Brad Hunter, chief economist with Colorado-based HomeAdvisor Inc., said Phoenix has some advantages in 2017 compared to other markets.

So Hunter expects healthy gains in 2017.

The market ended 2016 with its best year for sales volume since 2006.

Sales of new and existing homes totaled 115,837 in 2016, according to RL BrownHousing Reports.

Existing home sales totaled 99,955 – up 7.9 percent from 2015 — and new home sales were up 32 percent from last year ending 2016 with 15,882 closing, according to RL Brown The run up in rental prices could propel more younger demographics to move towards home purchases.

When rental prices are starting to hit $1,600 and $1,700 per month, the economics of buying a house and the mortgage interest deduction makes more sense.

Lugo said the prospect of higher interest rates could encourage potential purchasers to move forward before mortgages get more expensive.

Ten years ago, there were roughly 50 craft distilleries in the United States. Today there are an estimated 1,315 and that number is expected to grow as distilleries continue to get support from retailers and wholesalers who have seen the success craft brewers have already achieved.

If support from consumers and retailers follow the success brewers have had, the potential for craft spirits growth is enormous. Craft spirits and creative cocktails now run the gamut from classic bourbon to sipping tequilas, from artisanal gin to ginger-infused vodka. So whet your whistle and get in the spirit!
