the rich heritage we all share.
• The way the hot sun envelops your body in warmth and sometimes makes your stomach flip-flop in pleasure
The Best Laid Plans If you’re planning a remodel, consider your cooking style. If you are the sole cook, the traditional triangle (stove, sink, refrigerator) is functional. With more cooks in the kitchen, workstations such as vegetable prep, baking centers, and sauce/spice stations add functionality. Your dream kitchen might also contain a dedicated coffee bar, wine nook; even a woodburning pizza oven.
Here, we celebrate the season with all of the joys that are uniquely summer, along with little inspirations on relishing your own simple pleasures this time of year.
AMERICAN HISTORY – ALIVE IN STONE
like stained and sealed concrete or rustic limestone are gaining ground. Backsplashes get a lift with glass mosaics, bamboo, pounded copper and even cork. Flooring made of reclaimed wood, or natural stone are especially beautiful. Stainless steel continues to be popular as well as “hidden” appliances that blend in with the cabinetry
INGREDIENTS 4 oz 1/2 c 1 tsp 2 tbsp
Arugula Toasted walnuts Chopped garlic Grated parmesan
1/4 c 1/2 tsp 1 tsp
Olive oil Chili flakes Apple cider vinegar Salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS Chop down the arugula so it fits in a food processor. Add all ingredients except oil. Run the machine, and begin adding the oil. You may need more or less oil, so just adjust as needed. Season to taste. We recommend Tagliatelle or Pappardelle pasta noodles for this dish. Bring salt water to a boil and then add your noodles. Boil for 5-7 minutes for al dente. Remove pasta from water and into strainer. Combine pasta and pesto sauce and serve immediately and enjoy!
