More and more women are looking to get away from the bland big-box gyms that dot the fitness landscape for a more specialized and special workout experience tailored more to their tastes, time constraints, and physical needs. After all, exercise isn’t a one-size-fits-all experience. If you’re in search of a boutique fitness hot spot that is anything but your typical barewalls, lots-of-man-sweat gym, have we got some ideas for you!

Over a century and a half old, Renault Winery is a recognized New Jersey State Historical site and one of the oldest continuously operating wineries in the United States. Master Vintner Louis Nicholas Renault hailed from the ancient champagne house of the Duke of Montebello in Rheims, France, settling in Egg Harbor City and establishing Renault Winery in 1864.

Into cycling? Then you may already know or will soon hear about SoulCycle.

These cycling studios offer a friendly vibe that feels more like you’re getting together with some close friends to work out on the bike, motivate each other, and sweat to hit songs all with a celebrity-like instructor leading the way. (Did we mention the candlelight?) Classes fill up fast, only take 45 minutes, and promise to make you feel better and look better fast. There are lots of choreographed moves on the bike, cool instructors, and SoulCycle apparel available in each chain.

Renault Winery offers a gourmet restaurant, catering for banquets and weddings, and historic winery tours open year round. The Tuscany House offers a 50-room hotel with old world décor, and is home to conference facilities and two gourmet restaurants with European styling. 2004 saw the addition of The Vineyard Golf Course, a par 72, 18 hole championship layout measuring just over 7200 yards and groomed to perfection.

Barre studios are also popping up across the United States. For those who don’t know, the word barre comes from the ballet barre, which is used during class as a prop for stretching and strengthening. One chain, the Barre Code, bills itself as “the most efficient and results-driven women’s fitness program.”

Barre Code classes incorporate dance and cardio moves, strength training via isometric holds and small controlled movements, with stretching … all in a 50-minute workout. From the beginning, the owners of Renault Winery Resort & Golf aspired to construct a championship golf course unique to South Jersey, which would be complemented by their award winning restaurants, winery and the Tuscany Hotel. And while you can take yoga classes at many big-box gyms, smaller yoga studios cater to those who are new to the format or who wish to solely practice yoga. Places like YogaFit cater to women looking for fun music, a soothing environment with essential oils wafting through the air, and the feeling of joining a community. CorePower Yoga, another yoga hot spot, offers a modern, spa-like setting with changing rooms and discreet showers, as well as a boutique shopping experience for fashionable fitness apparel and accessories. The space is decidedly geared toward yoga with not a weight machine in sight. In other words, you won’t find muscle-heads checking out your downward dogs. All you need is a varied selection of adult coloring books, a set of beautiful colored pencils or gel pens, and some wine and finger foods and you’ve got the recipe for a fun night in.

If you haven’t colored since you were a kid, you may be wondering when exactly did coloring pages become a popular thing to do? Back in the 1880s, the McLoughlin brothers, early pioneers in children’s games and books, are thought to be the inventors of the coloring book, releasing The Little Folks’ Painting Book. Since then, coloring has always been a popular and inexpensive craft for children, until more recently when adult or

“grown up” coloring books have emerged as an artistic hobby. The book that is credited with kicking off the current rage is Joanna Basford’s Secret Garden: An Inky Treasure Hunt and Coloring Book, which has sold an astonishing 11 million copies. While coloring the scenes, novice artists search for tiny garden creatures hidden on each page. The current coloring fad is so popular there is even a National Coloring Book Day on August 2, and you can seek out coloring page fan groups to join on Facebook and in some local libraries.

Not only is coloring thought to be a fun activity to do with one’s family, but it’s thought to have health benefits, offering stressreduction and meditation opportunities to those who perhaps don’t often take time to simply clear their mind and focus on something purely artistic.

A few of our favorite coloring book selections include Fantastic Cities, with detailed aerial views of cities around the world, including New York, London, Paris, Istanbul, Tokyo, Melbourne, Rio, and Amsterdam; Butterflies and Flowers: Stress Relieving Patterns; for the Star Wars fan, Art of Coloring Star Wars: 100 Images to Inspire Creativity and Relaxation; and last but not least Harry Potter Magical Places & Characters Coloring Book. INGREDIENTS

INGREDIENTS

6-8 2c 1 gal ½ gal ½ c

Lobster bodies Brandy Whole milk Heavy cream Blended oil

DIRECTIONS Heat oil in heavy bottom stock pot. Add lobster bodies and cook until bright red. A nice fond should develop on the bottom of the pan, once it does deglaze it with Brandy.

Make sure brandy is added off of the heat to avoid it from catching on fire. Reduce brandy to au sec. Add in dairy and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and allow it to steep for 45 minutes. While milk is steeping, proceed to butternut squash.

6-8 Butternut squash,

peeled and seeded 2 c Brandy 3 Shallots, sliced thin ½ tbsp Ground nutmeg 2 tbsp Blended oil Salt and pepper to taste Lobster milk DIRECTIONS Cut peeled and seeded squash into large dice. Heat a heavy bottom sauce pot and add oil. Add shallots and sweat. Once soft, add in squash, and season.
