On October 6th, 2024, little more than one year after Michael Arce first picked up a bowling ball competitively, and almost exactly one year removed from his first bowling tournament ever, he brought home the champion’s trophy from the inaugural TAT Fall Classic along with $5,410 in prize winnings. The 37-year-old from Peoria, having just moved up to the 215 & Under division in this event, cruised through the final match with the composure of a seasoned veteran, besting Cesar Padilla, Percy Ordoñez, and Mike Barcus for the top prize in a competitive match.

In TAT Desert Southwest’s first $5,000 regional in the Valley since March, 90 bowlers came to Let It Roll Bowl in Phoenix over the two-day event, rolling 158 main event entries along with 91 entries in the VIP side tournament. TAT Desert Southwest paid out more than $26,000 in cash and prizes over the weekend. The competition was held on a 37-foot customdesigned oil pattern with a 3.8:1

ratio and 25.45ml of oil. The TAT regional tournament paid out at a 1-in-6 ratio per division.

Just like the TAT national events, this TAT regional included a VIP side tournament as part of the entry fee, with two squads on Saturday and one on Sunday morning. VIP squads are always bowled on a fresh oil condition, and the tournament is a 2-game beat-the-board event where only the highest score (with handicap) counts and all divisions are combined. Bowlers use VIP squads as a low-risk way to test out the lane pattern on a fresh condition while still having a chance to win some money if they should toss a high game, while also getting a feel for how they want to play the lanes in the main event. Zach Van Dusen of Maricopa grabbed the victory and $500 for his 270 score (267+12). Low-to-cash in the VIP tournament was 241 and paid $30.

The 26 bowlers advancing to the main event finals on Sunday were guaranteed at least $300

Tucson Metro USBC Taking Unique Approach with Upcoming Tournaments

On the weekends of November 9-10, 16-17 and 23-24, Tucson Metro USBC are conducting the 62nd Annual Tucson Metro USBC Senior Open Championships and the 45th Annual Tucson Metro USBC Senior Women’s Championships at Cactus Bowl concurrently.

Tucson Metro USBC are able to conduct both tournaments at the dates listed above and the same squad times respectively. This approach gives bowlers more dates to choose from and also helps Tucson Metro USBC in its effort to conduct the tournaments. Tucson Metro USBC will also be conducting the Open Championships as well as the Women’s Championships concurrently too.

The Senior Open and Senior Women’s Championships are two separate tournaments with separate entry fees as well as their own prize funds. This will also be the case for the Open and Women’s Championship Tournaments.

With the situation with Fiesta Lanes, Tucson Metro USBC can help bowlers who have not sanctioned for the 24-25 season get sanctioned.

Bowlers that bowl at Fiesta Lanes, who aren't able to sanction currently for this season, can assistance from Tucson Metro USBC to become sanctioned. When they fill there entry form, they can add

September 29th the AHT SFT event was held at Bowlero Gilbert. There were 73 tot’s entries (58 qualifying and 15 parlays) paying out over $4,000 in main and side event prizefunds! Congratulations to Kyle Ponzo on winning his fourth AHT SFT title and $750.00! Also congrats to Payton Steele on 2nd place for $400.00 and congrats to Shaun Newman on 3rd place for $250.00!

and bowled single-game eliminator matches against one to four other bowlers within their respective divisions, narrowing down the field until only one bowler remained in each division. Each division winner was guaranteed a minimum of $1,000 and a shot at the $5,000 first prize in the Grand Final match between all of the division winners.

In the 50+ Senior Handicap Division, Mike Barcus, 55, of Peoria made the cut with a 623 qualifying score (614+9) and reached the championship title match with a 204 (201+3), defeating Carlos Vejar of Tolleson with 203 (191+12) and Rick Darnell of Sun City with 158 (149+9).

The winner of the 189 & Under Handicap Division was Percy Ordoñez, 43, of Avondale, who qualified for the finals with a 691 handicap series (559+132) and advanced to the title match with a 204 (160+44) over Sam Em of Auburn, WA with 169 (134+35).

To reach the title match from the Scratch Division, Cesar Padilla, 19, of Phoenix made the cut with a 718 qualifying score and advanced to the title match with a blistering 277, defeating Kevin Jenkins of Anthem with 246.

Eventual champion Arce rolled a 670 (598+72) qualifying score and advanced to the championship with 236 (212+24) to defeat Justin Golden of Goodyear with 168 (162+6).

Each of the four division winners in the main event, guaranteed a minimum $1,000 payday, faced off in a single-game match with handicap for the title and additional prize money. Although the match was close most of the way, by the time Arce stepped up in the 10th frame, he simply needed to keep the ball on the lane to secure the victory.

Because he was entered into the Progressive Pot, he not only won an automatic $1,000 bonus to achieve the $5,000 top prize, but he had a chance to win up to 70% of the remaining pot by throwing three strikes in a row across three lanes after his victory. He ultimately struck twice to claim 20% of the remaining pot, giving him a grand total of $5,410 for his victory. The remainder of the Progressive Pot carries over to the next TAT Desert Southwest regional tournament in January, 2025.

Arce stated that his strategy was to commit to throwing urethane and to be patient and wait for the pattern to come to him, based on his prior experience at that bowling center. Game 3 of qualifying in particular made him certain he had the right approach for the Finals when he tossed a 246 scratch game after only 159, 193 in his first two, even though he didn’t make any moves on the lane.

“Even in my first qualifying

(continued from page 1)

match … I only had one strike and I kept leaving a corner pin, whether it was a seven pin or a ten pin. (But) I didn’t freak out. I didn’t jump and move and change equipment. I was just waiting for the shot to come around for urethane. Because Finals was on the fresh and just like it was on Saturday, I was leaving a ton of corner pins through round two, and then in round three, that shot in that spot really came around and that’s where the strikes started coming in.”

Arce threw the combination of a Storm Pitch Black and Storm IQ Tour 78/U the entire event and committed to varying his speed to get the ball reaction he wanted instead of moving around on the lane, and ultimately the strikes started to come after the pattern had some traffic on it.

“So I just trusted it. I just knew that I needed to stick to the plan and not make any rash decisions, ball change, or lane position. It was either faster or slower; that’s all I needed to focus on. Let’s throw it faster or throw it a little bit slower based on what it gave me.”

Especially remarkable for a bowler with only a year of competition under his belt, Arce has accumulated a wealth of knowledge about the game already and has effectively taken that knowledge and combined it with relentless work on the practice lanes to bring him his first - and well-deservedtournament victory!

He would like to especially thank Kyle King and Keith Fung for recognizing his competitiveness and giving him so many pointers toward helping him refine his game. With Arce practicing at Bowlero Glendale nearly every day of the week, often throwing more than a dozen games, King and Fung couldn’t help but notice the tremendous work he was putting in, and Arce thanks them greatly for helping him become the bowler he is today.

Arce would also like to thank TAT Desert Southwest and their staff for putting on the event, as well as his fiancée, Michelle, for having his back and giving him so much support, including traveling with him to many events and talking him through his progressions during tournaments.

TAT Desert Southwest would like to thank tournament sponsors Roto-Grip, Coolwick, TAT Las Vegas, B3 Performance, Tenpin Toolkit, and Chuck’s Painting for all their support, including many generous prize giveaways. TAT also thanks Let It Roll Bowl owner Stacy Anderson and his entire terrific staff for their great support of this event.

The next TAT Desert Southwest event is TATurday II, another single-day tournament being held at AMF McRay Plaza Lanes in Chandler on November 9th. Flyers

and entry forms for all TAT Desert Southwest events are available online at tatbowl.com/dsw. New and exciting plans are rapidly forming for 2025!

JBT Results; Cerbat Lanes; September

14, 2024

Gavin Fernandez and Jayden Macias picked up JT titles in exciting dual conference action at Kingan's Cerbat Lanes.

2024 AZ Invitational champion Aliyas Sargento began the scratch division stepladder finals with a 228-205 win over first-time scratch finalist Jacob Vasquez. Sargento then got past Tyler Castronova to reach the title game. Top seed Gavin Fernandez as impressive all day long, and maintained his composure in a 207182 win, good for the 14 year old's 4th career JBT title and a continued hot start to the new season!

Cameron Coleman began the handicap stepladder with the narrowest of victories, 221-220 over newcomer Devon Gee. Another newcomer, Thomas Donaldson, then stopped Coleman to reach the title match. Top seed Jayden Macias is a little guy that the tour already knows not to take lightly, and he and Donaldson both bowled great in the final. Needing a double in the tenth, Jayden calmly stepped up and got the two strikes, good for a 231-227 win and his second career JBT title.

Ella Phelps needed overtime to beat Kendall Bollea 10-9 after a 160 tie to win the day's Girls Scratch title, while Gavin doubled his fun with a win over Vasquez for the U17 win. Huge thanks to the team at Cerbat for a great job hosting our Tour, everyone for coming, and all our amazing sponsors who added to the over $2,800 awarded to bowlers of all ages and skill levels. Want in on all the fun? Just check out our schedule and come on down!

To start off, SCBA would like to congratulate our member, Carol Harrington (see photo above) for taking first place in SCBA’s Pins Over Average tournament in September leading the field with a score of 70 pins over her average. Great scores followed Carol with Jesse Falls in second at 60 over, Richard Prince in third with 42 over and Don Fosnot in fourth with 37 over. The entering averages for this tournament ranged from 131 to 217 so this was a nice format for bowlers of all averages. Thanks to all who entered September SCBA honor roll members include William Graham (826 series) and Curtis Aemisegger (300 game). The ladies bowled great as well with 700

series by Lora Summers-Franklin (747), Shelley Zarick (714) and Alison Kozak (702).

Members with 75 pins over average for September include Todd Traina, Mike Beale, Sunny Emerson, Brian Sweiven, Earle Heinselman, Tino Fassio, Patricia Folden, Martha Reed, Sam Tagliarini, Doug Brown, and Bob Haderlie. Tino Fassio will also receive an award for 150 over average series. Great bowling to all our members!

The SCBA 2024/2025 membership drive is underway, and through early October, membership is currently at 894 and growing. Membership applications are located at the bowling counters at both Bell and Lakeview Lanes. Membership is open to all regular league bowlers at Bell and Lakeview Lanes over 50 years of age and the cost for this season is $2.00 per person. If you have not joined yet, please do so soon so you do not miss out on any honor awards.

SCBA’s first annual Halloween Bowling Party, which will be on Saturday, October 26th at Lakeview Lanes and is open to anyone over 21 years has sold out but we are taking standby reservations. Please check at the bowling counter at Lakeview for additional information.

Sun City Bowling Association’s annual board meeting will be held at Bell Center Social Hall 1 on October 19, 2024, at 9:00 am, and is open to all SCBA members. We will be giving away goodies donated by our sponsors and will be raffling off a bowling ball. Please join us for a chance to win the ball and enjoy coffee and donuts! Come out and voice your thoughts and ideas. We look forward to sharing with you what SCBA has in store for our members for the 2024/2025 season.

SCBA’s next tournament is scheduled for December 7th and

will be no tap format. Flyers will be out at both Lakeview and Bell by the end of October. If interested in finding out more about Sun City Bowling Association, SCBA Hall of Fame, our tournament schedule, senior scratch trio league or our member awards program, please feel free to reach out to SCBA President, Lynda Bettini at 480-225-3332.

SCBA membership is open to all Sun City regular bowling league members ages fifty or over. Certain age exceptions apply for Sun City residents.

Sun City Bowling Association

Sun City Bowling Association (SCBA) was formed in May 1986, to promote continued interest in the sport of bowling and to encourage fellowship among bowling participants.

SCBA administers and oversees numerous noteworthy bowling activities and tournaments for Sun City bowlers. The SCBC provides special recognition for outstanding scores bowled in regularly scheduled league fames. Furthermore, the association participates in the instruction of bowling fundamentals and sponsors a hidden number contest with its membership.

SCBA Membership

SCBA membership is open to all Sun City AZ residents and guest bowlers who bowl at either Bell or Lakeview Lanes, with an annual fee of $2.00 for the fiscal year running August 1 through July 31. Applications are on the bulletin boards of both bowling centers, and may be submitted to either the front desks at the lanes or directly to any association board member anytime throughout the year. A membership drive is also held each fall in which all bowling leagues are approached requesting that bowlers join the Sun City Bowling Association. There is an annual membership meeting with a speaker, refreshments and door prizes held each October.

2025 PWBA National Tour Schedule Announced

ARLINGTON, Texas – The relaunched Professional Women’s Bowling Association Tour will be turning 10 years old in 2025 and visit locations all over the country throughout the 2025 PWBA Tour season.

Twelve events from May to August are on the schedule for 2025, all at centers with a successful track record of hosting the sport’s highest level of competition, including one that hasn’t hosted an event since the relaunch in 2015.

The tour season starts in Topeka, Kansas, with the PWBA Topeka Open at West Ridge Lanes from May 8-10. The PWBA is visiting the city for the first time since the 2015 season, which was won by Liz Kuhlkin of Schenectady, New York, over Danielle McEwan of Stony Point, New York, 241-203.

After Topeka, the tour stops in Las Vegas for the season’s first major, as the United States Bowling Congress Queens will be at Suncoast Bowling Center in Las Vegas inside Suncoast Hotel and Casino from May 14-20.

Suncoast hosted the 2024 USBC Masters and will host its second major event in as many years with the Queens in 2025.

The next stop will be Parma Heights, Ohio, for the PWBA Classic Series – Cleveland at Yorktown Lanes, where three titles will be up for grabs from May 27–June 2.

Yorktown Lanes previously hosted PWBA stops in 2019, 2021 and 2023. In 2023, Jordan Richard of Tipton, Michigan, won the PWBA Bowlers Journal Cleveland Open for her third title of that season. That title helped her secure 2023 PWBA Player of the Year honors.

Once the Classic Series is over, the fourth stop will be in Waterloo, Iowa, at Cadillac Xtreme Bowling Center, which will host its second stop in three seasons courtesy of the PWBA Waterloo Open (June 5-7). Cadillac XBC played host to PWBA Tour Championship week in 2023, culminating in Colombia’s Maria José Rodriguez taking home the PWBA Tour Championship trophy.

The 2025 season’s second major will take place June 10-17 as the U.S. Women’s Open will be in Lincoln, Nebraska, at Sun Valley Lanes. Sun Valley Lanes last hosted a PWBA event in 2021 with the PWBA Lincoln Open, which was won by Liz Johnson of Niagara Falls, New York, who shot just the fifth championship round 300 game in PWBA history on her way to victory.

The center is familiar with hosting major and PWBA events, as the 2020 U.S. Open was held at Sun Valley Lanes, while the PWBA has visited the center five times since the relaunch (2015-2017, 2019 and 2021).

The tour will take a small break before heading to Green Bay, Wisconsin, for the PWBA Green Bay Open from July 9-13 at The Ash-

waubenon Bowling Alley. This will mark back-to-back years for the center to host the tour as it also is the site of the 2024 USBC Queens.

July 24-27 will see the annual Professional Bowlers Association/ PWBA Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles in Houston at Copperfield Bowl. It will be the 25th anniversary of the event and will count as a title for the respective tours.

The 2025 PWBA Tour season will close in Rochester, New York, at ABC Gates Bowl with PWBA Tour Championship week. ABC Gates Bowl previously held the 2023 U.S. Women’s Open, which Bryanna Coté of Tucson, Arizona, won for her first career major.

PWBA Tour Championship Week will take place Aug. 5-12 and feature three tournaments in a seven-day span similar to the Classic Series. The first two will be standalone events, and the third will be the PWBA Tour Championship, the final major of the 2025 season.

To qualify for the Tour Championship, a player must be in good standing with the PWBA and have won a National Tour title during the 2025 season and the remainder of the field will be filled from the 2025 PWBA season points list through the most recent tournament preceding the Tour Championship.

BowlTV will once again provide exclusive, live coverage of all qualifying and match play rounds for each PWBA event in 2025.

BowlTV and national TV coverage of the finals of each 2025 event will be announced at a later date.

What Do Dick Clark, American Bandstand and Shelby, Ohio All Have In Common?

“The Golden Age of Bowling in the United States took place in the 1950’s and 60’s, and the epicenter of all that fun was Shelby, Ohio,” writes Timothy Brian McKee at richlandcountyhistory.com. “That was where AMF had its Bowling Division factory, and it was their job to produce every sort of innovative new aspect of the sport that eventually came to be the standard bowling experience across the nation.”

Although I only visited the Shelby factory a couple of times, as well as the nearby Westerville plant, I became forever attached to some of the workers when they asked me to join their team and compete in the annual USBC tournament. As I’ve said before, AMF paid for everything, so how could I say no? We bowled on six different occasions during the 1980’s in Louisville, Memphis, Niagara Falls (chicken wings!), Reno, Tulsa and Las Vegas.

“The number of bowling alleys in the USA went from 6,000 in 1955 to 11,000 by 1963, and during this same period the number of league members rose from just under 3 million to over 7 million,” continues McKee. “Without question, this explosion of popularity can be attributed to one single factor: the automatic pinsetter.”

Before we go any further, I must make mention of some basic terminology. While working at AMF for many years, I became profoundly aware that Brunswick built pinsetters, while AMF built pinspotters. I’m not completely sure if Brunswick had a patent on the word pinsetter, or if AMF was just making a marketing difference by calling them pinspotters, but it was a difference that was pounded into the nomenclature of every AMF employee.

Prior to the AMF pinspotter introduction across the street from the annual USBC tournament at Buffalo in 1946, every bowling center required a staff of pin boys to manually reset the pins that were knocked down. It was a tremendous problem trying to fill those pin boy positions, so the pinspotter became the impetus for the rapid expansion in bowling centers and league bowlers.

A couple of instances that I can remember during my days at AMF involving the recruiting of pin boys were best exemplified by Strike ’n Spare Lanes in Illinois and State Fair Recreation in Michigan. Both had unique ways of recruiting pin

boys to keep the lanes in operation. At Strike ’n Spare the owners built a room below the lanes complete with showers and individual bed spaces, like a barracks. State Fair Recreation in the suburbs of Detroit went a step further, offering a snack shop with complementary meals for the pin boys during their shift.

State Fair had a unique layout, as described to me by longtime friend and co-worker Ted Rebain, who’s father was the manager of the 70 lane center. Instead of having the concourse in the middle of the split house (with lanes on either side), the machines were in the middle, with a concourse on either side. Rebain often told me how this provided efficiency in terms of having the pin boys bounce back and forth between the two sides. It also provided an area for the pin boys own snack bar and rest area between the lanes.

It took awhile for the automatic pinspotter to catch on. “By 1953 the Shelby factory opened with a staff of 200 employees, turning out 200 machines per month. Within a year there were 500 employees, and by the time Shelby had established itself as the most important bowling hub of the nation, there were 950 employed,” writes McKee.

But what does any of this have to do with Dick Clark and American Bandstand, you might be asking? In 1959, the marketing geniuses at AMF hired television star Dick Clark to put a popular face on bowling by becoming their spokesman. I’m sure that John Mazey, Al Spanjer and Jack Graziano must have been a part of the free booklet called “Bowling Fun with Dick

(a CBS affiliate) had their own version of American Bandstand called “Dance Party.” The show aired after school on weekdays and featured local teenagers from a different high school everyday. Although I was only about ten at the time, I still recall my older sister Diane being a participant with her boyfriend at the time, Ken Norton. (No, not the boxer!)

The Dick Clark connection with AMF must have had a lot to do with the popularity of bowling in those years. Again, I can recall my sister going to the bowling lanes almost every Friday night with her date, or with friends. In a town with only 2,695 residents, it was about the only thing to do that was parent approved!

Clark.” It was a giveaway at all bowling centers that installed the automatic pinspotter. Clark also advertised AMF products during his American Bandstand program on ABC-TV.

2024-2025 MPUSBC TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

USBC to Make Adjustments to Open Championships Starting in 2026

ARLINGTON, Texas – The United States Bowling Congress Open Championships has shown continued growth in participation, and the 2025 event in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is trending toward posting the largest team count at the tournament since 2012.

This growth stems from continually evaluating tournament data and reviewing participant feedback, going back to the addition of a third division in 2017. External working groups also have provided valuable feedback and recommendations to continue to build for the future of the tournament.

This process has helped identify some areas to improve at the USBC Open Championships, and several adjustments to the tournament structure will be introduced at the 2026 event in Reno, Nevada. Those key changes include:

An adjustment to the average ranges for each of the tournament’s three divisions.

An increase in the entry fee, which goes solely to the prize fund.

An adjustment to the rules for team/doubles composition impacting past national team members, collegiate athletes and professional bowlers age 60 and older.

Along with the adjustments at the Open Championships, the USBC Women’s Championships will give competitors an extra opportunity to claim a coveted gemstone trophy with the addition of Team All-Events at the 2025 event in Las Vegas.

The new average ranges at the Open Championships are based on a bowler’s Championships Average (based on the most recent 27 games at the tournament over a specific time frame) or league/composite average

(highest from the previous three seasons based on 21 or more games) converted down to a Sport average.

The Championships Average is listed first below, followed with a comparison to a bowler’s average on a typical league condition. To view the conversion chart for Sport, Challenge and Standard averages, click here.

At the 2026 Open Championships, the average-based divisions will be:

Classified – 160 and below (185 and below on a typical league condition)

Standard – 161-181 (186-210 on a typical league condition)

Regular – 182 and above (211 and above on a typical league condition)

The changes to the price structure at the Open Championships will include a $10 increase to the entry fee for each event (team, doubles and singles) and $5 increase for all-events (optional entry). Each of those increases will go completely to the tournament’s prize fund, with the amount for tournament expenses staying the same as in the current structure.

A recent goal for USBC has been to increase the amount going into the prize fund at the Open Championships, and this adjustment in 2026

Saturday, November 9th @ 1:00 pm

@Bowlero Kyrene 6225 W. Chandler Blvd, Chandler

(62.5% to the prize fund and 37.5% to expenses) will improve the prize fund-to-expense ratio by more than 5% compared to the current structure (57.1%/42.9%) and nearly 10% compared to 2012 (53.4%/46.6%). This also will allow for higher payouts on average for cashing spots.

Team, doubles and singles will each cost $80 to enter, and all-events will be $20. Along with a $5 processing fee for each participant, the overall cost will be $265 per bowler.

In 2024, the prize fund for the Open Championships eclipsed $7.3 million with 11,012 teams. With the additional fees going to the prize fund in 2026, a similar team count would produce a prize fund of more than $9.2 million.

The rules in place for team and doubles composition at the Open Championships will have a new look in 2026 with an update to the designations for those who have represented their country, collegiate bowlers and professionals age 60 and older (Rule No. 21).

For past adult national team members, a bowler no longer will fall under the designation of Rule No. 21 once they have been out of the program

for 10 consecutive years. Those who represented their country as part of a junior team will have no restrictions starting in 2026.

Collegiate bowlers will not fall under this designation in 2026 and will be encouraged to compete as a full team or doubles pairing. There still will be limitations for competing with professionals, adult national team members and past national tour titlists, however.

Bowlers age 60 and older will be free of any designation under Rule No. 21 in 2026, regardless if they have applied for or hold membership in a professional bowling organization.

The addition of Team All-Events at the Women’s Championships in 2025 will recognize the top overall performance by a four-player team over the course of 36 combined games of team, doubles and singles competition during the event.

Similar to the Open Championships, Team All-Events will not be contested by division. All teams entered will have the opportunity to compete for the title without paying any additional entry fees. There will not be a prize fund for Team All-Events.

The new category at the Women’s Championships was added based on feedback from participant surveys. The USBC Hall of Fame Committee also pushed for the inclusion of Team All-Events to mirror the Open Championships and recognize additional champions at the event.

Gianna Brandolino Wins 2024 PBA LBC National Championships Clash

September 24, 2024 - Teenage star outlasts the pros to win second annual event and $60,000 scholarship

Gianna Brandolino will henceforth be known by one name: The Dutchess.

The 17-year-old Illinois native won the 2024 PBA LBC National Championship Clash, featuring the finalists from the 2024 PBA LBC National Championships.

In the one-ball, roll-off eliminator format taped at Portland, Maine’s Bayside Bowl, Brandolino outlasted a dozen competitors to win the coveted Duke trophy and the $60,000 top prize. The high school senior and Jacksonville State University commit will accept the winnings as a SMART scholarship.

“As a PBA Hall of Famer and everything, (Norm Duke) is a great representation of the sport of bowling. To have his trophy, it’s just crazy,” Brandolino said.

Gianna Brandolino wins the 2024 PBA LBC National Championships Clash after a stunning final round against Kris Prather

The 17-year-old finished as the runner-up in the PBA Junior Girls National Championship earlier this year and could have competed in the Girls Jr. Handicap division of the PBA LBC National Championships.

Instead, Brandolino opted to compete in the Women’s Classic division against PWBA Tour stars like Liz Johnson, Danielle McEwan, Verity Crawley, Stephanie Zavala and co.

“It would be more beneficial to learn and grow when going against the women instead of the girls, so I decided to just throw myself out there, do what I do and hope for the best,” she said after taking the division lead in June.

While Johnson went on to surpass Brandolino’s 1,396 six-game score, Brandolino still clinched a berth in the Clash as the secondhighest qualifier.

“I could have bowled in the junior division, but I wanted to bowl on my own without handicap and show that I can go up against all the divisions. Proving that I can beat even the PBA pros is crazy,” she said.

If there was one pro who everso-slightly intimidated the teenager, it was the one she faced in the final round: Kris Prather, a six-time titleist and two-time major champion on the PBA Tour.

“It came down to me and him and I was like Uh oh,” she said. “I knew I could do it, but I might need a little help. And he gave me that little bit of help.”

Prather, who knocked over just seven pins on his shot in the final round, admitted he felt the same way about facing Brandolino.

“Her calmness made me a little nervous,” Prather said. “Obviously

she feels no pressure. She has tons of experience for her age — I don’t know how many times she’s already bowled on TV and she’s been on Junior Team USA — but I was like, ‘Man, this girl is not going away. This is wild.’”

“I hate to say it for the ladies out there, but if this is where she gets that huge confidence boost, I'm really sorry for you all,” Prather added.

In the Clash, the teenager proved wise beyond her years.

Before the event, Brandolino said she practiced bowling one shot in 30-minute intervals to prepare herself for the show’s unique format. During the show, she took notes between shots to help stay ahead of transition.

“You're sitting there for 20ish minutes and your adrenaline is high, so you're going to forget things,” Brandolino said. “I wrote down where I was standing each time and if I thought I needed to make a move or not. I'd look at it before I bowled, and then I'd write down what I thought for the next time on that lane only since lanes are so different.”

Brandolino didn’t allow the blaring music to distract her; in fact, she harnessed its energy to power herself forward.

In total, she struck on eight of her 12 shots, including eight of nine between Rounds 2-10, and knocked over at least nine pins on every shot after Round 1.

In the moments after her win, she said the crowd at Bayside Bowl was the coolest part of her entire experience.

“It doesn't matter that they've never seen me before, they still treated me like I'm one of their own,” she said.

Prather earned $10,000 for his second-place finish, followed by David “Boog” Krol in third place.

After finishing third in last year’s event, Lennie Boresch Jr. brought home an inspirational fourth-place finish this year.

The 62-year-old PBA Hall of Famer has battled small cell carcinoma and kidney failure over the past year, finishing his third round of chemotherapy just a week before the Clash’s Sept. 15 taping.

Boresch struck on eight of his

first nine shots and eight of 11 attempts overall. He was eliminated after leaving a pocket 7-10 in the Round 10 roll-off against Boog Krol.

Bobby Kunimura, Graham Fach, Chloe Hickland, Mark Blaha, Billy Froberg and Garrett 12-yearold Beyer each finished in the top 10. Brianna Merner, Liz Johnson and Kahlen Ransen rounded out the Clash field.
