desert chorale on the road A look into the tour to Salt Lake City An all-star line-up of 24 singers began rehearsing in Santa Fe on February 18th joined by special guests - two Swedish choral conductors Lars Fredén and Mats Bertilsson. The Chorale hosted these conductors as part of an international conducting exchange sponsored by the American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA). Our Music Director Josh Habermann will travel to Sweden as part of the exchange next September. The tour began with a Santa Fe performance at Cristo Rey Church in front of our hometown fans. Then the Chorale members and entourage traveled by bus to Denver. Two well-attended concerts of both old and new Colorado fans were made possible by our

hosts, former singers MB and Tim Kruger, respectively representing Metropolitan State College of Denver and St. Martin’s Chamber Choir. While in Denver, Josh and our Swedish guests participated in workshops with both college students and a visit to two local high schools. After the wonderful joint performance by St. Martin’s and the Desert Chorale, a Denver critic said of the Chorale “Under music director Joshua Habermann, the Desert Chorale gave a truly inspired performance . . . Whatever the mystery was for each audience member, the music and experience of this evening certainly danced it.” Finally we all flew Salt Lake for two concerts in Salt

Lake City as part of the ACDA national convention. We made a huge impact! The Friday 11am concert was packed with people standing in the back all the way to the wall. By the afternoon concert word had spread, and the Cathedral of Madeleine was again overflowing, and people were sitting on the floor and in the aisles. After the concert the applause went on and on, with shouting and cheers that required us to come back out for bow after bow. For the rest of the conference, and subsequently, people have expressed their appreciation and admiration with such words “Soul stirring, spiritual and inspirational” and “Absolutely phenomenal!”

“the most incredible musical experience I’ve had IN my entire life.” Thank you again to all our patrons who supported the phenomenal effort to make the February presentation of Dancing the Mystery on Tour a success!
