ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, KEYNSHAM REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY SERVICE SUNDAY 8th NOVEMBER 2026 at 9.30 am WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION: Rev’d Aidan Watson We look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are seen are transient but the things that are unseen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4: 18)
Hymn 1. Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation; O my soul, praise him, for he is thy health and salvation: all ye who hear, now to his temple draw near, joining in glad adoration. 2
3
4 Praise to the Lord, who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth shieldeth thee gently from harm, or when fainting sustaineth: hast thou not seen how thy heart’s wishes have been granted in what he ordaineth?
Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee; surely his goodness and mercy shall daily attend thee; ponder anew what the Almighty can do, if to the end he befriend thee. Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore him! All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before him! Let the Amen sound from his people again: gladly for ay we adore him.

They Shall Grow Not Old – RBL The Last Post Two Minutes Silence Kohima Epitaph – RBL Reveille Prayer Almighty and eternal God, from whose love in Christ we cannot be parted, either by death or life; hear our prayers and thanksgiving for all whom we remember this day; fulfil in them the purpose of your love; and bring us all, with them, to your eternal joy, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Hymn 1. O Valiant hearts, who to your glory came Through dust of conflict and through battle flame; Tranquil you lie, your knightly virtue proved Your memory hallowed in the land you loved.
2. O risen Lord, O Shepherd of our dead, Whose cross has bought them and whose staff has led, In glorious hope their proud and sorrowing land Commits her children to thy gracious hand.
ACT OF PENITENCE Minister
Let us worship almighty God, who made nothing evil but all things for good; who loves us still, though we have disobeyed his love, who has given his Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us and to save us from sin and death; who has promised his life-giving Spirit to all who believe in Him.
Please kneel
Minister
Let us therefore confess to God the sins and shortcomings of the world; its pride, its selfishness, its greed, its evil divisions and hatreds. Let us confess our share in what is wrong; and our failure to seek and establish that peace which God wills for his children, our blindness to the needs of others, our casual excuses; our prejudices, our callousness and all our acts of faithlessness and neglect.
All Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed; we have not loved you with all our heart, we have not loved our neighbour as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been. Help us to amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk with you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Minister Almighty God have mercy upon us, pardon and deliver us from all our sins, confirm and strengthen us in all goodness, and keep us in life eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Please sit Bible Reading: Psalm 46 Read by Cllr Andy Wait, Chair of Keynsham Town Council
Hymn 1. Make me a channel of your peace where there is hatred, let me bring your love. Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord, and where there’s doubt, true faith in you.
Refrain O master grant that I may never seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood, as to understand, to be loved, as to love with all my soul.
2. Make me a channel of your peace. Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope. Where there is darkness, only light, and where there’s sadness, ever joy.
3.. Make me a channel of your peace. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, in giving of ourselves that we receive, and in dying that we’re born to eternal life. (There is no refrain after verse 3)
Please sit Bible Reading: John chapter 15 verses 9-17 Read by Capt. George Harrill, 243 Medical Regiment THE SERMON by Rev’d. Aidan Watson, Team Rector of Keynsham Parish Hymn 1. I heard the voice of Jesus say, ‘Come unto me and rest; lay down, thou weary one, lay down thy head upon my breast.’ I came to Jesus as I was, so weary, worn and sad; I found in him a resting-place, and he has made me glad.
3. I heard the voice of Jesus say, ‘I am this dark world’s light; look unto me, thy morn shall rise, and all thy day be bright.’ I looked to Jesus, and I found in him my star, my sun; and in that light of life I’ll walk till trav’lling days are done.
2. I heard the voice of Jesus say, ‘Behold, I freely give the living water, thirsty one; stoop down and drink and live’ I came to Jesus, and I drank of that life-giving stream; my thirst was quenched, my soul revived, and now I live in him.
Please sit or kneel The Intercessions: Rev’d Aidan Watson Concluding with the Lord’s Prayer: Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen
ACT OF COMMITMENT Please stand
Minister
Let us pledge ourselves anew to the service of God and our fellow human beings: that we may help, encourage and comfort others, support the needy and work for the peace and welfare of nations.
All Lord God our Father, we pledge ourselves to serve you, and all humankind in the cause of peace, for the relief of want and suffering, and for the praise of your name. Guide us by your Spirit, give us wisdom, give us courage, give us hope: and keep us faithful, now and always. Amen. Hymn (collection will be taken during the Hymn in aid of RBL/The Poppy Appeal) 1. Eternal Father strong to save whose arm hath bound the restless wave, who bid’st the mighty ocean deep, its own appointed limits keep; O hear us when we cry to thee, for those in peril on the sea.
3. O Holy Spirit, Lord of grace who fills with strength the human race; inspire mankind to know the right, guide all who dare the eagle’s flight; and underneath thy wings of care guard all from peril in the air.
2. O Christ, the Universal Lord, who suffered death by nails and sword, from all assault of deadly foe sustain thy soldiers where they go; and evermore hold in thy hand all those in peril on the land.
4. O Trinity of love and power! our brethren shield in danger’s hour; from rock and tempest, fire and foe, protect them wheresoe’er they go; thus evermore shall rise to thee, praise from the air, the land and sea.
The National Anthem God save our gracious King, Long live our noble King, God save the King! Send him victorious, happy and glorious, long to reign over us: God save the King!

Be brave; keep hold of what is good; never pay back wrong with wrong, encourage the fainthearted; support the weak and distressed; give due honour to everyone; be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks whatever happens, for this is what God in Christ wills for you, and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be upon you and remain with you always.
