Blueflint The Assembly Rooms Great Hall will be closed from the beginning of June until the end of September whilst essential maintenance work is carried out. The Darwin Suite and Guildhall Theatre are open as usual.

When The Moon Is Full

After a fantastic Proclaimers tour support, Blueflint intertwine banjos, fiddle, doublebass, drums and voices in beautifullycrafted songs.

Explore myths and legends through songs, tunes and stories, inspired by the writings of the nineteenth century folklorist, hymn writer and novelist Sabine Baring-Gould.

Relive the magic of the silver screen by visiting some of MGM’s famous movies, with a tour that will take you from the fantasy world of Oz, to the arrival of the talking picture and beyond, including a tribute to the films of James Bond.

Now in its 7th year, Derby Folk Festival is going from strength to strength, with concerts in the Great Hall and Darwin, Folk Club events in the foyers, dance displays, workshops, real ale and craft stalls and events that will spill out onto the Market Place. A host of top names from the British folk scene are on the bill, including the winners of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2013 ‘Best Group’ award, Lau, The Mighty Doonans and Dervish. Derby Jazz

Stan Tracey’s Jazz Suite: Under Milk Wood

Inspired by Dylan Thomas’s radio play, Stan Tracey’s Jazz Suite is recognised as a classic. In the first half, extracts from Thomas’s play will be read, with a duet from Stan Tracey and Bobby Wellins. The second half will feature the Suite in its entirety.

Using original film footage and backed by his fabulous 5 piece band, Barry Steele will bring the life and character of Roy Orbison back to the stage, featuring classic hits from the ‘60s to the late ‘80s. With the sounds of The Shadows, Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis and a special guest tribute to Johnny Cash.

Marie, a sad little girl, is given a Nutcracker doll as a present on Christmas Eve, which turns into a prince and the magic starts. Featuring a timeless score from Tchaikovsky, The Nutcracker is a certified Russian classic, full of evocative music and beautiful dance.

DIRECTED BY DON WARRINGTON ITV’s top comedy of all time, Rising Damp, comes to the stage in a brand-new production from the producers of the stage versions of dinnerladies and Birds Of A Feather. A northern town is home to Rigsby, landlord of the seediest boarding house in England. His unlucky tenants include Miss Jones, an administrator, Alan, a medical student and Philip, a town and country planning student. Alan and Philip are the focus of Rigsby’s many prejudices, at the expense of his dignity and standing in the eyes of Miss Jones, with whom he is pathetically in love.

With a song in his heart, a smile on his lips and a sprinkling of Christmas magic, Emilio transforms his dowdy dusty shop into a wondrous chocolate emporium. Music, magic and mischief abound in this delightful play.

The Carnival Parade leaves Peartree Junior School on Saturday at 1pm arriving in the Market Place at 3pm for activities until 6pm. On Sunday the action moves to Osmaston Park from 12 noon onwards.
